If in case f mistreatment the ingredients are released, a spntaneusly flammable gas mixture may be released under certain circumstances (measures accrding t chapter 4 t 6). Mercury has nt been intentinally intrduced (as distinguished frm mercury that may be incidentally present in ther materials) in the sense f the U.S.A. Mercury-Cntaining and Rechargeable Battery Management Act (May 3 996). The Regulatin n Mercury Cntent Limitatin fr Batteries prmulgated n by the China authrities including the State Administratin f Light Industry and the State Envirnmental Prtectin Administratin defines lw mercury as mercury cntent by weight in battery as less than 0.02%, and mercury free as mercury cntent by weight in battery as less than 0.000%. And therefre: Varta lithium primary cylindrical cells/batteries belng t the categry f mercury-free battery (mercury cntent lwer than 0.000%). 3. Dispsal cnsideratins USA: Lithium primary cylindrical cells are classified by the federal gvernment as nn-hazardus waste and are safe fr dispsal in the nrmal municipal waste stream. In the Eurpean Unin, manufacturing, handling and dispsal f batteries is regulated n the basis f the DIRECTIVE 2006/66/EC O THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND O THE COUNCIL f 6 September 2006 n batteries and accumulatrs and waste batteries and accumulatrs and repealing Directive 9//EEC. 6 MSDS Transprt infrmatin General cnsideratins Lithium primary cylindrical cells manufactured by VARTA Micrbattery are cnsidered t be lithium metal cells and are tested accrding t 38.3 f the UN Manual f Tests and Criteria fr cmpliance with the requirements f special prvisins ADR 88, IMDG 88, DOT / 49 CR 3.02, and the requirements f IATA DGR packing instructin 968 Sectin II. Psitive test results required fr classificatin as nn-restricted are stated in dedicated Declaratins f Cnfrmity. In additin, the fllwing cnditins fr nn-dangerus gds classificatin are fulfilled by ur prducts in riginal VARTA packaging: The batteries cntain an equivalent amunt f nt mre than g lithium per cell and 2 g lithium per battery. The batteries are islated in the packaging t avid shrt circuits. The packs are marked with a warning ntice, that clearly states that the pack cntains lithium batteries and must be quarantined, inspected and repacked if damaged. r air transprt, the ttal mass des nt exceed 2. kg per pack; fr ther transprts 30 kg are allwed.
