Morton, co-author of the popular book, The New Zealand Seashore, in collaboration with seaweed specialist Professor V.J. Chapman. Well illustrated with line drawings throughout, The Rocky Shore Ecology of the Leigh Area is the most comprehensive information available on the seashore life of the Marine Reserve. It introduces the reader to the life of conglomerate terraces and seaweed fringes, the rugged cliffs of Goat Island, the cave dwellers, the richly colourful variety of invertebrate life that lives under rocky slabs, and the hidden life of crevices and boulder beaches. For anybody who loves to turn over boulders and fossick in rock pools this booklet is a real must, and at only one dollar it is a real bargain. A FILM ABOUT SEASHORES Available from the National Film Library is a 16mm colour film called Seashores Compared. Running about 20 minutes, this film examines and compares five different seashores and their marine life in the Leigh area, including shores in the Marine Reserve. This film is highly recommended as a preview for school parties or clubs and societies visiting the area and the Leigh Laboratory. (The Auckland Branch of the National Film Library is: Midland House, 67 Great North Rd, Grey Lynn, Auckland 2). A written copy of the film's commentary may be had by writing to the Director of the Leigh Laboratory. TAPE-SLIDE SHOW Available from the Leigh Laboratory, for educational purposes, is a tape-slide program entitled The Marine Research Laboratory at Leigh: Activities and Programs. Comprising 48 slides and commentary, the program runs for 9'/2 minutes (and is recorded 3 times on one side of a C-60 cassette). This program is available to schools, clubs and societies. A typewritten copy of the commentary, further information, or the program itself, may be requested from the Director of the Leigh Laboratory. MAPS AND BROCHURES Maps of the Marine Reserve and pamphlets about diving and marine life have been produced and are obtainable from the Leigh Laboratory.
