4 $uperborder$ $uperborder$ is the brand name for specially benchmarked, high performing Border Leicesters that are individually ranked by Lambplan as above average for the breed. Both the BLX Index and the across flock Maternal index are included in our catalogue this year, to have a point of comparison for clients, who are familiar with the Maternal Index. As there is increased pressure on growth, within the BLX index, some of our ram sires perform better under the Maternal Index. We will continue to identify, and use superior genetics to enhance our breeding program, and produce structurally correct, well balanced rams, with high performance figures. The Maternal dollar index and ASBV s of each ram illustrate their ability to produce, increased returns and improved maternal traits. The BLX index adds together each ram s ASBV s, expressed in dollars per ewe joined. All 2017 rams on or above the cut off, qualify as a SuperBorder for the 2018 sale. This index is created from the ram s contribution to each extra kilogram of lamb produced by the first and second cross breeder, and each extra lamb weaned by the second cross breeder. It takes into account that only 50% of the growth and fertility, of the first cross progeny is accredited to the ram, and 25% of the second cross.

Pfat - Fat depth at post weaning, important for the ewe progeny to have reserves when feeding lambs. Pemd - Post weaning eye muscle depth. NLW - number of lambs weaned expressed as a percentage. YGFW yearling greasy fleece weight heavier cutters means extra first cross wool to sell.
