5 POUl TRY Production, Disposition, and Income Final Estimates, This publication presents the final estimates made by the Crop Reporting Board relating to production, disposition, and income from chickens, eggs, and broilers, , and continues the official series published in Statistical Bulletin No. 512 issued February These revisions were made only after a thorough revie~1 of the original estimates published during , consideration of new data such as the 1974 Census of Agriculture, and the general level and trends of all other applicable indications. When inventory numbers were revised, corresponding adjustments were necessary in other items. The various items included in this report are described as follows: ON HAND DECEMBER 1: The chickens on hand December 1 each year are considered as the annual inventory number. DEATH loss OF LAYERS: Losses are estimated from producers I reports showing number of layers per flock which died during the preceding month. The annual death loss is computed from these monthly returns. CHICKENS RAISED: Estimates of chickens raised are primarily based on the number of egg-type chicks produced by comnercia1 hatcheries, including male breeding stock. CHICKENS AND POUNDS PRODUCED. The estimate is the net annual production of chickens raised during the year less death losses during the year and deaths of young chickens from the current year's hatch. The pounds produced equal the pounds sold, plus pounds consumed on chicken operations, and plus or minus the change in the inventory live weight during the year. EGGS PRODUCED: Annual estimates of egg production cover the 12 months from December 1 through Nove~ber 30. This refers to chickens and eggs con HOME CONSUMPTION OF CHICKENS AND EGGS: sumed on the production units. *i1iwm?\i'~""~ UPDATA 1,1881 ~'1 3
6 SALES OF CHICKENS AND EGGS: These sales are computed by subtracting home consumption from estimated production. Estimates of chickens sold are checked :agai~st data on commercial slaughter of mature chickens. BROILERS: Broilers include all young chickens of the heavy or cross breeds raised for meat, from which pullets and cockerels are sold as broilers, but do not include egg-type chickens. PRICES: Average annual prices per pound of chickens and broilers and per dozen eggs are computed from monthly prices received by producers weighted by the estimated quantities sold each month. Prices of eggs are for all egg sales, including hatching eggs and those sold at retail by producers. INCOME: Cash receipts from marketings of chickens are computed by multiplying pounds of chickens sold by the average price per pound. Cash receipts from marketings of eggs are derived by multiplying dozens of eggs sold by the annuf!l average pr'ice per dozen. Gross income from chickens is the total of cash receipts plus the value of chickens consumed in households of chicken producers. Gross income from eggs is the total of cash receipts plus the value of eggs consumed in households of egg producers. Gross income from broilers is derived by multiplying pounds produced by price per pound. It includes consumption in households of broiler producers. 5~~... UPDATA 1981 ~.; 4..j
