1 Aluminum Conduct Reinfced Trapezoidal Wire CME Wire and Cable offers shaped wire compact concentriclay-stranded aluminum conduct steel reinfced conducts with equal area equal diameter designs, as compared to standard ACSR conducts, and various steel ce coatings to address your application requirements f transmission and distribution projects. Construction, a non-homogenous conduct, is a trapezoidal shaped wire compact concentriclay-stranded conduct made from aluminum 1350-H19 (extra hard) wires and round, coated steel ce wire(s). Several combinations of aluminum and steel strands and layers are possible to design conducts with equal area equal diameter as compared to ACSR conducts f overhead lines. Commonly used sizes are included here. Class A zinc coating (/GA2) is usually adequate f dinary environments to protect the steel ce wires from crosion. Specifications conducts are manufactured in accdance with the ASTM specification B779. Other ASTM referenced specifications include B230, B498, B500, B 606, B802, B803, B957 and B958. Features The favable strength/weight ratio, from the light weight and good conductivity of aluminum with the high tensile strength of steel, makes ACSR conducts a preferred choice f overhead power transmission and distribution projects. strands provide mechanical reinfcement to handle higher line tensions, reduce sag, and longer span lengths. ACSR conducts are recognized f their dependable perfmance under adverse weather conditions. Use of with the equal area design allows equal ampacity in a conduct with approximately 10% smaller diameter over a standard ACSR with same area. This smaller diameter of equal area ACSR/ TW conducts helps reduce the effects of ice and wind loading on the conduct. Use of with equal diameter design provides a conduct in which the aluminum area is increased by approximately 20% 25% over a standard ACSR with same diameter. This increase in the cross-sectional area of the conduct reduces its ac resistance by about 15% 20% and thus, increases its current carrying capacity by about 10%. Options /GA2 is standard.
