4 Weekly Grain Comments (Source: Profarmer) To the point: International markets have found some support this week. Domestic markets have followed their interntional counterparts higher also. Key Market Indicators 13/02/18 CBOT Wheat Mar 18 AUD/USD ICE Canola Mar 18 AUD/CAD Matif Canola May 18 AUD/EUR This week $A/t Usc/bu US c $A/t $C/t CA c $A/t /t Euro c Last Week Change International and National The USDA WASDE report was released on Thursday night Australian time. It was a fairly bullish report, although the market response was somewhat subdued. International wheat values saw some support throughout the week as concerns about dryness in the US, along with lower projected US exports raised prices. Prices are moving around a bit of late, as much of the southern hemisphere harvest is done and these markets are now reacting to weather in the northern hemisphere. Domestically prices have generally followed international markets higher this week. Barley continues to move high in a historical context as global supplies are lower than other feed grains such as corn or wheat. Page 4 of 6
5 Wheat Sth QLD/Nth NSW Hot weather, a stronger international market and lack of grower selling has supported wheat values this week. Feed grains are generally trading close to their higher protein counterparts. Sth NSW/VIC/SA Wheat markets have been firmer this week. Sellers have come more to the market and buyers appear to be matching them, with reasonable depth. Barley Sth QLD/Nth NSW Barleys remained joint at the hip to wheat values and risen with them. Sellers in this part of the world have been sporadic. Sth NSW/VIC/SA Barley has also moved higher this week supported by offshore cereal markets. This is also reflective of the tightness in barley stocks both domestically and offshore. Sorghum There has been good rainfall across a significant part of cropping areas in SQLD and CQLD. This will arrest yield decline and support later crops in SQLD. There may be some extra demand for exports if the Australian dollar continues to track lower. Page 5 of 6
