The graph, based on actual results, demonstrates that even though the Microglass II media has a higher initial AP that its useful capacity is more than 3 times that of element A. The multilayer construction of Microglass II media offers notonly a higher capacity butalso a longer life. In Figure 2 belowthe initial 'clean element' AP of two interchangable elements is compared. When 1 grams of ACFTD is added to each element the increase in AP measured across each confirms that Microglass II will give a longer life than element A. 6 Tank Top Filters FOUR NEW ACCESSORIES TAKES OUT ALL Т FILL PORT FTA and FTB Models only: The fill port is situated on the filter cap, and is generally supplied with a G 3 /e" plug. Filling through this port ensures that the incoming oil passes through the element and is filtered before entering the reservoir. The Guardian portable filtration unit can be connected to this port to facilitate initial fill or top up of the reservoir straight from the barrel. _r \ BREATHER FTA and FTB Models only: The air breather can be fitted as illustrated. To replace the element, simply remove the M4 socket head cap screw. This feature along with the fill port can eliminate the need for the standard filler/breather cap on the reservoir, which in turn reduces the overall cost of the system. ^M^ Global

7 Tank Top Filters FOR THE TANK TOP ГНЕ GUESSWORK: DIPSTICK FTA, FTB and Models: The dipstick is housed in one of the filter's securing bolts which has been modified to allow access into the tank. It generally comes in a standard length of 23mm (8"). With this feature it is not necessary to have a sight level gauge, again reducing the overall cost of the system. * It is recommended that the breather option is selected whenever the dipstick option is specified. BOWL Jj ADAPTOR FTA, FTB and Models: The bowl adaptor permits the fitting of an extension pipe. It should be used if the filter bowl is above the level of fluid in the tank during operation. This will reduce aeration of the fluid which in turn prolongs pump life, reduces heat, noise and helps to maintain system efficiency. Global

10 Tank Top Filters ELEMENT SERVICING Operating & Element Service Instructions Installation The FTA, FTB, Return Line filters are designed to operate in systems where the operating pressure does not exceed 1 Bar. The filter should be mounted to the tank lid via 2 bolt or 4 bolt fixings. See pages of this brochure for mounting hole and port connection detail. The maximum operating temperature range is -3'C to 11'C. Operation Fluid enters the inlet port on the head and flows around the annular area of the bowl outside the filter element, passes through the filter media and exits the bowl via the outlet port. The pressure differential across the filter will be at its lowest when the element is clean. See the flow curves on page 8 &9for differential pressure detail at rated flow. Contaminants removed from the fluid system build up both on and within the filter media. The pressure differential across the filter increases as the amount of trapped contaminant increases. This increase in pressure differential is reflected on the visual or electrical indicator if fitted. If no indicator is fitted then it is suggested that the element be changed at predetermined intervals. When the pressure differential across the filter element meets the bypass valve spring rate the valve opens preventing pressurisation of the element. Filter elements should be changed before the bypass valve opens as shown externally by either the visual or electrical indicator. Element Servicing Ensure that the hydraulic system is switched off and thatthe pipework is de-pressurised. To remove the filter element unscrew filter cover and extract element and bowl. Replace the element and secure the filter cover. During this procedure it is advisable to change the breather. To do this simply loosen socket head cap screw and remove and discard complete assembly.
