6 ES 13 Foreord evelopmen of he Eas frican Sandards has been necessiaed by he need for harmonizing requiremens governing qualiy of producs and services in he Eas frican Couniy. I is envisaged ha hrough harmonized sandardizaion, rade barriers ha are encounered hen goods and services are exchanged ihin he Couniy ill be removed. In order o achieve his objecive, he Couniy esablished an Eas frican Sandards Coiee mandaed o develop and issue Eas frican Sandards. he Coiee is composed of represenaives of he Naional Sandards Bodies in Parner Saes, ogeher ih he represenaives from he privae secors and consumer organizaions. raf Eas frican Sandards are circulaed o sakeholders hrough he Naional Sandards Bodies in he Parner Saes. he coens received are discussed and incorporaed before finalizaion of sandards, in accordance ih he procedures of he Couniy. Eas frican Sandards are subjec o revie, o keep pace ih echnological advances. Scope his Eas frica raf Sandard specifies he dimensions and secional properies of cold rolled seel secions of hickness up o 8 for use in srucural engineering purposes. he secions are lised in ables o. 2. For example, an 'I' secion can be made from o channels backoback, a ube from o inardly lipped channels lipolip, a '" from o angles, ec. Mehods of joining secions are specified in ISO 137. Secion properies of compound secions may be calculaed using he properies of simple secions. Compound secions shall be flush a maching joins ihin.
