3 (Original instrctions) ENGLISH Intended se Yor BLACK+DECKER mlti-prpose tool has been designed for a wide range of DIY applications. Using the drill/screwdriver head (BDCMTDD), this tool is intended for screwdriving applications and for drilling in wood, metal and plastics. This tool is intended for consmer se only. Yor BLACK +DECKER charger has been designed for charging BLACK +DECKER batteries of the type spplied with this tool. Safety instrctions General power tool safety Warning! Read all safety warnings and all instrctions. Failre to follow the warnings and instrctions listed below may reslt in electric Save all warnings and instrctions for ftre reference. The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to yor mains operated (corded) power tool or battery operated (cordless) power tool. 1. Work area safety a. Keep work area clean and well lit. Power tool se and care a. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for yor application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. b. Do not se the power tool if the switch does not trn it on and off. Health hazards cased by breathing dst developed when sing yor tool (example:- working with wood, especially oak, beech and MDF.) Vibration The declared vibration emission vales stated in the technical data and the declaration of conformity have been measred in accordance with a standard test method provided by EN and may be sed for comparing one tool with another. The declared vibration emission vale may also be sed in a preliminary assessment of exposre. Warning! The vibration emission vale dring actal se of the power tool can differ from the declared vale depending on the ways in which the tool is sed. The vibration level may increase above the level stated. Electrical safety Additional safety instrctions for batteries and chargers Batteries Never attempt to open for any reason. Do not expose the battery to water. Do not store in locations where the temperatre may exceed 40 C. Charge only at ambient temperatres between 10 C and 40 C. Charge only sing the charger provided with the tool. When disposing of batteries, follow the instrctions given in the section "Protecting the environment". p Do not attempt to charge damaged batteries. Chargers Use yor BLACK+DECKER charger only to charge the battery in the tool with which it was spplied. Other batteries cold brst, casing personal injry and damage. Never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries. Have defective cords replaced immediately. Do not expose the charger to water. Do not open the charger. Do not probe the charger. $ + Electrical safety The charger is intended for indoor se only. Read the instrction manal before se. # Yor charger is doble inslated; therefore no earth wire is reqired. Always check that the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate. Never attempt to replace the charger nit with a reglar mains plg. If the spply cord is damaged, it mst be replaced by the manfactrer or an athorised BLACK+DECKER Service Centre in order to avoid a hazard. 5

Slide the battery into the receptacle and psh ntil the battery snaps into place. To remove the battery, psh the release btton (6) while at the same time plling the battery ot of the receptacle. Warning! heads. Moving parts may become hot dring se. Lock the tool by setting the forward/reverse slider (2) to the centre position. To remove a tool head, depress the head release btton (3) and take the head off the tool. 6 psh it onto the tool ntil it snaps into place. Fitting and removing a drill bit or screwdriver bit allow for an easy exchange of bits. Lock the tool by setting the forward/reverse slider (2) to the centre position. Open the chck (9) by trning the front part clockwise with one hand while holding the rear part with the other. Insert the bit shaft into the chck (9). Firmly tighten the chck (9) by trning the front part anticlockwise with one hand while holding the rear part with the other. To remove the screwdriver bit from the bit holder, lift the bit from the recess. Use Warning! Let the tool work at its own pace. Do not overload. Warning! the location of wiring and pipes. done before. The battery may become warm while charging; this is normal and does not indicate a problem. Warning! Do not charge the battery at ambient temperatres below 10 C or above 40 C. Recommended charging temperatre: approx. 24 C. Note: The charger will not charge a battery if the cell temperatre is below approximately 0 C or above 40 C. The battery shold be left in the charger and the charger will begin to charge atomatically when the cell temperatre warms p or cools down. To charge the battery (5), insert it into the charger (12). not force. Be sre that the battery is flly seated in the charger. Plg in the charger and switch on at the mains. (slowly). The charge is complete when the charging indicator (11) lights green continosly. The charger and the battery can be occasionally tops off the battery charge. The charging indicator (11) will be lit as long as the battery is connected to the plgged-in charger. Charge discharged batteries within 1 week. Battery life will be greatly diminished if stored in a discharged state. Leaving the battery in the charger The charger and battery pack can be left connected with the pack fresh and flly charged. Charger diagnostics If the charger detects a weak or damaged battery, the chargfollows: Re-insert the battery (5). rate, se a different battery to determine if the charging process works properly. If the replaced battery charges correctly, the original battery is defective and shold be retrned to a service centre for recycling. -

7 (Original instrctions) ENGLISH If the new battery gives the same indication as the original battery, take the charger to be tested at an athorised services centre. Note: It may take as long as 60 mintes to determine that the battery is defective. If the battery is too hot or too cold, the LED will alternately blink red, fast and slow, one flash at each speed and repeat. Selecting the torqe or drill position (fig. D) This tool is fitted with a collar to set the torqe for tightening screws. For drilling, set the collar (8) to the drilling position by aligning the symbol with the marking (13). For screwdriving, set the collar to the desired setting. If yo do not yet know the appropriate setting, proceed as follows: t Set the collar (8) to position 1. t Tighten the first screw. t If the cltch ratchets before the desired reslt is achieved, increase the collar setting and contine tightening the screw. Repeat ntil yo reach the correct setting. Selecting the direction of rotation (fig. E) For drilling and tightening screws, se forward (clockwise) rotation. For loosening screws or removing a jammed drill bit, se reverse (conterclockwise) rotation. To select forward rotation, psh the forward/reverse slider (2) to the left. To select reverse rotation, psh the forward/reverse slider to the right. To lock the tool, set the forward/reverse slider into the centre position. Drilling/screwdriving Select forward or reverse rotation sing the forward/reverse slider (2). To switch the tool on, press the variable speed switch (1). The tool speed depends on how far yo press the switch. To switch the tool off, release the variable speed switch. LED work light The LED work light (10) is activated atomatically when the trigger is depressed. The LED work light will illminate when the trigger is partially depressed, before the nit begins rnning. Hints for optimm se Drilling Always apply a light pressre in a straight line with the drill bit. Jst before the drill tip breaks throgh the other side of the workpiece, decrease pressre on the tool. Use a block of wood to back p workpieces that may splinter. Use spade bits when drilling large diameter holes in wood. Use HSS drill bits when drilling in metal. Use masonry bits when drilling in soft masonry. Use a lbricant when drilling metals other than cast iron and brass. Make an indentation sing a centre pnch at the centre of the hole to be drilled in order to improve accracy. Screwdriving Always se the correct type and size of screwdriver bit. If screws are difficlt to tighten, try applying a small amont of washing liqid or soap as a lbricant. Always hold the tool and screwdriver bit in a straight line with the screw. Maintenance Yor BLACK+DECKER corded/cordless appliance/tool has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimm of maintenance. Continos satisfactory operation depends pon proper tool care and reglar cleaning. Warning! Before performing any maintenance on corded/ cordless power tools: Switch off and nplg the appliance/tool. Or switch off and remove the battery from the appliance/ tool if the appliance/tool has a separate battery pack. Or rn the battery down completely if it is integral and then switch off. Unplg the charger before cleaning it. Yor charger does not reqire any maintenance apart from reglar cleaning. Reglarly clean the ventilation slots in yor appliance/tool/ charger sing a soft brsh or dry cloth. Reglarly clean the motor hosing sing a damp cloth. Do not se any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner. Reglarly open the chck and tap it to remove any dst from the interior (when fitted). 7

BLACK+DECKER prodct needs replacement, or if it is of no frther se to yo, do not dispose of it with hosehold waste.
