All heifers were AI synchronized bred to Mogck Sure Shot in one day and were cleaned up with Final Answer sons over a 45 day period. They are due to begin calving March 25. They were ultrasounded for calving date. This year we ve invested in Zoetis HD 50K genetic testing to aid our customers with dependable genetic information for 15 important and valuable traits. High-Density (HD) 50K Global Angus provides genomic predictions for Angus cattle by using more than 50,000 markers for a suite of traits related to calving ease, growth, efficiency, maternal productivity, temperament, carcass yield and meat quality, as well as the beef industry s first DNA-based economic selection index ($MVPFL) that includes growth, efficiency and carcass traits. The numbers are presented as a percentage rank, with a lower number indicating a more favorable potential for that trait. For example, a bull with a score 10 is in the top 10% of the global data set. A score of 1 indicates the animal is in the top 1% of all animals tested globally. Currently, there are over 40,000 animals worldwide in the data set in which our bulls were tested. Forty-seven of our bulls ranked in the top 10% for yearling weight and over half were in the top 10% for weaning weight. On every trait, our herd averaged higher than the mean of the total data set. We are pleased to see that our breeding choices are keeping us at the forefront of the Angus breed. Each trait is explained in more detail in the table below. The index assumes approximately 160 days on feed consuming concentrate rations and carcass value derived from a Certified Angus Beef (CAB) grid.
