Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 56, Rear Window Defrost for schematic and connector information. Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 59, Multi-function Electronic Control Modules for schematic and connector information. Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 60, Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information. Special Tool(s) Worlwide Diagnostic System (WDS) 418-F224 New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 418-F052 ( ) or equivalent 73III Automotive Meter 105-R0057 or equivalent Principles of Operation Power Window Control The driver power window is controlled by the FEM. The driver power window regulator control switch and motor are hardwired directly to the FEM. The FEM will read the window regulator control switch actuation and provide the corresponding output to the window motor. If one touch operation is selected, the FEM powers the driver window motor for seven seconds or until the FEM senses the motor is stalled. If the window track, regulator or glass weatherstrips cause the glass to bind, the FEM may interpret this as a motor stalled condition and halt motor operation. The passenger and rear quarter flip window motors are hardwired directly to the window regulator control switches and are not controlled by the FEM. Heated Rear Glass The heated rear window is controlled by the PCM, REM and instrument cluster. The ignition switch must be in RUN and the engine above 400 rpm for the heated rear window to operate. The heated rear window operates as follows. Pressing the heated rear window switching (which is hardwired to the instrument cluster) supplies a ground signal to the instrument cluster. Upon receiving the ground input from the heated rear window switch, the instrument cluster: sends a command ON signal to the REM over the J1850 network. supplies a power source to the heated rear window ON indicator in the climate control assembly. This output circuit is also hardwired. Upon receiving the command ON signal from the instrument cluster, the REM will check if the RPM message sent by the PCM is above 400 rpm. If the rpm is above 400, the REM will enable the heated rear window relay by supplying a ground to the relay coil. This closes the relay contacts and supplies power to the rear window grid. In the event an rpm or ignition switch invalid or missing data message is present, the REM will not enable the heated rear window relay. The heated rear window is a configurable feature for the REM. For this feature to operate it must have been configured ON when the vehicle was built. Delayed Accessory Delayed accessory operation allows the power windows and radio to operate for up to 10 minutes after the ignition is turned to. The delayed accessory function is controlled by the FEM. When the ignition switch is turned from RUN to, the FEM will begin the timing sequence. If a door is opened or the ignition switch is activated to another position, the FEM will cancel the delayed accessory operation. Inspection and Verification NOTE: The ignition switch must be cycled from to RUN to enable the switched system power (SSP) feature. 1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system. 2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step. 4. If the scan tool does not power up, refer to the scan tool manual. 5. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the scan tool responds with: CKT 914, CKT 915 or CKT70 - ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Section NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for the front electronics module (FEM), go to Pinpoint Test A. NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for the rear electronics module (REM), go to Pinpoint Test B. NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for the electronic instrument cluster (IC), go to Pinpoint Test C. System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self test diagnostics for the FEM, REM and instrument cluster modules. 6. If the FEM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the FEM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. 7. If the REM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the REM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. 8. If the instrument cluster DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. 9. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.
