7 Gearmotor selection Definition of service factor The power and torque ratings apply to service factor fbp=1,0. Service factor fbp=1,0 gives continues operation 4 to 8 hours per day at uniform load without shocks and with 10 to 200 starts per hour. The moment of inertia of driven machines is less than 20% of the electric motor inertia and occasional peak torque may not exceed 1,8 times the torque ratings. 8 Gearmotor selection Control of radial overhung shaft load When power is transmitted through spur gears, belts, pulleys or chains radial forces are applied to the gearbox output shaft. The radial capacities are calculated from load centering and compared with the allowable radial load. Pulley, sprocket or pinion should be mounted as close to the shaft shoulder as possible to avoid undue bearing load and shaft deflection. The permissible load F r2 shown in the tables is assumed to act in the midpoint of the shaft. If the load act in any other point F r2 must be adjusted in accordance to below formulas. Values are presented in the most unfavourable angle and rotational direction. For specific values please contact Benzlers technical department. 9 Gearmotor selection Thermal speed limits for helical gears The thermal power rating (oil temperature limit) in helical gears can be reached or exceeded by churning losses and friction in the seal-rings, bearings etc. If and when this happens depends on various factors, such as The ambient temperature Load profile Speed profile Operating time Mounting position (Oil volume) Cooling conditions The losses in cylindrical helical gears are generally given to 1% per stage. This is a very rough estemation and may be valid at full load and temperature. In the table beside, speed limits are given depending on ambient temperature and degree of load for each size. These limits serve as guide values primarily for the basic mounting position ( BTM=H1), where the oil-volume is low. 1 Enter at selected gear-size given service factor, fbp, and ambient temperature 2 Check if the gearbox output speed is above or below given speed limit. (nlim) if a speed limit is missing (-) it may be assumed that no thermal limit is reached. 3 At output speeds below given limit the oil temperature may be assumed to stay below 90 C. At output speeds above given limit the oil temperature may exceed 90 C. If this limit is exceeded continuously, please contact Benzlers for information about, primarily, useful lubrication and seal-rings but also bearings that handles these higher temperatures. An alternative in some mounting positions would be to reduce the oil level in order to reduce the temperature. Check such possibility with Benzlers Technical Department. An other alternative is to choose a larger gearbox. At low temperatures lubrication must be chosen so start and operation may be done.
