Sidney purchased Somerset Welding & Steel (SWS) in 1972 and grew it into the successful business it is today. The J&J brand is a direct reflection of his hard work, dedication to quality, and providing well for his employees. His generous spirit and same dedication continues today with the next Riggs generation. SWS became one of the first body manufacturers to receive the ISO 9001:2000 certification. To celebrate, Sidney hosted a party for his employees. He is pictured here with grandson Mike and son Bill. Today, Bill is the President of the company while Mike holds the position of Sr. Vice President. Tailgate latches will not lock over center or lock out. Possible cause may be that the tailgate linkage is too tight. Loosen the jam nut against the turnbuckle, back the turnbuckle off until tailgate linkage locks over center, and re-tighten jam nut against the turnbuckle. The Model 567 Heritage is configured with a 121-inch BBC and set-forward front axle (SFFA) the industry s most modern SFFA truck to optimize payloads and weight distribution. It can be spec d as a day cab or with a 72- or 80-inch sleeper. Volvo Trucks North America is adding a turbo compounding option for the Volvo D13 engine, bringing UltraLight even more power and fuel efficiency to one of the industry s most fuel-efficient engines. By converting wasted heat energy, the 13-liter D13 with turbo compounding improves fuel efficiency by up to 6.5 percent, while also delivering up to 100 extra lb.-ft. of torque for improved performance. Turbo compounding increases fuel efficiency by converting wasted heat energy from the exhaust into useable mechanical energy that is returned as extra torque to the crankshaft of the engine. This additional torque allows the Volvo D13 with turbo compounding to improve performance and efficiency at the same time. Western Star announced that it will begin offering the Eaton UltraShift Plus transmission Material Hauler in the 5700XE starting this fall. Eaton has been an important partner for Western Star for many decades and Western Star is proud to partner with them once again and offer the UltraShift Plus Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) in the the 5700XE. AMT s are gaining popularity in the industry for the many benefits they offer including increased fuel economy, lower maintenance costs, and reduced driver fatigue. The UltraShift Plus will add valuable flexibility to the 5700XE and allow it to operate with an AMT in several new applications that require PTOs and higher gross combination ratings. Welcomes New Distributors Three new distributors were recently added to J&J s authorized distributor program. These include Intercon, Triad, and Kahn Truck Equipment. Intercon and Triad will share certain counties in New York and New Jersey and primarily focus on municipal customers while Kahn Truck Equipment will promote and sell J&J products to both commercial customers and government agencies in Missouri. Recently, we ve been busy manufacturing several tube conveyors that will be used by a coal company at one of their processing plants. 6 TRUCKS BUILT YOUR WAY New York-based tree service company sent their Peterbilt chassis to J&J Truck Equipment and we installed a A custom, heavy-duty log body that is 102 wide, 96 high on first 17 then tapers down to 60 for remaining 5, 6 of body. The customer provided the Prentice loader with incorporated outriggers which was installed in the rear of the truck. Many extras such as full height access ladders front and back were added, aluminum diamond plate underbody tool boxes, hitch plate with 50-ton pintle hook, light packages, and lots more! This Ford F650 was upfitted with a steel, Knapheide cargo/stake body flatbed with a treated yellow pine floor. It also features a 26,000 lb. capacity Fassi crane which is located to the rear of the cab with base mounted controls on both sides. A Thieman Tuck- Away lift gate with a steel tread plate platform was installed at the rear of the flatbed. This unit is going to make a great work truck. 7 Truck Mounted Attenuator Completes Truck J&J Truck Equipment recently completed this steel Knapheide flatbed stake body for the PA Turnpike Commission. The star of the truck is the Scorpion mounted attenuator that is hydraulically powered and measures 13 long when fully extended, making it ideal for stationary and mobile construction zones. The aluminum boxes are filled with a moisture proof, aluminum honeycomb material. The boxes, together with the curved side rails, absorb the energy from an impacting vehicle. The aluminum boxes are painted with a bright yellow powder-coated finish, for visibility and lasting durability. A great way to protect operators, workers, truck, and equipment New Truck for Lumber Company Tuscarora Hardwoods, renowned for its exceptional hardwood forests, required a truck that would not only haul their lumber, but also protect the valuable wood from adverse weather conditions and road dirt. Using the customer provided Kenworth chassis, the staff at J&J Truck Equipment lengthened the frame and wheel base to accommodate a 26 long, 102 wide custom, heavy-duty, all aluminum flatbed body with under body ratchets to secure the valuable payload. The fully enclosed and retractable sliding tarp system covers this large load area and allows almost full side loading and unloading of the body, saving time while protecting the load.
