2 Before starting, see that the entire unit is properly lubricated. t is well to remember that too much oil and grease will do no harm but not enough might ruin it. All fittings are of standard style commonly found on farm implements and automotive equipment. Check below for their locations. We recommend frequent lubrication if unit is operated continuously for a long period of time. Grease all points at two hour intervals the first two days of operation and twice each day thereafter. Use a good grade of #-/ pressure gun grease. The Mixer Transmission has a 3b. capacity of #-/ lb. pressure gun grease. 00 NOT exceed these requirements. NOTE: See the Service Manuals of the Feeder Attachment and the Hammer Mill for their respective lubrication instructions. 3 SERVCNG THE NO. SO MX MXER GENERAL OPERATON. Maintain machine in level position if at all possible.. Keep all guards and covers in place during operation. 3. Keep the entire unit properly lubricated. 4. The unloading conveyor should be kept in the best position for transportation. 5. Maintain a proper tire pressure of 48 lbs. MLL DRVE. The V-belt drive must be kept in proper tension and alignment at all times. Belts at correct tension can be deflected only slightly. Set screws on the bearing mounting bracket provide the belt adjustment. TRACTOR DRVE. Maintain a standard ASAE tractor hook-up. t is very important to check the PTO shaft to hitch point dimensions. This should be 4" in horizontal direction. Correct tractor drawbar if necessary.. Under load maintain the P. T. O. speed at 540 RPM, especially when grinding heavy materials or through a small screen. The tractor speed can be reduced to suit the operator if only the Mixer and unloading conveyor are operated. 3. Keep the tractor lined up with the Mixer. Do not operate at severe angles as this will increase the possibilities of damage to universal drive. 4. The Universal Drive should be disconnected from the Tractor P. T. O. Shaft when Mixer is in transport. Place Universal Drive Joint in Upper Drawbar Hitch and fasten with the Hold-down Chain. CAUTON Loosen Mixer Drive Chain before adjusting Drive Belts. Be sure to tighten chain after adjusting Drive Belts. See item #6 on page 4. Here are important pointers to keep in mind when installing or replacing the drive:. Always use a matched set of belts.. Sheave grooves must be free of grease, oil, rust and burrs. 3. Slack the take-up mechanism so belts can be put on without forcing. 4. t is very important that the sheaves are correctly aligned. The two shafts must be parallel. 5. Place the belts on the sheaves. Take up the belts until tight. Any slippage will indicate belts are not tight enough. Be sure to again check sheave alignments. 6. The belts will be seated in the groove after a short break-in period, then take up the belts again. Check belt tension regularly. Slipping or twisting of the belts means either incorrect installation, lack of correct tension, or misalignment of the drive.. A clutch incorporated in the drive sheave allows the mill drive to be disconnected when only the Mixer is to be operated. Lift pin up to disengage. Do not attempt to engage the clutch while the Mixer is being operated. 3. Keep all drive guards in place. 3

4 4. To replace the Shear Bolt (Shear Pin before Serial #8), realign holes in Sprocket Flange and Safety Flange. nsert /4 x Hexagon Head Cap Screw and fasten with Lockwasher and Nut - #0D Common Nail on machines before Serial #8. n order that the Safety device always works properly, only one Shear Bolt or Pin is to be used. MPORTANT Take note of Calibrated Settings at Tank Windows and Feed Pound Chart Decal. MPORTANT When Bolt or Pin Shears, remove cause of over-load before starting machine again. NOTE Always use only one Full Threaded Bolt for Shear Pin. NOTE Keep Mixer Tank interior clean and free of Rust and Corrosion. To clean the Mixer Tank, feed approximately 0 or bushels of shelled corn through the Concentrate Hopper into the Mixer Tank. Allow corn to agitate for ten minutes or longer to clean tank. NOTE Mixer must be at least half full before adding molasses. Advance Power Take-off speed when pouring molasses in Mixer Tank. Pour lasses slowly to ::--- prevent feed from bridging in Tank. CA UTON: 00 NOT attempt to engage clutch while the P. T. O. shaft is in operation. CONCENTRATE HOPPER. Al ways keep the bag guard, located in hopper, in place.. Add concentrates or feed supplements only after the Mixer is partly filled. 3. Do not attemptto pour any liquids, such as molasses, into hopper. MXNG OPERATON. Grind heavy feeds first for the best mixing unless these feeds are very high in moisture content. Wet, heavy material should be mixed into light, dry feed to absorb moisture. Too high a moisture content can cause a serious packing problem and poor mixing. When grinding hay and ear corn with husks, grind 00 pounds of corn and then a bale of hay. This will prevent bridging in the Mixer Tank.. Liquids, such as molasses, should be added only after the Mixer is at least half full. Dry molasses can also be added at this time. See llustration. A Molasses attachment for the Mixer is available. See your local Gehl Dealer for more information. 3. Be careful not to overload the Mixer. This will cause the feed to pack and overload the mixing and drive mechanisms. Capacity of Mixer Ton (8 bu. ) cu. in. or 0 cu. ft. 4. Always keep the Mixer cover in position. 5. Check the inspection windows often for mlxlllg action and levels. Be sure to keep the windows clean. 6. Adjust Main Drive Chain by taking up on the dler Spring Stud. The dler Spring must not be extended more than one inch. Chains and Sprockets wear rapidly when set too tight. Chain Links are provided for lengthening Chains when necessary due to Belt takeup. They will be found bolted to the Concentrate Hopper Support Channel. 4

