CONTENTS SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS... 1 GENERAL... 1,2 ACCESSORIES LIST... 2 INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION ECONOMIZER CONTROL MODES... 6 OPERATION SEQUENCE OF OPERATION PERFORMANCE DATA TROUBLESHOOTING WIRING DIAGRAMS SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS Installaton and servcng of ar-condtonng equpment can be hazardous due to system pressure and electrcal components. Only traned and qualfed se_wce personnel should nstall, repar, or smwce ar-condtonng equpment. Untraned personnel can perform the basc mantenance functons of replacng flters. All other operatons should be performed by traned selwce personnel. When workng on ar-condtonng equpment, obsmwe precautons n the lterature, tags, and labels attached to the unt, and other safety precautons that may apply. Recognze safety nformaton. Ths s the safety-alert symbol... "-['\. When you see ths symbol on the unt and n nstructons or manuals, be alert to the potental for personal nury. Understand these sgnal words; DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION. These words are used wth the safety-alert symbol. DANGER dentfes the most serous hazards whch wll result n severe personal njury or death. WARNING sgnfes hazards whch could result n personal njury or death. CAUTION s used to dentfy unsafe practces whch may result n mnor personal njury or product and property damage. NOTE s used to hghlght suggestons whch wll result n enhanced nstallaton, relablty, or operaton. Follow all safety codes. Wear safety glasses, protectve clothng, and work gloves. Use quenchng cloth for brazng operatons. Have a fre extngusher avalable. Read these nstructons thoroughly and follow all warnngs or cautons ncluded n lterature and attached to the unt. Consult local buldng codes and current edtons of the Natonal Electrcal Code (NEC) NFPA 70. In Canada, refer to current edtons of the Canadan electrcal code CSA Instructons UNIT PERFORMANCE AND COMPONENT HAZARD Falure to follow ths cauton may result n unt damage. For coolng operaton, the recommended arflow s 350 to 450 cfm for each 12,000 Btuh of rated coolng capacty. For heatng operaton, the arflow must produce a temperature rse that falls wthn the range stamped on the unt ratng plate. GENERAL Economzers are recommended for use wth only commercal packaged products that have X13 motors. The Economzer system utlzes the latest technology avalable for ntegratng the use of free coolng wth mechancal coolng for rooftop unts. The sold state control system optmzes energy consumpton, zone comfort, and equpment cyclng by operatng the compressors when the outdoor-ar temperature s too warm, ntegratng the compressor wth outdoor ar when fee coolng s avalable, and lockng out the compressor when outdoor-ar temperature s too cold. Demand ventlaton s supported. The Economzer system utlzes gear-drve technology wth a drectmount sprng return actuator that wll close upon loss of power. The Economzer system comes standard wth an outdoor ar temperature sensor, a supply ar temperature sensor, and low temperature compressor lockout swtch. Indoor enthalpy sensors, outdoor enthalpy sensors and CO2sensors are avalable for feld nstallaton. Barometrc relef dampers provde natural buldng pressurzaton control. 6 NOTE: The economzer control settngs and the flters are accessble through the flter access door. 17. Through the flter access door, adjust the settngs on the economzer controller. Revew the settngs n the Operaton secton: (1) The standard economzer controller has a factory settng of 63 F (17 C) for the outdoor ar temperature changeover and 55 F (12.8 C) for the supply ar (mxed ar) temperature sensor. The outdoor ar temperature changeover settng s adjusted on the sensor by settng the dp swtches on the sensor. See Fg. 14. TheABCD potentometer on the economzer controller should be set to the "D" poston. (2) The low ambent compressor lockout swtch settng s fxed at 42 F (5.6 C). (3) The mnmum poston for the outdoor ar damper can be confgured at the controller. When not usng a CO 2sensor, the DCV Max potentometer must be completely closed (CCW) for the Mnmum Poston potentometer to functon correctly. (4) Settngs for the optonal outdoor enthalpy sensor, ndoor enthalpy sensor, and CO2sensor can also be confgured at the controller. 18. Replace the flter access panel. Screw n place. 