Remove the rear wheels and tires. c. Inspect the rear brake pads for signs if asymmetric wear. d. If the inner and outer pads are the same thickness, this job is complete. Return the tractor to service. If they are not wearing evenly, call Harlan Global Manufacturing Warrantee Service and report this condition. You will receive parts required to continue. When the parts are available, continue to Step 2.

Page 7 of 31 Pages Complete these steps on each side of the axle: a. Remove the 14 hex bolts (1), lock washers (2) and 2 dowels (3). Note which holes use the dowels. b. Remove the axle shaft (4) and gasket.

Remove the axle shaft (4) and gasket. Discard the gasket. c. Flatten the tabs on the large lock washer (6) and remove the two hub nuts (5). d. Remove outer oil seal (7). Discard the seal. Figure 4, Improvised Bearing Puller e. Step f requires a pair of hooks as shown above. You can make them by bending cotter pins as shown.

8 Page 8 of 31 Pages Figure 5, Removing the Outer Bearing f. Remove the outer wheel bearing cup and cone set. Clean the grease from the outer wheel bearings and the inside of the hub. Figure 6, Correct and Incorrect Bearing Installation Correct Incorrect g. Inspect the inner wheel bearing. Note the difference between the correct and the incorrect installation. h. If the bearing are installed correctly, troubleshoot the rear brake system for the uneven wear before returning the tractor to service. If the bearing is installed incorrectly, call Harlan Global Manufacturing Warrantee Service and report this condition. You will receive parts required to continue. When the parts are available, continue to Section B.

Remove the rear wheels. Remove the brake calipers. Remove the axle shafts. (1), (2), (3), (4) and (8). Remove the hub nuts (5), lock washers (6), grease seals (7) and outer bearings (9). Discard the lock washers (6) e. Remove the brake rotors. f. Remove and discard the axle arm and rotor (13) oil seals. g. Remove and discard the inner bearings (11) and bearing races (12).

Put the inner bearing race (9) in the hub with the large hole facing upwards. Make sure it is level. c. Put the Inner Press Head on the bearing race and press the race into the hub until it seats.

Install a cap on one end. c. Machine the other end 010 deep, 1 inch long. c Figure 15, Installing the Axle Arm Oil Seal d. Drive the new axle arm oil seal onto each axle arm.

Rotate the Hub back and forth to slip the seal over the axle arm. c. If necessary, tap the rim above the bearing (a) with a hammer and punch to seat the hub on the axle arm. When fully seated, the outer surface if the rotor is aligned with the edge of the backing plate (b). d. Repeat these steps for the other hub.

Put the tapered bearing from the bearing set with in the bearing packer tool and pump bearing grease into the bearing until the grease emerges from between the bearing rollers. b. Page 23 of 31 Pages a Figure 22, Installing Inner Bearing Nut a. Thread the inner 02025-0051 (5) Wheel Bearing Nut onto the end of the axle arm. Important: Be careful not to cross-thread this nut.

If the nut does not turn smoothly, it is probably cross-threaded. b. Use a 2 7/8 wrench to tighten the nut until it is snug. c. Push and pull on the rotor to check for end-play and turn the rotor to check the rotational friction. Tighten the nut enough to eliminate any noticeable end-play, not enough to create any noticeable increase in rotation friction.

Install second nut and tighten it to ft. lbs ( NM) A flat on the nut must align with a tab on the lock washer.

25 Page 25 of 31 Pages f f f. Bend one tab of star washer backwards over the flat of the inner nut and another tab on the opposite side of the star washer forward over a flat on the outer nut. g. Repeat a to f on the other hub and rotor assembly.

27 a c Figure 26, Inserting Axle Shaft a. Apply a layer of RTV Silicone Gasket on both rotor ends. b. Install new axle hub gaskets (8). c. Insert the Axle Shafts (4) into the axle assembly. Page 27 of 31 Pages

28 Page 28 of 31 Pages g g Figure 26, Installing Axle Shaft Bolts d. Put dowels (3) on 4 of the 14 bolts (1). e. Put Lock Washers on 10 of the bolts (1). f. Apply 2 drops of LockTite 271 to each of the 14 bolts. g. Install the bolts with dowels in the larger holes. Tighten the bolts to 70 ft-lbs. h. Install the remaining 10 bolts. Tighten the bolts to 70 ft-lbs. i. Repeat Steps a to h on the other Axle Shaft.

29 11. Page 29 of 31 Pages Completing The Job a. Service the brakes as required. If there is any oil on the brake pads, replace the pads. b. Reinstall the brake calipers. c. Install the wheels and tires. d. Drive the tractor and check axle and brake operation. e. If everything operates normally, return the tractor to service.
