Next up, we have the North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) show where we will be showcasing our most popular commercial dump bodies. Show organizers say attendees will include commercial fleet owners, owner-operators, truck OEMs, commercial truck dealers, and distributors. The inaugural show is scheduled for September 25-28, 2017 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Truck Bodies and Equipment J&J s other fall show will be the International Utility & Construction Equipment Exposition (ICUEE) taking place on October 3-5, 2017 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. Among the 18,000 professionals who attend the show are field operations personnel, fleet managers, engineers, and executives from a variety of utilities industries, and more. J&J will feature a variety of different truck models including mechanic bodies, flatbeds, crane service trucks, and light and medium-duty dump bodies. Cornell Appointed Sales Manager A s some of you may know, Jason Cornell was recently assigned the Sales Manager position. In this capacity, Jason will be responsible for planning, implementing, and directing sales activities for Somerset Welding & Steel which includes both J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers and J&J Truck Equipment. Jason has been with our company on a full-time basis since We are confident his knowledge and past experience as Director of Business Development, among other positions within our organization, will allow him to easily transition into his new role. 2 A Letter from Bill Riggs In the middle of the summer, J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers and J&J Truck Equipment are producing bodies and trailers for our dealer and end user customers, our distributor network, and our fleet and leasing accounts. The sales department is actively working to build the sales backlog for the fall and winter and especially the spring construction-buying season. Developing, motivating, encouraging, and training our sales force is a critical component of our success and well-known brand in the marketplace. J&J recently promoted Jason Cornell to the position of Sales Manager for both J&J Truck Bodies and Trailers as well as J&J Truck Equipment. Jason s experience at J&J as well as his career as a high school wrestling coach provide an excellent background for leading a high performing sales department to success. Jason works very closely with Marketing Manager, Shahira Hoffman, to build J&J brand recognition in the industries that we serve and around the world. Although not roaring back to life, there are some glimmers of light in the oil and gas industry. J&J is ready, willing, and able to jump right in when orders come in for the substantial line of products we have for the oil and gas industry. Most of the current inquiries are for tank trucks and trailers for transporting clean and dirty water. J&J recently received an order for lugger trucks, which are a new product for us. J&J believes in pursuing various opportunities so long as the project is within our capability and we can meet the customer s delivery requirement. The J&J engineering department has great experience and skills to create new products that work reliably. 4 News Bytes From Our OEM Partners Ford Trucks new 2018 Ford F-150 and all-new 2018 Ford Expedition customers even better Medium Duty Aluminum performance, capability and efficiency. The latest benefits tie back to Ford s investment years ago in its high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy bodies and high-strength steel frames. This helped save up to 700 pounds of weight on the all-new F-150, allowing customers to tow and haul more than ever with their trucks. Freightliner Trucks, in partnership with Truck Country of Wisconsin, has secured a Material Hauler contract with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to supply the US Government with Class 5-8 trucks. The partnership submitted bids for 86 base configurations which are estimated to generate significant quantities of sales in vehicles that range from box trucks to heavy haul tractors. The 12-month contract was awarded the on April 11, 2017 and can be extended for up to two additional years. Kenworth of Pennsylvania now offers customers Kenworth Gold Certified Service at four locations, Pressure Vacuum Tank including Carlisle, Dunmore, New Stanton, and Shartlesville. Over the past two years, it has invested more than $500,000 on advanced courses for technicians and other employees at its dealer locations. That investment has paid off with the first four of its dealerships earning certification in Kenworth Gold Certified status, Kenworth s highest level of dealer service designation. Mack Trucks announced that Mack Over The Air (OTA) will be available on refuse vehicles including the Mack Heavy Construction 2018 Granite, TerraPro and LR models equipped with Mack 2017 GHG engines. Mack OTA allows customers to update software without disrupting their schedules, improving efficiency and increasing uptime. Mack refuse customers can plan for software updates and schedule them when it s most convenient, said David Pardue, vice president of connected vehicles and uptime services for Mack Trucks. Refuse applications demand real-time service and support because they have to be up and running and on time. Mack OTA is the next step in our uptime journey. Mack OTA will be available on 2018 Mack LR models equipped with a Mack engine with the availability of GuardDog Connect beginning in Q Mack OTA for the TerraPro and Granite models is also planned for later in Navistar, Inc. International was recently awarded a foreign military sales contract Half Round valued at $18.8 million to provide 115 International 7000-MV Medium Tactical Vehicles (MTV) to Iraq. Navistar Defense MTVs are based on the highly multipurpose International WorkStar severe-duty platform designed for both off and on-road operation, and is the backbone for the company s MaxxPro Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle. Peterbilt Motors Company received three prestigious Manufacturing Semi Elliptical Leadership Awards from Frost & Sullivan s Manufacturing Leadership Council in in recognition of the Plant s leadership in manufacturing and quality. Peterbilt received awards for the Dynamic Truck Test (DTT) program, the Power Distribution Vision Inspection System and the Self & Successive Inspection Project. The Peterbilt DTT program uses Six Sigma tools to identify the root causes of manufacturing non-conformities identified during a 100-mile test drive on randomly-selected production units. The testing is done with a focus on build quality and vehicle performance as they relate to electronic systems. Volvo Trucks Genuine Painted Parts Program offers customers and dealers the opportunity to UltraLight order more than three dozen different parts, including hoods and bumpers, for both the Volvo VNL and VNM models. Each genuine replacement part is painted with the same custom formula and high-quality Imron paint that is used at Volvo Trucks New River Valley facility in Dublin, Virginia. Volvo expects to ship all hood and bumper orders within 48 hours of request. Daimler Trucks North America celebrated the completion and official opening of its new High Desert Proving Grounds Transformer Body in Madras, Oregon in May The total High Desert Proving Grounds project required an $18.7 million investment by DTNA. Work began in June 2015 to clear the land with construction commencing in May 2016 by general contractor Kirby Nagelhout. The new proving grounds provide two distinct functions: firstly to merge real-world validation of DTNA s research and development and engineering initiatives and secondly to help bring new technologies to market faster than ever before.
