The use of these guides for any other purposes will be at the discretion of each service outlet. All time guides are subject to change by Allison Transmission, Inc. related to improved methods, techniques or equipment, or other advances in the industry. 3 BASIS FOR TIME ALLOWANCES The labor operations covered in this guide allow sufficient time to perform the mechanical work described and to secure parts and special tools, and cleaning of tools after use. The special tools and equipment to be used in performing the described operations are available to all Allison Transmission service outlets. This Labor Time Guide has two categories of labor operations: 1. Flat Rate Labor These labor operations have been time studied. Allison Transmission will reimburse for the time listed under this category regardless of whether the time is less than or greater than the time listed. When filing for reimbursement on a claim, list the time in the time guide. 2. Time Guide Labor These labor operations are only guidelines as to the amount of time that operation will take, as it has not been time studied. When utilizing these labor operations, actual time must be requested on the claim. When the hours required exceed what is listed under the Time Guide Labor operation, an explanation of the excess time is required on the claim. Any questions relating to suggested or existing operations, Time Guide Labor, or Flat Rate Labor in this Labor Time Guide should be submitted on a Labor Time Guide Operation Change Request form. These forms can be found at the back of this publication. When completing this form, it is important that the transmission identification data affecting or influencing the operation in question be provided. It is also important to submit a complete (detailed) description of the work performed. The statement followed Service Manual procedure is not a sufficient explanation of the procedure followed. Generally, a mechanic performs the steps of an operation in a sequence which is comfortable to the technician, and it is their procedure which we would like to review and compare. The request should then be forwarded to the address indicated on the form. All inquiries received will be acknowledged and reviewed. A review will be conducted of the Labor Time Guide text and procedure as outlined in the Service Manual and Service Information Bulletins; restudies will be conducted as required. The times are shown in hours and/or tenths of hours, as this format is required in claims preparation. DESCRIPTION OF S The name of the operation is intended to briefly outline the work to be performed. No attempt is made to list all work in detail. Service Manuals should be consulted when details of operations are desired. TYPES OF S USED MAJOR All operations designated by an operation number ending in 00 are classified as Major Operations, with the exception of the Labor Operations for Time Studied R & R and the time allowance is sufficient to perform the work described. COMBINATION All operations listed under a Major Operation are classified as combinations and the operation numbers end in numbers other than 00, such as 01, 02, 03, etc. The time allowance for a Combination Operation is sufficient to perform that specified operation. Certain combination operations can only be used in addition to a Major Operation, while others can be used independently. Whenever a Combination Operation is performed, its operation number must be shown, regardless of whether the Major Operation is also being utilized. ADD Additional time allowances, which may be required for performing a Major Operation or supplement a Major Operation, are classified as Add Operations. The Add Operation numbers end in numbers other than 00, such as 01, 02, 03, etc. Some Add Operations can only be used in addition to a Major Operation, while others can be used independently. Any time an Add Operation is performed, its operation number must be shown on the warranty claim. GENERAL Following each major group of operation numbers is a General Operation. This operation number is to be used when performing work not previously covered by an operation number. Use the General Operation number and detail the work performed and time required. 4 DEFINITIONS OF TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS Definitions: ADJUST To bring parts being worked on to an established standard for fit or to make the parts functional to an established standard of performance. CLAIM A form used in submitting Warranty, Policy, and miscellaneous service claims to Allison Transmission. CHECK To compare with established standards. FLAT RATE A measured amount of time that it takes to perform a certain labor operation. This time is reimbursable at the published rate regardless of the actual time it took to perform the repair. TIME GUIDE A guideline established for a labor operation. This time is only a guideline. When utilizing this labor operation, actual time must be requested on the claim. If the requested time exceeds the Labor Time Guide hours, then an explanation as to the excessive labor must be written on the narrative of the claim for each labor operation. OVERHAUL To disassemble, clean, and inspect all parts; rebuild utilizing the same or new parts, assemble, and make all necessary adjustments. REMOVE AND REPLACE To remove a part or assembly from a transmission and/or vehicle, reinstall the same or similar part or assembly, and make the necessary adjustments. Also referred to as R&R.
