2 Wheel rock test 1 Wheel rock test We recoend that yo carry ot the wheel rock test and wheel bearing noise test and check the fnction of the seal system (grease leakage) in the event of signs of a malfnction. At brake disc changes and in the event of damage, e.g. brake overheating, inspect the bearing for grease leakage. For frther instrctions, refer to the error flow charts nder Wheel rock test bearing Raise the wheel. Do not remove the wheel! 2. Careflly remove the wheel cap. Pll Press Dial gage 3. Check the prescribed tightening torqe of the axle nt (900 Nm). 4. Position the magnetic foot of the dial gage as shown on the right. Srface mst be cleaned before. 5. By alternately plling and pressing (first pll at the top an press at the bottom, then pll at the bottom and press at the top), rock the wheel and read off the travel on the dial gage. Rotate the wheel several times before each measrement! If a wheel rock of more than 0.25 (250 µm) is measred, the hb nit has to be replaced. Press Pll Wheel rock test bearing Raise the wheel. Do not remove the wheel! 2. Careflly remove the wheel cap. 3. Check the prescribed tightening torqe of the axle nt (900 Nm). 4. Position the magnetic foot of the dial gage as shown on the right (pictre 1). Srface mst be cleaned before. 5. By alternately plling and pressing (first pll at the top an press at the bottom, then pll at the bottom and press at the top), rock the wheel and read off the travel on the dial gage. Rotate the wheel several times before each measrement! 3 Grease leak test / Wheel bearing noise test 2 Grease leak test (bearing 82 and 88 ) OK Increased grease leakage: 1. Indicator: If the wheel flange is covered with grease p to half the height when dry. 2. Careflly remove the wheel cap. 3. If the complete inside of the wheel flange, i.e. inside of cover, axle nt, axle tbe and seal are covered with grease, an increased grease leakage has occrred. There may be a small amont of grease on the lower edge of the seal. This is normal and does not indicate grease leakage. Seal not completely covered (pictre 2). Normal operating condition (= after a prolonged period of operation). Hb nit is OK. pictre 2 Not OK Seal completely covered all over with tar-like grease (pictre 3). Recoended measre: Replace the hb nit pictre 3 3 Wheel bearing noise test (bearing 82 and 88 ) Trn the wheel backwards and forwards (fast and slow) Frictional noises from the brakes or break-away effects cased by the sealing gasket or grease are normal and have no effect on performance. 4 Annealing colors on the flange 4 Annealing colors on the flange (only bearing 82 ) The discoloration is to be seen at the contact points to the brake disc and at the chamfer to the centering diameter or at the bottom of the blind holes (see figres). This discoloration is ble, red or occasionally tending to yellow. Discoloration in this area can be cased by incorrect fnction/operation of the brakes. The brake system mst therefore be checked for tractor/trailer brake synchronisation and for adaption. It mst be assmed that particlarly the grease or the bearing race and the seal have been sbjected to thermal damage. If large amonts of grease escape at the same time from the oter seal (nder the cap), the hb nit mst be replaced.
