1 Technical Specification for 1800L Foam Tank Trailer Complete With FJM 100 S Monitor (Part No ) 1) Overview The Foam Trailer assembly consists of the following main components: a) 4 Wheel Trailer. b) 1800 Litre (400-Gallon) Foam Tank. c) Foam/Water Monitor. d) Four Way Inlet Manifold. For General Arrangement Details please refer to drawing number F6130 in Appendix-A1. Page 1 of 14

2 2) Details of Construction 4 Wheel Trailer i) Chassis. The Chassis is fabricated from 100mm x 50mm x 6mm thick Mild Steel Channel, conforming to EN Grade S275 (formally BS A). Chassis is a fully welded A Frame construction complete with 3mm thick mild steel standing area/deck plate. ii) Axle. The Axle is a Super-Ride Full Track Twin Axle Unit, which provides a better ride and increased stability when used over rough terrain compared to a standard Leaf Spring arrangement. The axle comes complete with 13 wheels and 185R 13x6 PLY tyres with a maximum tyre load of 765 Kg/tyre. The trailer comes complete with Galvanised Steel Twin Mudguards as standard. iii) Coupling, Brakes and Jockey Wheel. The Coupling is of a cast design and has a 2 (50mm) ball hitch with a load capacity of Kg. It is a hydraulically dampened overrun brake type with an auto reverse facility, which allows the trailer to be reversed without the necessity of the driver leaving the towing vehicle. Note: The ball hitch is standard, alternative hitches are available and should be specified at time of order as an optional extra. The auto-reverse system became mandatory on all new build trailers in April The design of the auto-reversing brakes is such that by reverse rotation of the trailers road wheels, the direction of the movement is mechanically sensed by the brakes, which in turn operate a CAM to pull the brake shoes clear of the brake drum. The coupling also consists of a spring energy store attached to the handbrake. Fitted as standard is a sprung ratchet handbrake, which operates the trailer brakes independently of the overrun coupling. When a trailer is parked facing up a hill, the natural tendency is for the weight of the trailer to push it backwards downs the hill; the brake senses the reverse movement and pulls the shoes from the drum. When the hand brake is applied it has a reserve of stored energy which pulls the brake lever further on, thus overriding the brakes desire to pull the shoes away from the drum. Also attached to the handbrake is a breakaway cable, which will automatically pull on the trailer brakes in the unlikely but dramatic event of the coupling becoming detached from the tow-ball. It should be noted that the breakaway cable is not heavy enough to continue to tow the trailer, but simply to apply the trailer brakes, warning the driver, and then breaking away from the tow vehicle. A heavy-duty Jockey Wheel with a load capacity of 3500 Kg is also supplied which is fully adjustable. Page 2 of 14

3 iv) Lighting. All lighting supplied conforms to EC regulations and consists of the following as standard: - Side Lights - Fog Lights - Stop (Brake) Lights - Indicator Lights Twin Red Warning Reflector Triangles are also supplied as standard. v) Prop-Stands (Out-Rigger Supports). Industrial heavy-duty fully retractable prop stands, complete with jacking pads, and are supplied as standard located on each corner providing additional stability in all conditions. vi) Paint Finish Two Pack Epoxy Grey 750 primer under-coat with a semi-gloss Signal Red topcoat. Note: Colours supplied are standard but other colours maybe specified at time of order as an optional extra. Page 3 of 14

4 b) Foam Tank. i) Capacity. An 1800 Litre capacity tank is provided. ii) Construction. Tank is fabricated from 2.5mm Stainless Steel and is fully welded with a Ø250mm auto venting quick release fill lid. 2.5mm thick internal baffle plates are provided to minimise any surge, which may occur. iii) Connections. The tank has the following sized connections: - 1 BSPT Brass Gate Valve - 4 Pipe Inlet (Welded) - 2 Dip Tube Inlet lb. RF Flange for mounting Foam/Water Monitor iv) Paint Finish Externally: A two pack epoxy grey 750 primer under-coat with a semi-gloss Signal Red topcoat to BS: 538 (or equivalent) with a minimum DFT of 150 microns, in accordance with Macron Fireater s quality control procedures as approved by the Ministry of Defence. Note: Colours supplied are standard but other colours maybe specified at time of order as an optional extra. v) Sight Glass. This is not supplied as standard but can be supplied, as an optional extra, if required at time of order. Page 4 of 14

