3 Working Principal Constant Filling Fluid Coupling is a kind of powered hydraulic transmission device, which works on the hydrodynamic principle. It normally consists of two major parts: driving part and driven part. Driving part consists of complement chamber, front half coupling, rear half coupling, plastic insert, impeller and casing. Driven part consists of shaft and rotator. The driving part is connecting to motor, the driven part is connecting to driven device. The rotating torque generated by the driving part will be transferred to the driven part through the working fluid medium filled. Motor (driving device) drive pump impeller and mechanical energy transforms into liquid kinetic energy. The working fluid medium push the rotator, thus the rotator transforms the kinetic energy to mechanical energy, and then drives the driven device. 4 Design Standards Applied: Fluid Couplings are designed in accordance with Chinese National Standards GB/T and JB/T , which also meet the requirements of international standards such as DIN and ISO. Feathers: Improve the starting capability of motors; Protect motors from overload, impact and vibration; Balance the load distribution in multi drive applications. Application: Widely used for mining machineries such as belt conveyers and scraper conveyers, bucket material handling machineries, ball mill, winding machineries, crushers, digging machines, mixers, straightener, cranes and tower cranes, etc. Selection of Fluid Couplings: In case of no special requirements required, the specification of the fluid couplings can be selected by motor rotation speed (e.g. the input speed of fluid couplings) and transmission powers in accordance with related values listed in the following table (Technical Data Sheet of Constant ( as medium) for Type Selection), then find the exactly the proper parameters in the related detailed technical data sheet for different types (sizes). Remarks: In case of using water as medium, the transmission power increases nearly 1.15 times as per oil as medium. So, when using water as medium, the value of nominal transmission power used for selection of coupling type shall be the actual value divided by
5 Placing Order Please provide the following figures before placing orders: input/output shaft diameters with fit tolerance, length of each ends, parameters for keyways (including keyway width and depth). In case there are some special requirements such as applied on belt pulleys, brake wheels and other special structure types, please specify the detailed technical requirements accordingly. Optional thermal switches are available to provide alarming function in case the fluid spurting malfunctions when the oil temperature inside fluid coupling reached to an extremely high level. 8 Installation & Disassembly Instruction Installation 1. Enough space shall be reserved between the motors and driven unit for installation of fluid couplings. 2. Keys should be well greased before they were placed in the keyways on motor and driven unit s shafts. 3. Specified tools can be used incorporate with screws on coupling s shaft to mount the coupling on motor s end smoothly. 4. The axial clearance between half couplings of motor and fluid coupling shall be 2~4mm. 5. The shaft concentricity between motor shaft and driven unit shaft shall be: axial deviation no more than 0.3mm, angel deviation no more than 40, space plates and elastic plates can be used to adjust the deviations. 6. After installation, the foot bolts shall be fastened for motor and driven unit. Then the shaft concentricity shall be checked again. 7. The taper ratio of driven unit shaft (high speed end) is normally 1/10, during the installation, the specified sealing components and fasten bolts shall be used to avoid oil leakage. Note: During installation, pressure plates press and hammer impact are prohibited. No hot charging permitted to avoid the components and seal parts. Disassembly Loosen the installation bolts on motor and then remove the motor from the fluid coupling. Remove the fluid coupling from the driven unit. Only specified disassembly tools can be used to remove the fluid couplings. No hammer and/or pressure plates permitted. The screw on the coupling shaft can be used to remove the fluid coupling from the driven unit. 8
9 Medium (oil/water) Filling Instruction The function of medium: and water can be used to the fluid couplings (depends on the working circumstance) as inter medium to transmit torque within the fluid couplings. The filling volume is strictly concerned about the transmitted torque value. Different filling volume provides different torque. Thus, one fluid coupling can be adapted to different motors. Characteristics of medium (oil): The characteristics of oil will greatly influence the working performance of fluid couplings. Generally, the oil shall be of low viscosity, high flashing point, high density, low corrosion effectiveness and good antiaging capability. For example: Viscosity: γ=22~32 mm 2 /s (at 50 ) Specific Weight: p=0.86/cm 3 (at 50 ) Flashing Point: no less than 180 Solidifying Point: < -10 filling and inspection: Suggested and Min. filling oil volume: 1. The oil filled shall be filtered before putting into the oil chamber. 2. Proper oil level is very important to the safety running of the fluid coupling. So periodically inspection on oil level shall be performed. 3. The filling volume shall not exceed 80% of total volume of oil chamber. Too much oil filling or fulfilling will cause extremely high temperature inside the fluid couplings, which will cause damages of the fluid couplings. The Min. filling volume shall be no less than 40% of total volume of oil chamber; otherwise, the bearings inside fluid couplings may be damaged due to insufficient lubrication. Filling Routine Inspection: The oil filling level shall be checked periodically to ensure there are enough oil has been added inside the fluid couplings. 9
10 Operation & Maintenance Instruction 1. Transmission direction: the fluid couplings are be able to running both directions. So, be sure the couplings are installed in proper direction as required before the first trial run. 2. Net-frame protection shall be provided to the fluid couplings. 3. In case the driving motor reaches its rated speed, the driven unit shall be driven accordingly. Otherwise, the whole mechanism must be stopped immediately, and the load shall be checked to avoid further damages to the whole mechanism. 4. No oil leakage permitted during fluid coupling s running. 5. After 3000 working hours, the filled oil shall be checked to make sure there are no aging phenomena occurred. Otherwise, the oil shall be changed. 6. The flexible insects status and positional accuracy between motor s shaft and driven unit s shaft shall be checked periodically. 7. Unnecessary disassembly is forbidden to avoid the seal and fabrication accuracy damages. 8. The melting point of fuse alloy is 120. If the working temperature is extremely high and the alloy fused, oil inside the oil chamber will burst out. And oil shall be refilled. Note: It is forbidden to use normal medal material screw instead of fuse screw. 9. Start/stop action should not be very frequently to avoid oil over-heated. 10. Proper ventilation shall be provided. No directly sunshine to the fluid coupling. 10
