1 Sale of Tegsnose Aberdeen Angus herd It is with great sadness that we`ve put our remaining cattle up for sale, due to Nigel`s illness. Nigel contracted Guillian-Barre syndrome in October 2015, and was hospitalised for 7 months, paralysed for 3 months. He is now recovering, and walking, as many members will know, but is now unable to handle cattle. The herd was founded in the early `90s, with females from The Moss, Netherton, Downfield, and Hatton herds. Using A.I., and some excellent bulls from Wedderlie, and Haymount, the herd has had many successes at shows and sales, notably Tegsnose Karman to Genus, and Tegsnose Karboy to Cardona. In 0, 26 embryos were imported from Kaharau in New Zealand, and the resulting females became the basis of the herd along with the Kath family. The herd is entirely grass fed (apart from bulls which receive additional cereal mix in preparation for sale), which makes it easy kept. Members of Biobest health scheme, BVD and Lepto free, never had a case of IBR, and Rispoval 4 vaccine is used routinely now. Johne`s level 2 (only been in scheme 2 years, if clear next spring, would move to Johne`s 1) We have had 1 case of Tb, and have recently had 2 short interval clear tests, and one clear blood test. Current stock bull, Oak Moor Enigma was acquired as an emergency measure when previous bull became infertile, but has impressed with easy calving and quick growing shapely calves. His figures are very impressive, especially EMA, and calving ease. Tegsnose cattle have been successful in many parts of UK, as well as exports to Sweden, Ireland, and Portugal.