5 c) Foam/Water Monitor i) Type Model is an FJM 100 S Fog/Jet Monitor. ii) Working Pressure Maximum: 16 BarG iii) Construction Body: Stainless Steel Nozzle & Bearing: Bronze iv) Paint Finish Primer and red two-pack topcoat. v) Elevation/Rotation Rotation is 360º. The vertical elevation is between -60º to +90º the monitor can be locked in the required position. vi) Performance Water capacity: Throw: up to 6000 litre/min. at 10bar Approx. 80 metre at 6000 litre/min. 6 d) Inlet Manifold i) Type. Four way inlet manifold with one way check valves ensuring no loss of water if any individual hose should puncture. The manifold is connected to the monitor via a 4 waterway integrally welded inside the tank and terminating at the monitor with a lb. RF flange to suit the monitor. ii) Connection Size. 4 off 2-1/2 Male Instantaneous couplings (Gunmetal/Light Alloy), conforming to BS: 336 are supplied. All couplings are protected via rubber dust-caps c/w fixing chain. This will prevent the ingress of water and dust/sand as well as offer some protection from physical damage. The above is available as standard however other types of hose fittings can be supplied, including STORZ, ANST, etc., available in Light Alloy and Gunmetal. Page 6 of 14

7 3) Testing a) Pressure Testing on Piping. All pipe work and tubing will be pressure tested to 1.5 times the maximum working pressure (MWP), as per Macron Fireater quality control procedures. For example 10 BarG (MWP) would have a test pressure of 15 BarG b) Hydrostatic Testing on Tank. The tank will have a 1-metre pipe fitted to the lb. RF flange, to allow a 1-metre head test, which will check for any leaks. Duration of test to be 24 Hours. c) NDE on Welding. All welding to have NDE as per Macron Fireater quality control procedures. Note: The Quality Assurance Department at time of order placement can make Test Procedures available for review. Page 7 of 14

12 MONITOR FJM and FJM-S Installation WARNING - Do not direct the Nozzle stream towards any personnel. The fog/jet non-aspirating foam/water monitor shall be mounted with its inlet flange to a counter flange on the water feed pipe riser (flange type: see Order material specification). The flange gasket can be of any standard flange gasket type. Check that the monitor is easily moved in all directions, and that it's locking equipment works properly. Page 12 of 14

13 Function The monitor of the series FJM is balanced for easiest operation and handling, also when operating with max. capacity. The monitor has water balanced slide bearings for rotation. Each monitor is calibrated to the specific capacity required for each system (capacity data: see Order material specification). The FJM monitor has a constant flow nozzle, meaning that the nozzle capacity is unchanged whether in fog or jet position. The nozzle capacity can be changed at site by loosening the nut at the outlet of the nozzle and turning the disc to desired position according to separate adjustment table. Always start counting turns of disc from the zero point i.e. closed position. Normally the nozzle is factory adjusted at delivery according to the specific requirements. Operation Start water supply and foam supply system (see separate instructions). Manual Control The monitor water jet shall be aimed at the base of the fire or in front of it, while for cooling purpose the jet shall be directed onto the point or surface to be cooled. Release the locking pin (1) for rotation of the monitor, and the locking screw (2) for elevation movements, and aim at desired point. Shall the monitor be working unattended, lock it in desired position by pin (1) and screw (2) respectively. The fog/jet nozzle (3) can be used for either straight jet or fog. This change will be obtained by using the handle (4) on the fog/jet nozzle. After use Flush the monitor with water only. Maintenance monthly Check that the monitors are easy to move and that the locking equipment works properly. Lubricate the FJ-nozzle by applying some grease on the inside of the FJ-nozzle (3) and move it to its end positions. Test Run the whole system with foam regularly, at least every third month.
