Stakeholder Meeting - March 9, 8:30 Maine Clean Communities will hold its next Stakeholder Meeting on Wednesday, March 9 at 8:30 a.m. at the Greater Portland Council of Governments (68 Marginal Way, Portland). The purpose of these meetings is to network, share information on relevant events, funding opportunities and legislation and provide a forum for input on the activities and direction of the Coalition. EcoDriving - a set of simple driving and maintenance practices - is a low-cost means of saving fuel and reducing emissions. 3 Maine Standard Biofuels Update Maine Standard Biofuels recently issued a newsletter reviewing its progress in To read the full newsletter, click here. Some additional recent highlights: Maine Standard Biofuels has signed up 150 restaurants to recycle their waste cooking oil. All the grease collected is recycled into biodiesel that stays here in Maine. Maine Clean Communities Annual Survey Underway In 2009, alternative fuels, hybrids, idling policies and other petroleum reduction efforts reduced Maine's dependence on gasoline and diesel by over 1.2 million gallons (gasoline gallon equivalent or GGE). These same efforts reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by nearly 9,000 tons. The 2010 Annual Survey is underway. If you know of new alternative fuel stations, businesses switching to alternative fuels, or new petroleum reduction efforts, please share them with us! If your organization has not yet filled out a 2010 survey, it's better late than never! Please click here to download the survey. The information retrieved from these surveys is used to track our progress here in Maine, to ensure that the Maine Clean Communities Coalition continues to receive State and Federal funding, and to gather success stories that we will help publicize, so that organizations at the head of the curve receive the recognition they deserve. 4 2009 Maine Petroleum Reduction in Gasoline Gallon Equivalents Upcoming Natural Gas Vehicle Institute Classes April 12-15, 2011 in East Brunswick, NJ Driver & Mechanic Safety Training for CNG Powered Vehicles This course covers information about key factors vital to insuring safe natural gas vehicle (NGV) fleet operation. The training will deliver all the information necessary to insure that the NGV fleet is driven, fueled and maintained to meet or exceed current safety standards. CNG Fuel System Inspector Training This two- day course focuses on teaching the proper techniques for inspecting on- board compressed natural gas fueling systems. NHTSA states that onboard vehicle CNG fuel storage cylinders, manufactured after March of 1995, should be visually inspected every three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. You will learn the proper methods to use to insure vehicle fuel storage safety and integrity. The training includes hands- on inspection of vehicle fuel cylinders. CNG Fueling Stations: A Project Manager's Guide This course provides comprehensive training for project managers on the most up- to- date methods and practices for sizing, designing, specifying, permitting and constructing a CNG fueling station. 4/5

5 National Alternative Fuels and Training Consortium at SMCC July 27, 28 and 29 The National Alternative Fuels and Training Consortium has selected Southern Maine Community College as the host facility for the Annual Conference and Business Meeting. The focus for this year's training will be the all new Chevrolet Volt plug- in Hybrid. SMCC will host approximately 20 instructors from around the nation. Maine C lean C ommunities is a locally based government/industry partnership, coordinated by the US Department of Energy and administered by the Greater Portland C ouncil of Governments to expand the use of alternatives to gasoline and diesel fuel, and reduce the use of petroleum for transportation.