As the feed gets below the inspection window, adjust the slide to prevent the Mixer unloading auger from spilling feed back into the Mixer. ustment 7. Adjust Concentrate Hopper Auger Drive Chain by moving Chain Tightener Sprocket and Stud. Be sure the Chain Tightener Stud Nut is tight after adjustment. 3. To raise the Discharge Conveyor, turn the Rc'tchet Handle to the right. To lower Conveyor, release Ratchet Stop Dog and turn Ratchet Handle to the left. Chain Tightener Sprocket UNLOADNG OPERATON. Engage the unloading clutch beneath the Mixer on auger drive shaft. Be sure this drive is disengaged when not unloading. 4. When a bagger is used, it is important that the tractor speed be reduced to allow the bags to be handled or the auger will be seriously overloaded. CAUTON... Disengaged Do not use the Discharge Conveyor for bagging without using a bagger. MXER AND CONVEYOR DRVE CHAN ADJUSTMENT t is important that Drive Chains are at proper tension at all times. To adjust tension, loosen chain tightener stud and move Sprocket toward Chain. KEEP Off MPLEMENT. ~ KEEP OTHERS OfF. ~ ~...,..,Ai/r 6 SWNGNG AUGER FEEDER _ When using the Swinging Auger Feeder it will be necessary to select a position suitable for feeding into the Auger. Raising the Auger will increase its capacity. DO NOT OPERA TE HGHER THAN LEVEL. The Jack under the Auger Trough is used to maintain a positive height on the Auger. To raise the Trough, turn handle to the left. To lower, turn handle to the right. NSPECTON DOOR To check rolled material before it passes into the Mixer Tank, pull spring loaded inspection door open to let a small amount of rolled material drop out of bottom of trough. The Auger Swing is controlled with a positioning Lock Pin found on the lower end of the Pivot Support. A series of holes provides different positions for the Swinging Auger Feeder. WHEN OPERATNG ALWAYS HAVE THE FEEDER SWNG LOCKED WTH THE POSTONNG PN. When the Swinging Auger Feeder is in transport position do not lock positioning pin. To change the Auger position pull the positioning pin up and turn pin to the side to hold it out of a locked position. When desired Trough location is reached turn pin so it drops into the locating hole. 6

7 To put the Auger in transport position disengage the locating pin and position the Auger Trough over the Trough Rest with the Rest Pin passing through the slot in the Trough. nsert Locking Pin in Trough Rest Pin to keep Trough from disengaging in transport. The Conveyor Cover Accessory increases capacity when feeding small grains into the Conveyor and should be tipped up when grinding large ear corn. See page 33 for parts list and illustration. The Hopper Cover slide is provided to prevent grains from deflecting out of the Hopper. Slots are provided to regulate the slide. t is possible to select four different Auger speeds. The clutch shifter on the end ofthe Conveyor Trough has two speeds and neutral. Move handle to the left for fast speed, right for slow speed and in the center for neutral. The Trough Hood serves as wind protector for small grains. When grinding large ear corn at fast Auger speed, the hood should be tipped up or removed. Fast Neutral Slow W The Hopper Cover is hinged so it can be tipped up when feeding baled hay. Bale slices must be fed into the Hopper and not the Auger. The clutch shifter on the Gear Box also has two speeds and neutral. Move handle to the right for fast speed, left for slow speed and in the center for neutral. 7

