I hope you all had the opportunity to visit the NT s first Motorcycle Extravaganza. Foskey pavilion was packed with 160 motorcycles from 2007 to A great wet season event. It was with displeasure we had to take the unforeseeable step and cancel the Quiz Night for the 1 st time ever. Many people were quite disappointed at your committees decision on this as they said we were going to be there. Well I am sorry but if bookings cannot be made within a reasonable time frame rather than 3 or 4 days prior to the event, we are sorry for your lethargy. Hopefully next year responses will be much earlier as we would like for all events to guarantee they will happen. The next event is the run to the Berry Springs tavern and unfortunately I cannot make it as I will have picked up my car from Auto Transformers and have it on display at the Ol Skool Show n Shine in Adelaide. The car will be back in Darwin the following week. Any volunteers to drive it to Alice Springs for the Red CentreNats as I cannot drive 2 cars? Check the calendar in this edition as there is plenty happening to keep everyone occupied in the coming months. The Friday night chrome bumper cruises still attract a huge number of cars and every time there is new and interesting vehicles turning up. Please make the effort to enjoy the experience with some great like minded people. Happy Motoring John Palamountain The amendments, amongst other things, focus on conditionally registered vehicles and what happens in relation to a person s access to benefits or compensation if driving or travelling in a conditionally registered vehicle. The Northern Territory Motoring Council has been advised that vehicles registered under the Club Registration Scheme are conditionally registered vehicles. The amendments to the MACA clearly affect the drivers of vehicles registered under the Club Registration Scheme who do not drive in accordance with the conditions upon which club registration has been approved by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. If you have a vehicle registered under the Club Registration Scheme and you choose to drive it otherwise that in accordance with the conditions of registration and have an accident, you risk being excluded from eligibility for compensation. That includes compliance with the log book requirements. The compensation scheme, quite unequivocally, does not extend to club registered vehicles participating in motor sport events, whether formally organised or not. If you want to participate in a motor sport event in your club registered vehicle, you should arrange alternative insurance coverage for personal injury equivalent to the MACA scheme. Officers of the Department of Transport have been photographing vehicles bearing club registration plates where seen at unusual times and places. Owners of these vehicles, and the clubs to which they belong, may be called upon to provide information supporting the use of the vehicle at the time and/or place. There will be a new R42 form available next month from the Department of Transport website. The object of the new form is to permit people with club registration to complete registration transactions on line. The new form has been assigned the identification number R42A. It will seek information not previously required in the old R42. To those members who have not kept their log books up to date; had them audited; or have not attended any club events during the vehicles registration period, don t get upset when the club does not support your application to re-register your vehicle under the club registration scheme. 3 Get in quick for the early bird specials. I have just completed my entry for the Red Centre Nats, I will be driving my HZ down for the event. The weather in Alice during September is usually quite nice and perfect for camping so that s the way I am going to go. I haven t booked accommodation yet but I was thinking of the Big4Macdonald range park, it is close to Blatherskite park and the drags. Julie and Alan Stalker have owned a 1972 XU1 since 1975, which we fully restored to original condition in Apart from being actively involved with the Classic Holden Car Club in the N.T. for over 10 years, we have a personal motivation for raising funds for The Leukaemia Foundation. Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer in October It has been a "journey" for Julie (as well as myself) over the last year. We know what it is like to undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment as well as all the side effects that come with it. The positive news is that Julie is currently in remission. It is for this reason that we want to help others to achieve that same positive result. You can help us make a difference by donating to the Leukaemia Foundation who fund free services to support Australian blood cancer patients. 4 Quite a few members know Gadget already (in fact his Dad used to be a member of the club) but I d like to share this. Located in Darwin River, just down from the Litchfield pub is Gadgets place, a mecca for all Holden Lovers. ABC Radios Pop up segment was held at the Humpty Doo Tavern in early February and the they contacted Kerry Kyriacou to organise some cars for the event at the last moment. With around 500 cars up for wrecking there are at least 100 classic Holden s on his block. Complete cars range from an EH right up to early and late model Commodores. He also has a shed full of grills and bright work. Word soon got out and there was a small gathering including Renee Elliott, Damon Wagland, Ian & Pam Campbell, Grumpy and of course Kerry He also has an original HK 186S Monaro for sale, it will need a full resto but comes with all the trim and bright work as well as a 350 chev T400 and a 9 with axles to suit holden rims. Give him a buzz for that hard to find part I missed the interviews and talk back on the radio but I understand everyone had a ball. Especially the pub locals CHCC News March

5 Berry Springs run, It s the simple runs that I like best, a phone call to the local pub, get the message out there and they will come.. (if it s dry that is..) Taking off from Coolalinga it was a quick cruise down the Stuart Hwy and onto Cox Peninsular drive to the Berry Springs tavern. It s always a worry trying to organise a run in the wet season, and this was no different. After a blistering week of heat we were all watching as cyclone Nathan was looming towards us. Thankfully it was slow getting here and just hit the remote communities in the gulf that day. Rumours have it that the Tavern put on a sensational feed, and they didn t disappoint. Incredible meals and really quick service, the guys really know what they were doing. The club had over 60 hungry mouths to feed and there were plenty of other patrons as well. The day started nice cool and overcast and the line up at United Coolalinga was amazing, such a nice assortment of cars, and few new ones as well. Many thanks to all those who RSVP d by . It made it so much easier to alert the pub on numbers. It started at a guestimate of around 30, then after checking the responses I was able to book in 46, then we ended up with over 60. A great turn out that goes to show that It s the members that make the club what it is. CHCC News March
