They have been fertility tested and tested negative for BVD. Two separate Trich tests have been performed on all 2-year old bulls and are eligible for delivery to any state. A Trich test on yearling bulls maybe required to enter into some sates. DPCC will cover the cost of any additional Trich test. Ultrasound data will be available on registered bulls sale day. All cattle will be accompanied by proper health certificates for immediate interstate shipment. All PAP tests were performed by Dr. Tim Holt. Unconditionally Guaranteed All bulls are unconditionally guaranteed against breeding injury for the 1st breeding season. Breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turn out of the bulls. If you have any 2 problems with the bull, the bull must be returned to Diamond Peak and a full credit will be issued for a replacement bull. Things are looking up!! This past fall, the cattle markets took a fall from what was already a large drop from the previous high. Now, the markets have taken an unexpected turn and are looking much better than most expected. The cattle market system is a hard one to predict. We, as cattlemen and women, have the hard task of trying to go through the ups and downs, all the while managing our ranches through the bad times in order to get to the good times. I tell my children all the time that if it was easy, everyone would do it! That said, it s a tough way to make a living, but it is also very rewarding in many ways. The passion to do what we do keeps us going and enjoying even the worst of times. Now is a great time to purchase high quality bulls that will pay dividends in the future. With markets as they are, bull prices will also be down and this should be a great time to upgrade your bull battery. We are very thankful for the support we have received from our many buyers that have purchased Diamond Peak bulls in the past. The bulls have been doing a great job covering the Mountain West environment and staying sound. Much of this is because they are born and raised in the same environment. You will see in the catalog that we are DNA testing all of the bulls. Most of the data is in the catalog but the balance will be presented in the supplement sheet available on sale day. The DNA labs get overwhelmed with samples this time of the year and do not get the information out in a timely fashion. We believe the DNA data will help you make your selections more predictable. The top end of the heifers will be AI d and bred to Diamond Peak bulls and will be available for sale this fall. The steers are placed in the feedlot or held over for grass and then on feed. Performance has been excellent in the feedlot and on the rail. It pays to feed good cattle. Once again this year, we will be AI-ing over 3000 cows and heifers with breed-leading sires to provide our customers with the best genetics possible for this environment. 8 The Power of Genetic Testing The Igenity Gold genetic test analyzes and evaluates 13 traits based on each bull s genetic makeup. These results are scored against a database of both purebred and commercial cattle of multi breeds. The resulting score allows us to ensure the accuracy of the bull s birth weight and calving ease due to the fact all our Queens of Diamond Angus Cows are calved on open range and the calves are not individually weighted. This score is also a buying aid to you, to give you the opportunity to evaluate the genetic potential for the traits that are important to you. We have provided eight of the thirteen most important traits for your evaluation on each DIAMOND Angus and SimAngus Bulls offered in this sale. In addition, we have also created a custom DPCC Index. The DPCC Index puts selection pressure on several traits simultaneously without you having to review each individual trait score. The DPCC Index is a composite of: DPCC Score Birth Weight - 10% Calving Ease Direct - 20% Heifer Pregnancy Rate - 10% Stayability - 5% Average Daily Gain - 25% Residual Feed Intake - 10% Marbling - 20% We are excited to embrace the advancement of genetic testing to provide you an additional resource to make your bull selection. 6 One of the top Igenity tested herds in the nation. The Diamond Peak bulls exceeded the average of nearly 280,000 animals that have been tested with the Igenity profile in 12 of 13 traits. That is truly remarkable and very difficult to achieve. 9 How to use 1 to 10 Igenity Scores Igenity scores range from 1 to 10. They are not meant to indicate what is best, but rather predict relative differences among animals. Higher scores are not necessarily better it just means that the animal has the potential for more of that trait. Select scores that best fit what you need to improve your operation. The best scores will likely differ for each trait and be determined by your current level of production and what traits you need to improve. Trait and DPCC Index Definitions Calving Ease Direct (CED) An indicator of the probability that a calf will be born unassisted out of a first-calf heifer. Genetic factors such as birth weight and shape of the calf are included in Calving Ease Direct. Higher Igenity scores suggest greater calving ease when mated to first-calf heifers. Birth Weight (BW) Variation in calf weight at birth that a bull will transmit to progeny. Higher Igenity scores equate to more birth weight. Milk A predictor of a bull s genetics for milk production that will be expressed in his daughters. This is not a prediction of actual pounds of milk produced. Higher Igenity scores equate to greater milk production. Heifer Pregnancy Rate (HPR) A heifer s chance of conceiving over a normal breeding season. A higher value is desired. Stayability (STAY) The chance a heifer will remain in the herd as a productive cow until at least six years of age. A higher value is desired. Residual Feed Intake (RFI) An indicator of feed efficiency. RFI is the difference in animals daily consumption of feed to achieve the same level of daily gain. Lower RFI scores indicates greater feed efficiency. Average Daily Gain (ADG) An indicator of an animal s genetic potential for post-weaning growth. A higher score equates to more rapid growth after weaning. Ribeye Area (REA) Ribeye Area estimates muscling in a beef carcass, and is measured in square inches at the 12th rib. Fat Thickness (FAT) Fat thickness is scored as depth of fat in inches over the ribeye muscle at the 12th rib. Higher fat thickness scores equate to lower lean yield. Marbling (MARB) Marbling is an indicator of degree of fat within the ribeye muscle at the 12th rib. Higher marbling scores equate to a higher probability that a bull s progeny will grade USDA Choice or better. DPCC Index An index helps you put selection pressure on several traits simultaneously. The DPCC index is a combination of traits with emphasis on maternal performance and growth. The traits in the index and emphasis for each trait are broken down by the following percents: Birth Weight 10%, Calving Ease Direct 20%, Heifer Pregnancy Rate 10%, Stayability 5%, Average Daily Gain 25%, Residual Feed Intake 10% and Marbling 20%. These bulls were calved on open range and individual weights were not recorded. Therefore, we have provided Angus Gold genetic test scores, which is proving to be more reliable. A lower score for BW equals a lower actual birth weight and a higher CED equates to more calving ease. Over time, the industry has put more emphasis on CED because of its predictably. Our calving ease recommendation is a combination of both CED and BW score. 8

We caught up with those females this year, 14 years later, and couldn t be more impressed with how they adapted to their sea level environment and the kind and type of cows they grew to be.
