4 Weekly Grain Comments (Source: Profarmer) To the point: CBOT wheat moves sharply lower over the past week. Sorghum harvest continues to progress with southern markets lacking market activity. Key Market Indicators 27/02/19 CBOT Wheat Mar 19 AUD/USD ICE Canola Mar 19 AUD/CAD Matif Canola May 19 AUD/EUR This week $A/t Usc/bu US c $A/t $C/t CA c $A/t /t Euro c Last Week Change International and National Recently CBOT wheat markets have been softer and this has spilt over on to neighbouring CBOT corn and soybean markets. Following the GASC (Egyptian) tender last week in which no US wheat won business, CBOT wheat markets have remained under pressure with the market acknowledging the lack of demand for US wheat and the possibility of better than expected European production. It is expected that weakness in CBOT wheat futures will continue until there is an increase in the amount of demand for US wheat. In the past week there has been an increase in the positive sentiment that there will be a trade agreement between the US and China. This is due to the US President declaring that the March 1 st deadline has been suspended, providing support that there will be a deal soon. If this were to occur there may be some further support for CBOT futures. Sorghum harvest continues to progress throughout Qld this has seen some slightly softer prices in the past week. There continues to be a lack of market activity in southern markets. Page 4 of 6
5 Wheat Sth QLD/Nth NSW Wheat markets remain quiet this week, seller activity remains very minimal as they wait for a pickup of activity in the market. Sth NSW/VIC/SA Grower selling continues to remain very minimal in these markets, after weakening in offshore wheat values caused weakness in domestic markets. Barley Sth QLD/Nth NSW Export business remains minimal for Australian barley in recent weeks. As a result, east coast feed markets are the most likely home for barley until export business picks back up. Sth NSW/VIC/SA Southern markets continue to remain relatively quiet with buyers remaining on a hand to mouth basis. Sorghum Sorghum harvest continues this week with low yields being reported and Sorghum 2 being the dominant grade. The late-planted sorghum crop is in need of rainfall, as the dry weather has continued in growing areas. Page 5 of 6
