1 ISSN UDK 62 PROJEKTIRANJE I OBLIKOVANJE DVOSTRUKOG PROČISTAČA ULJA I GORIVA ZA UKLANJANJE MEHANIČKIH PRIMJESA DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN OF A DUAL OIL AND FUEL FILTER FOR THE REMOVAL OF MECHANICAL ADMIXTURES Božiar Hršak, Ante Čikić, Dino Kus Stručni članak Sažetak: Opisana je funkcija i namjena vostrukog pročistača ulja i goriva te proračun ebljine stjenke i na kućišta pročistača u zavarenoj izvebi za nazivni tlak PN 4,0MPa (40 bara). Primjenom reverznog inženjeringa, a na temelju postojeće 2D raioničke okumentacije u lijevanoj izvebi, izrađen je 3D moel vostrukog pročistača kao gotovog proizvoa, proveene su FEA analiza(finite Element Analysis) naprezanja za nazivni tlak PN 4 MPa (40 bara) u kućištu pročistača u programskom alatu SimulationXpress Analysis Wizar i analiza strujanja fluia (Flow Simulation) unutar kućišta pročistača i razvonika u programskom alatu FloXpress Analysis Wizar. Izrađena je potpuna 2D raionička okumentacija za izrau svih potrebnih ijelova vostrukog pročistača ulja i goriva. Ključne riječi: vostruki pročistač, filtarski element, gorivo, kućište, protok, razvoni ventil, tlak, ulje Professional paper Abstract: This paper escribes the function an purpose of a ual oil an fuel filter, as well as the thickness calculation of the housing wall an bottom in wele construction for the nominal pressure PN amounting to 4.0 MPa (40 bar). Using the reverse engineering an base on the existing 2D workshop ocumentation in cast construction, a 3D moel of the ual filter as a final prouct was mae. Furthermore, FEA stress analysis (Finite Element Analysis) for the nominal pressure PN amounting to 4 MPa (40 bar) in the filter housing was mae in the SimulationXpress Analysis Wizar software, while the flow simulation insie the filter housing an the valve was performe in the FloXpress Analysis Wizar software. Thereafter, complete 2D workshop ocumentation was mae for all require parts of the ual oil an fuel filter. INTRODUCTION Filters are evices that are installe in hyraulic systems in orer to remove unesire mechanical impurities from the working flui (petroleum an petroleum proucts, mineral, semi-synthetic an synthetic oil, all types of hyraulic oils, light, meium an heavy fuel). Impurities may evelop as the result of working flui oxiation, wearing of parts that are in contact with the flui or as prouction or assembly remnants (seal parts, burrs, slag or metal rops as resiues of the weling process) [1]. For the purpose of further evelopment an optimization of an existing prouct an by applying reverse engineering, the esign of a 3D moel of a ual oil an fuel filter is shown, as well as the calculation of the housing in wele construction base on the existing 2D ocumentation (in cast construction), prouct catalogues an assembly, operation an maintenance instructions. For esigning the 3D moel the SoliWorks software was selecte ue to high requirements set by the esign of the 3D moel, stress analyses an flui flow analysis. 2. DUAL OIL AND FUEL FILTER A ual oil an fuel filter consists of two housings with two filter elements (filter chambers) that are connecte by a irectional valve on two levels, so that each chamber may be operational separately (Figures 1 an 2). 2 Figure 2. Dual oil an fuel filter (back view) [1] A filter element (multi-chamber type, basket type etc.) is installe in the filter chamber. It consists of the loabearing structure an corrosion-resistant metal fabric or filter paper that retains particles larger than the nominal filtration fineness (Filter 3) [2]. Directional valve switching is carrie out without hyraulic impacts, attenuation an other flow isturbances that woul have an unfavorable influence on the system operation, as one sie is switche off at the same time as the other sie is switche on. In this way the filter oes not have to be switche off while cleaning or replacing a filter element. It suffices to turn the irectional valve an switch off that half of the filter that will be cleane or where a filter element will be replace. Therefore, ual filters are installe in systems that o not allow for interruptions or operation without constant filtration [1]. When the filter is use for viscous fluis, steam or electric heating is installe in it. The purpose of heating is to warm up the filter chamber before the operation starts. Upon request a magnetic particle retriever an ifferential pressure inicator are installe in the filter, which signalize that filter elements are clogge [2]. 3. CALCULATION OF THE THICKNESS OF FILTER HOUSING WALL AND BOTTOM The imensioning of filter housing wall an bottom in wele construction is carrie out for the nominal pressure PN 40 (4 MPa) using a stanar pipe with the external iameter D v = mm an pipe material Č Calculation of the thickness of filter housing wall The pipe wall thickness must not be lower than the value obtaine accoring to the following expression: [5] Figure 3. Filter elements [3] Dual filters are use at plants where meium flow must not be interrupte for the purpose of cleaning the basket or replacing a filter element. This allows for continual flow by using two separate chambers with an integral istributional valve which enables irect meium flow into one of the filter chambers (Figure 4). 3 3.2. Calculation of the thickness of filter housing bottom By using available avance moeling tools, a moel of filter housing was mae (Figure 7). DESIGN OF A 3D MODEL OF DUAL FILTER PARTS AND ASSEMBLY Figure 7. 3D moel of filter housing In the same way other parts of the ual filter (piston, knee connection, filter elements, hanle, irectional valve, irectional valve cap an filter housing cap) were moele. After the 3D moeling of all parts, they are assemble an renere in the Photo View 360 software (Figures 8 an 9). Base on the existing 2D ocumentation (cast construction), the 3D moeling proceure starts with moeling the cylinrical part of the housing an connection for the irectional valve. Finite Element Analysis FEA After the calculation an imensioning of the filter housing were carrie out for the nominal PN 4.0 MPa (40 bar) an a 3D moel was mae, a filter housing stress analysis was mae in the SimulationXpress Analysis Wizar software. The analysis results confirm that nominal stress rea accoring to scale (Figure 10) was lower than the allowe stress represente in 3.1 an 3.2, which amounts to σ = N/mm 2. Therefore, it may be conclue that the initial calculations for imensioning the housing wall an bottom are accurate, which is visually an analytically proven by the analysis carrie out in the SoliWorks Simulation software. For the upper (input) pipe the nominal pressure amounting to 4 MPa an the flow of m 3 /s were efine, while the lower (output) pipe was efine by the atmospheric pressure amounting to 0.1 MPa an the flow of 0 m 3 /s. after efining all require parameters, the flow simulation was carrie out. Figure 11 shows the flui flow with aitional graphical representations of the flow velocity in the filter housing. CONCLUSION By reesigning (reverse engineering) an reconstructing the housing of a ual oil an fuel filter (final prouct) base on the existing 2D workshop ocumentation (cast construction), the calculation of the filter housing wall an bottom was carrie out in wele construction for the nominal pressure PN 40 (4 MPa). A flexible computer 3D moel of the final prouct of optimal imensions an operating characteristics was mae. Furthermore, a complete workshop 2D ocumentation was esigne for the purpose of constructing all ual filter parts as a final prouct. The calculations, FEA an flow simulation in the filter housing point to the fact that the filter may epenably enure the given rive loa an assure a continual oil an fuel filtration process in prouction processes. 6.
