36 P-P Push-pull system U system Parallel system Description A push-pull system is a method of general filtration meant to prevent accumulation of welding fume in a workshop. It consists of ductwork provided with grids, one or two fans and one or two filter systems. The ductwork is installed at the height of the welding fume layer (4-6 m). In this way the welding zone is "enclosed" by the ducting. At one side of the ductwork the air is extracted ("pull") by the grids, filtered and blown out ("push") through the fan by way of the grids of the outlet duct. In this way a continuous air circulation is generated. The welding fume is constantly and efficiently removed and the background concentration of welding fume in the facility stays below the legally prescribed level. A push-pull system can be installed as a U system or as a parallel system. A combination of systems might be required to cover the entire welding zone within the facility.
