1 Chapter 15 EISSIONS TEST PROCEDURE FOR A VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH A PERIODICALLY REGENERATING SYSTE 1. INTRODUCTION This chapter efines the specific provions regaring type-approval of a vehicle equippe with a perioically regenerating system as efine in paragraph DEFINITIONS "Perioically regenerating system" means an anti-pollution evice (e.g. catalytic converter, particulate trap) that requires a perioical regeneration process in less than 4,000 km of normal vehicle operation. During cycles where regeneration occurs, emison stanars can be exceee. If a regeneration of an anti-pollution evice occurs at least once per Type I test an that has alreay regenerate at least once uring vehicle preparation cycle, it will be conere as a continuously regenerating system which oes not require a special test proceure. This chapter oes not apply to continuously regenerating systems. At the request of the manufacturer, the test proceure specific to perioically regenerating systems will not apply to a regenerative evice if the manufacturer provies ata to the type approval authority that, uring cycles where regeneration occurs, emisons remain below the stanars given in applicable Gazette Notification applie for the concerne vehicle category after agreement of the test agency. 2. SCOPE AND EXTENSION OF THE TYPE APPROVAL 2.1. Vehicle family groups equippe with perioically regenerating system The proceure applies to vehicles equippe with a perioically regenerating system as efine in paragraph For the purpose of this annex vehicle family groups may be establishe. Accoringly, those vehicle types with regenerative systems, whose parameters escribe below are ientical, or within the state tolerances, shall be conere to belong to the same family with respect to measurements specific to the efine perioically regenerating systems Ientical parameters are: Engine: orth / CVR / TAP-115/116 (Issue 4) Page 1033

TEST PROCEDURE The vehicle may be equippe with a switch capable of preventing or permitting the regeneration process provie that this operation has no effect on original engine calibration. This switch shall be permitte only for the purpose of preventing regeneration uring loaing of the regeneration system an uring the pre-conitioning cycles. However, it shall not be use uring the measurement of emisons uring the regeneration phase; rather the emison test shall be carrie out with the unchange Original Equipment anufacturer's (OE) control unit Exhaust emison measurement between two cycles where regenerative phases occur Average emisons between regeneration phases an uring loaing of the regenerative evice shall be etermine from the arithmetic mean of several approximately equiistant (if more than 2) Type I operating cycles or equivalent engine test bench cycles. As an alternative the manufacturer may provie ata to show that the emisons remain constant (+/-15 per cent) between regeneration phases. In this case, the emisons measure uring the regular Type I test may be use. In any other case emisons measurement for at least two Type I operating cycles or equivalent engine test bench cycles must be complete: one immeiately after regeneration (before new loaing) an one as close as posble prior to a regeneration phase. These cycles may be run continuously (i.e. without the nee to switch the engine off between cycles). After any number of complete cycles, the vehicle may be remove from the chass ynamometer, an the test continue at a later time The number of cycles (D) between two cycles where regeneration phases occur, the number of cycles over which emisons measurements are mae (n), an each emisons measurement ( j ) shall be reporte in Chapter 2, items 7.1 to 7.4 or to as applicable easurement of emisons uring regeneration Preparation of the vehicle, if require, for the emisons test uring a regeneration phase, may be complete ung the preparation cycles in paragraph 5.3. of chapter 3 or equivalent engine test bench cycles, epening on the loaing proceure chosen in paragraph above The test an vehicle conitions for the Type I test escribe in chapter 3 apply before the first vali emison test is carrie out Regeneration must not occur uring the preparation of the vehicle. This may be ensure by one of the following methos: A "ummy" regenerating system or partial system may be fitte for the preconitioning cycles Any other metho agree between the manufacturer an the test agency A col-start exhaust emison test incluing a regeneration process shall be performe accoring to the Type I operating cycle, or equivalent engine test bench cycle. If the emisons tests between two cycles where regeneration phases occur are carrie out on an engine test bench, the emisons test incluing a regeneration phase shall also be carrie out on an engine test bench If the regeneration process requires more than one operating cycle, subsequent test cycle(s) shall be riven immeiately, without switching the engine off, until complete regeneration has been achieve (each cycle shall be complete). The time necessary to set up a new test shoul be as short as posble (e.g. particular matter filter change).