19. Install all economzer accessores then power HVAC unt and test cycle economzer. Economzer Standard Sensors CONFIGURATION OUTDOOR AIR TEMPERATURE (()AT) SENSO_ The outdoor ar temperature sensor (HH57AC080) s a 10 to 20mA devce used to measure the outdoor-ar temperature. The outdoor-ar temperature s used to determne when the Economzer can be used for fee coolng. The operatng range of temperature measurement s 40 to 100 F (4.40 to C). The sensor has 8 selectable temperature changeover setponts. The temperature changeover s set usng the 3 dp swtches on the sensor. The ABCD potentometer on the controller should be set to the "D" poston. See Fg.14. SUPPLY AIR TEMPERATURE (SAT) SENSOR The supply ar temperature sensor s a 3 KD, thermstor located at the nlet of the ndoor fan. See Fg. 8 and 9. Ths sensor s feld nstalled. The operatng range of temperature measurement s 0 to 1580 F (-17.8 to 70 C). See Table 4 - Supply Ar Sensor Temperature Resstance Values TEMPERATURE (F) CELSIUS (C) RESISTANCE (ohms) , , , , , , , , , , I Table 4 for sensor temperature/resstance values. The temperature sensor looks lke an eyelet termnal wth wres runnng to t. The sensor s located n the "crmp end" and s sealed fom mosture. LOW TEMPERATURE COMPRESSOR LOCKOUT SWITCH The Economzer s equpped wth a low ambent temperature lockout swtch located n the outdoor arstream whch s used to lock out the compressors below a 420F (5.60 C) ambent temperature. Economzer Control Modes Determne the Economzer control mode before set up of the control. Some modes of operaton may requre dfferent sensors. Refer to Table 2. The Economzer s suppled fom the facto_t wth a supply ar temperature sensor, a low temperature compressor lockout swtch, and an outdoor ar temperature sensor. Ths allows for operaton of the Economzer wth outdoor ar &y bulb changeover control. Addtonal accessores can be added to allow for dfferent types of changeover control and operaton of the Economzer and unt. OUTDOOR DRY BULB CHANGEOVE_ The standard controller s shpped fom the factory confgured for outdoor dry bulb changeover control. The outdoor ar and supply ar temperature sensors are ncluded as standard. For ths control mode, the outdoor tenaperature s compared to a selectable set pont on the sensor. See Fg. 14. If the outdoorar temperature s above the set pont, the Economzer wll adjust the outdoor ar dampers to mnmum poston. If the outdoor-ar temperature s below the set pont, the poston of the outdoor-ar dampers wll be controlled to provde free coolng usng outdoor ar. When n ths mode, the LED next to the free coolng set pont potentometer wll be on. The changeover temperature set pont s set usng the swtches on the sensor. See Fg. 14 for the correspondng temperature changeover values. OUTDOOR ENTHALPY CHANGEOVE_For enthalpy control, accessory enthalpy sensor (part number HH57AC078) s requred. The outdoor enthalpy changeover set pont s set wth the outdoor enthalpy set pont potentometer on the Economzer controller. The set ponts are A, B, C, and D. See Fg. 16. The factory-nstalled 620-ohm jumper must be n place across termnals SR and SR+ on the Economzer controller. DIFFERENTIAL ENTHALPY CONTROL For dfferental enthalpy control, the Economzer controller uses two enthalpy sensors (HH57AC078 and CRENTDIF004A00), one n the outsde ar and one n the return arstream. The Economzer controller compares the outdoor ar enthalpy to the return ar enthalpy to determne Economzer use. The controller selects the lower enthalpy ar (return or outdoor) for coolng. For example, when the outdoor ar has a lower enthalpy than the return ar and s below the set pont, the Economzer opens to brng n outdoor ar for flee coolng. Replace the standard outsde ar &y bulb temperature sensor wth the accessory enthalpy sensor n the same mountng locaton. Mount the return ar enthalpy sensor n the return ar duct. See Fg. 16. When usng ths mode of changeover control, turn the enthalpy set pont potentometer fully clockwse to the D settng. INDOOR AIR QUALITY (IAQ) SENSOR INPUT The IAQ nput can be used for demand control ventlaton control based on the level of CO 2 measured n the space or return ar duct. Mount the accessory IAQ sensor accordng to manufacturer specfcatons. The IAQ sensor should be wred to the AQ and AQ 1 termnals of the controller. Adjust the DCV potentometers to correspond to the DCV voltage output of the ndoor ar qualty sensor at the user-determned set pont. See Fg. 19. If a separate feld-suppled transformer s used to power the IAQ sensor, the sensor must not be grounded or the Economzer control board wll be damaged.

