9 Bronze and Brass Valves Installation Manual 1. leaning Prior to pipe connection, remove sand, mud, molten spatter deposits and any other foreign materials from the interior of the pipes to be connected to the valve. 2. Valve Installation - Remove any sward from the thread-cut portion of the pipe, then wrap with Teflon tape, or apply a thin coat of an appropriate liquid sealant (pipe compound), to that portion. The liquid sealant should be selected with due consideration to the kind and temperature of the fluid, and must be applied on the thread of the pipe. - hen a screwed-end valve will be connected to the pipe, be sure to hold the pipe in the pipe vice and screw the valve onto it. In this case, always apply the wrench to the connected end of the valve. To connect the valve and pipe, always hold the pipe in a pipe vice, and apply the wrench onto the connected end of the valve. 4. Disassembly and Reassembly Should repairing or other services require the valve to be held in a vice, secure the valve by holding its end-to-end portion between the jaws of the vice. For flange-type valves, protect their gasket seats by applying copper of lead protectors onto the jaws of the vice. 5. anger Inspection Proper installation and maintenance of the pipe hangers are essential for the proper functioning of the valve installed. The valve and adjoining pipes should always be kept in a straight line. 6. Prevention of Errors in Valve Operation Improper valve operation has caused many accidents in the past. For lines with high risk of accidents due to valve operation errors, appropriate markings (tags, colour-coded classification, signs) should be provided, and at the same time, infrequently used valves should be locked and/or sealed, with a sign indicating the location of the key.
