Life Cycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Biofuels Source: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Renewable Fuel Standard Program (RFS2) Regulatory Impact Analysis Notes: Emissions data is based on analysis by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, for the Renewable Fuel Standard Program (RFS2). This chart compares life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of various biofuels with those of petroleum fuels they replace, as assessed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The GHG emissions benefit of ethanol varies according to the feedstock used to produce it, with the greatest benefit achieved by ethanol produced from switchgrass. The negative emissions of switchgrass indicate a net sequestration of carbon into the soil and biomass. Life cycle emissions levels of biodiesel also vary according to feedstock, with biodiesel produced from waste grease resulting in a greater GHG emissions benefit than emissions from biodiesel produced from soybean biodiesel. 20 Cost of Domestically Produced Food This chart shows the composition of the cost that consumers paid for domestically produced foods in The farm value (commodity) of the food has generally been decreasing and now commands about 10% of the total consumer expenditure. This highlights the fact that an increase in corn or soy prices due to higher biofuels demand would have a muted effect on the total cost of food. Conversely, the share of cost attributable to foods services, such as restaurants and caterers, has generally been increasing and now commands nearly 35% of the food cost. 32 Math and Market Share for CNG 1 Waste vehicle averages 9,250 gallons of diesel fuel a year. 9,250 / 7.19 = 1,287 Mcf. 1 House (in SE) uses +/- 55 Mcf of CNG per year 1,287 Mcf / 55 Mcf = 23.4 houses CNG usage 10 waste trucks = 234 houses!