9 EXHAUST SET POINT ADJUSTMENT_he exhaust set pont wll determne when the exhaust fan runs based on damper poston (f power exhaust s nstalled). The set pont s modfed wth the Exhaust Fan Set Pont (EXH SET) potentometer. The set pont represents the damper poston above whch the exhaust fans wll be turned on. When there s a call for exhaust, the Economzer controller provdes a 45 ± 15 second delay before exhaust tan actvaton to allow the dampers to open. Ths delay allows the damper to reach the approprate poston to avod unnecessary tan overload. MINIMUM POSITION CONTROL There s a mnmum damper poston potentometer on the Economzer controller. See Fg. 14. The mnmum damper poston mantans the mnmum arflow nto the buldng durng the occuped perod. When usng demand ventlaton, the mnmum damper poston represents the mnmum ventlaton poston for VOC (volatle organc compound) ventlaton requrements. The maxmum demand ventlaton poston s used for fully occuped ventlaton. When demand ventlaton control s not beng used, the mnmum poston potentometer should be used to set the occuped ventlaton poston. The DCV Max potentometer must be tully closed (CCW) to allow the Mnmum Poston potentometer to functon correctly. Adjust the mnmum poston potentometer to allow the mnmum amount of outdoor ar, as requred by local codes, to enter the buldng. Make mnmum poston adjustments wth at least 10 F (5.5 C) temperature dfference between the outdoor and return-ar temperatures. To determne the mnmum poston settng, perform the followng procedure: 1. Calculate the approprate mxed ar temperature usng the followng formula: (To x OA/100) + (TR x RA/100) TO Outdoor-Ar Temperature OA Percent of OutdoorAr TR Return-Ar Temperature RA Percent of Return Ar TM Mxed-Ar Temperature TM As an example, f local codes requre 10% outdoor ar durng occuped condtons, outdoor-ar temperature s 60 F (15.6 C), and return-ar temperature s 75 F (23.9 C). (60 x.10) + (75 x.90) 73.5 F (23.1 C) 2. Dsconnect the supply ar sensor from termnals T and T1. 3. Ensure that the Ihctory-nstalled jumper s n place across termnals P and P 1. If remote damper postonng s beng used, make sure that the termnals are wred accordng to Fg. 9 and that the mnmum poston potentometer s turned fully clockwse. 4. Connect 24 vac across termnals TR and TR1. 5. Carefully adjust the mnmum poston potentometer untl the measured mxed-ar temperature matches the calculated value. 6. Reconnect the supply ar sensor to termnals T and T1. Remote control of the Economzer damper s desrable when requrng addtonal temporary ventlaton. If a feld-suppled remote potentometer (Honeywell part number $963B 1128) s wred to the Economzer controller, the mnmum poston of the damper can be controlled from a remote locaton. To control the mnmum damper poston remotely, remove the Ihctory-nstalled jumper on the P and P 1 termnals on the Economzer controller. Wre the feld-suppled potentometer to the P and P1 termnals on the Economzer controller. DAMPER MOVEMENT Damper movement from full open to full closed (or vce versa) takes 2 1/2 mnutes. THEPdMOSTATS The Economzes control works wth conventonal thermostats that have a Y1 (cool stage 1), Y2 (cool stage 2), W1 (heat stage 1), W2 (heat stage 2), and G (tan). The Economzer control does not support space temperature sensors. Connectons are made at the thermostat termnal connecton board located n the man control box. OCCUPANCY CONTROL The factory default confguraton for the Economzes control s occuped mode. Occuped status s provded by the black jumper from termnal TR to termnal N. When unoccuped mode s desred, nstall a feld suppled tmeclock functon n place of the jumper between TR and N. When the tmeclock contacts are closed, the Economzer control wll be n occuped mode. When the tmeclock contacts are open (removng the 24-v sgnal from termnal N), the Economzer IV wll be n unoccuped mode. DEMAND CONTROLLED VENTILATION (DCV) When usng the Economzer for demand controlled ventlaton, there are some equpment selecton crtera whch should be consdered. When selectng the heat capacty and cool capacty of the equpment, the maxmum ventlaton rate must be evaluated for desgn condtons. The maxmum damper poston must be calculated to provde the desred fe sh ar. Typcally the maxmum ventlaton rate wll be about 5 to 10% more than the typcal cfm requred per person, usng normal outsde