4 BLX Index $uperborder$ is the brand name for high performing Border Leicesters that are individually ranked by Lambplan as above average for the breed. The new index for this year is the BLX Index, which is the overall value of the ASBV s, summarised in one score, which is the BLX Index. As there is increased downward pressure on ewe size, within this index, some of our ram sires have been penalised, and performed better under the old Maternal Index. However we will still continue to use our quality genetics to enhance our breeding program and pursue phenotypically superior animals, to provide top quality rams for our clients, and strive to improve our figures under the new Index. The BLX index adds together a ram s ASBV s, expressed in dollars per ewe joined. All rams on or over the qualify as a SuperBorder for the 2017 Sale. The index is created from the ram s contribution to each extra kilogram of lamb produced by the first and second cross breeder, and each extra lamb weaned by the second cross breeder. It takes into account that only 50% of the growth and fertility of the first cross progeny is attributable to the ram, and 25% of the second cross.

5 Key Mwwt- reflects the milking ability of female progeny. Wwt - weaning at 100 days. Higher ASBV means the progeny will be genetically faster growing. Pwwt - weaning weight at 200 days. Pfat - Fat depth at post weaning, important for the ewe progeny to have reserves when feeding lambs. Pemd - Post weaning eye muscle depth. NLW - number of lambs weaned expressed as a percentage. YGFW yearling greasy fleece weight heavier cutters means extra first cross wool to sell.
