4 STAINLESS STEEL EXPANSION BELLOW Expansion control in pipelines, ducting and vessels which carry hot or cold fluids or which are exposed to the large variations in ambient temperature is a major problem confronting designers. As the metal temperature increases or decreases, the dimensional change due to thermal expansion or contraction will enduce excessive stresses in the piping, ducting or vessel and large forces will be transmitted to anchors and connected equipment. For controlling such stresses and bring them to allowable values for the materials used in piping, ducting, and vessels, several different methods are available, such as the use of pipebends and expansion loops. However the most modern designers prefer the use of metallic bellows expansion joints, because they require less space than bends and loops and because their inherent flexibility enables them to absorb movements in more than one direction, thereby permitting greater freedom in design. Furthermore, expansion joints prove to be more economical than other devices, so their use results in lower initial costs for piping and construction work, operating costs being reduced as well. BELLOW ELEMENT. The flexible element of an expansion joint, consisting of one or more convolutions obtained by the hydro-forming or mechanical forming according to the diameter of the shell of a material sutiable for the required specification. Bellows are welded to tube ends or flanges to constitute different models of expansion joint assemblies. INNER SLEEVE. A device which is also referred to as liner, telescopic sleeve etc, to avoid the head losses or turbulence and streamline the flow through bellows. It is required if the fluid flowing through the bellows is at very high velocity. ENDS. The ends of an expansion joint, which may be either equipped with flanges or suitably beveled for welding to adjacent equipment or piping etc. They are in compliance with applicable standards in force. Bellows offered by us are designed based on E.J.M.A guidelines and our stanadard range comprises Of Bellows from 2inch to 72inch NB in single and multiply construction for different working temperatures, pres sures and movements. The Cyclic life of a Bellow depends upon the extent to which It is stressed under optimum working Pressure, Temperature, Axial and Lateral deflection. To achieve a long life, a Bellow must be operated well within the maximum design parameters for both deflection and pressure.

Some of the most common expansion joints being used for different applications are listed below. Angular Motion AXIAL JOINTS. Axil Joints This expansion joint is simply a bellows element with pipe ends or flanges connections.it is manufactured from Single and multiply elements. These bellows are suitable only for axial movements & also absorb limited lateral displacements. Tide Axial Expansion Joints also have one bellows except that their length is restrained tie rods. UNIVERSAL EXPANSION JOINTS. Universal Expansion Joints The universal expansion joint consists of two bellows separated by pipe section or spool. The primary purpose of this arrangement is to have a unit which will accept large amounts of lateral deflection. The amount of lateral deflection they can accept is a function of the amount of angulation.these joints have no restrains to resist pressure thrust like the axial. For given bellow element the amount of lateral deflection capability is increased or decreased by simply changing the length of the center spool. Bellow expansion joints standard or custom designed are recommended for the following applications. * Vacuum Steam * Petrochemical * Hot Water * Utilities * Solar * Environmental

7 STAINLESS STEEL CORRUGATED FLEXIBLE HOSES. HOSE Stainless Steel Corrugated flexible hoses are offered from 6mm (1/4 ) to 300mm(12 ). The annular corrugated hose body provides the flexibility and pressure tight core of the assembly. BRAID Unbraided corrugated hoses tend to elongate when pressurized above a certain level. To restrain this, an external layer of stainless steel wire braiding is provided on the hose. Braiding prevents longitudinal expansion of corrugated hose and thus increases the internal pressure strengthen of the hose many fold.braiding is highly flexible and exactly follows the movements of the hose. To increase the pressure ratings further, two or even three layers of braiding are provided. Unless specified, braiding in high tensile stainless steel AISI 304 wire, will be supplied. ASSEMBLIES Stainless Steel hose assemblies are engineered to perfection in flexibility, strength and reliability. It is possible to greatly reduce (or completely eliminate) maintenance and replacement costs which occur with conventional hoses used in extremely adverse conditions on various industrial applications. Within its working temperature range P. T.F.E. is completely inert to most known chemicals including alcohols, ehtylene glycol, concentrated acids, oils and fuels. P.T.F.E. hose has been tested and recommended for such aggressive acids, gases and solvents as nitrogen, hydrogen, ammonia, freons, butane, propane, chlorine, benzene, toluene, xylene, carbon tetrachloride, trichlorethylene, esters, ketones, hot fuming nitric, sulphuric and hydrochloric acid, concenrated sodium hydroxide, ammonia hydroxide and steam. Exceptions are few and comprise molten alkali metals and elementary flourine at elevated temperatures and pressures. P.T.F.E. will not cause contamination and can be handled with complete safety within its working temperature li mits.