ar desgn crtera. An exponental antcpatory strategy should be taken wth the followng condtons: a zone wth a large area, vared occupancy, and equpment that cannot exceed the requred ventlaton rate at desgn condtons. Exceedng the requred ventlaton rate means the equpment can condton ar at a maxmum ventlaton rate that s greater than the requred ventlaton rate for maxmum occupancy. An exponentalantcpatory strategy wll cause the fresh ar suppled to ncrease as the room CO2 level ncreases even though the CO2 set pont has not been reached. By the tme the CO: level reaches the set pont, the damper wll be at maxmum ventlaton and should mantan the set pont. In order to have the CO: sensor control the economzer damper n ths manner, frst determne the damper voltage output for mnmum or base ventlaton. Base ventlaton s the ventlaton requred to remove contamnants durng unoccuped perods. The followng equaton may be used to determne the percent of outsde-ar enterng the buldng for a gven damper poston. For best results there should be at least a 10 F (5.5 C) dfference n outsde and return-ar temperatures. (To x OA/100) + (TR x RA/100) TM TO Outdoor-Ar Temperature OA Percent of Outdoor Ar TR Return-Ar Temperature RA Percent of Return Ar TM Mxed-Ar Temperature Once base ventlaton has been determned, set the mnmum damper poston potentometer to the correct poston. The same equaton can be used to determne the occuped or maxmum ventlaton rate to the buldng. For example, an output of 3.6 volts to the actuator provdes a base ventlaton rate of 5% and an output of 6.7 volts provdes the maxmum ventlaton rate of 20% (or base plus 15 cfm per person). Use Fg. 18 to determne the maxmum settng of the CO: sensor. For example, a 1100 ppm set pont relates to a 15 cfm per person desgn. Use the 1100 ppm curve on Fg. 18 to fnd the pont when the CO: sensor output wll be 6.7 volts. Lne up the pont on the graph wth the left sde of the chart to determne that the range confguraton for the CO: sensor should be 1800 ppm. The Economzer controller wll output the 6.7 volts from the CO: sensor to the actuator when the CO2concentraton n the space s at 1100 ppm.

When free coolng s avalable, the outdoor-ar damper s modulated by the Economzer control to provde a 50oto 55 F (10 to 12.8 C) supply-ar temperature nto the zone. As the supply-ar temperature fluctuates above 55 F (12.8 C) or below 500F (10 C), the dampers wll be modulated (open or close) to brng the supply-ar temperature back wthn the set ponts. For Economzer operaton, there must be a thermostat call for the lhn (G). Ths wll move the damper to ts mnmum poston durng the occuped mode. NOTE: The DCV Max potentometer must be completely closed (CCW) when not usng CO 2sensor. Above 50oF (10 C) supply-ar temperature, the dampers wll modulate fom 100% open to the mnmum open poston. From 50oF (10 C) to 45 F (7.2 C) supply-ar temperature, the dampers wll mantan at the mnmum open poston. Below 45 F (7.2 C), the dampers wll be completely shut. As the supply-ar temperature rses, the dampers wll come back open to the mnmum open poston once the supply-ar temperature rses to 48oF (8.90 C). If power exhaust s nstalled, as the outdoor-ar damper opens and closes, the power exhaust fans wll be energzed and deenergzed. If feld-nstalled accessory CO: sensors are connected to the Economzer control, a demand controlled ventlaton strategy wll begn to operate. As the CO 2level n the zone ncreases above the CO: set pont, the mnmum poston of the damper wll be ncreased proportonally. As the CO: level decreases because of the ncrease n fresh ar, the outdoorar damper wll be proportonally closed. Damper poston wll follow the hgher demand condton from DCV mode or free coolng mode. Damper movement from full closed to full open (or vce versa) wll take between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 mnutes. If free coolng can be used as determned from the approprate changeover command (dry bulb, enthalpy curve, or dfferental enthalpy), a call for coolng (Y1 closes at the thermostat) wll cause the control to modulate the dampers open to mantan the supply ar temperature set pont at 500 to 55 F (100 to 12.8 C). As the supply ar temperature &ops below the set pont range of 50o to 55 F (10 to 12.8 C), the control wll modulate the outdoor-ar dampers closed to mantan the proper supply-ar temperature.