8 OPERATNG Experience of the operator, the size of the screen in the Hammer Mill or the material being rolled, cracked or crimped by the Roller Mill will determine the Auger Speed to be used. HUSKER-SHELLER Two adjustments are pr.ovided on the end of the Auger Trough to take up the chains. Check periodically. DO NOT make the chains so tight that it puts undue strain on the shafts and bearings. See illustration below. NOTE For Husker-Sheller Operation and Service, see separate manual included with the Husker Sheller. The Husker-Sheller Drive Belts must be kept in proper tension at all times. Belts at correct tension can be deflected only slightly. A set screw on the left Husker-Sheller Support provides the belt adjustment. J / / A Chain Tightener Sprocket is provided for taking-up each of the Main Drive Chains. Loosen dler Stud Nuts and move Sprockets up to take-up Chains. Do not set Chains too tight or Sprockets and Chain will wear rapidly. 8

9 When Husker-Sheller is not being used, disconnect Universal Drive from the P. T. O. Shaft and slip Joint Yoke over the Hanger Bolt. MLL DRVE A clutch incorporated in the Hammer Mill Drive Sheave allows the Mill Drive to be disengaged when only the Mixer is to be operated. Lift pin up to disengage. CAUTON Do not attempt to engage clutch while thep. T.O. Shaft is rotating. UNLOADNG OPERATON MPORTANT Mixer Discharge Blower must be in motion before starting unloading Auger. DSCHARGE BLOWER BLOWER DRVE The V-Belt Drive must be kept in proper tension and alignment at all times. Belts at correct tension can be deflected only slightly. Slipping or twisting of the Belts means either incorrect installation, lack of correct tension or misalignment of the Drive. To take-up Belts, loosen bearing housing bolts and slide housing and shaft until belts are at proper operating tension. Tighten bolts. Check Sheave alignment.. Engage the unloading clutch beneath the Mixer on auger drive shaft. Be sure this drive is disengaged when not unloading. Disengaged,... Engaged. f feed in Mixer is above cone or full, pull the slide all the way out. As the feed gets below the inspection window, adjustthe slide to prevent the Mixer 9

10 OPERATNG unloading auger from spilling feed back into the Mixer. MOLASSES ATTACHMENT Liquid Molasses should be added only after the Mixer is at least half full. Molasses should not be allowed to get colder than 60 degrees Fahrenheit as this will reduce the rate of flow due to thickening. Molasses can be diluted with water to increase rate of flow. To start flow of Molasses into the Mixer Tank, insert suction hose into Molasses. Loosen Pump Lever Lock and pull lever to engage Pump Drive Belt and Sheave. Tighten Lever Lock. NOTE The Pump does not require priming. NOTE When blower is not used for disconnect Universal Drive from the Blower Drive Shaft. BLOWER RM ADJUSTMENT Keep Blower Rim at all times. Blower sides must fit into openings between the Flange and Rim Liner. After using Molasses Pump, turn Clip and remove cross pipe from top of mixer tank. Flush out Pump and hoses with water. MPORTANT t is necessary that the suction strainer and the discharge nozzles be kept clean to prevent plugging and slowing of flow. Turn nut for adjustment. When not using Molasses Pump to pump Molasses, loosen lever lock to disengage Drive Belt. Tighten lockafterbelt is disengaged. There may be a slight drag on the Pump Sheave but this will not cause any damage to the Pump. 0

11 MOUNTNG NSTRUCTONS FOR MAGNETS The #50 SAF Swinging Auger Feeder Hopper Bottom uses Magnet - 3H60-8" x 0". the Hopper hole. nsert screws through the Magnet Plate and Hopper Bottom. Fasten on bottom side of Hopper with six /4 inch nuts and six /4 inch lock washers. The #55 SAF Swinging Auger Feeder Hopper Bottom uses Magnet - 3E60-8" x 4". The #600 Roller Mill Plain Hopper has the magnet hole already in and uses Magnet - 3H - 8" x 8". The #55 Crusher Swinging Auger Feeder Hopper Bottom has the magnet hole already in and uses magnet - 3E60A. Hopper bottoms are to be reworked for magnets as shown or they can be ordered from the factory with necessary holes for attaching magnets.
