Yes, we build them! When we posted a picture of this J&J Off Road (OR) dump body on our Facebook page, we received lots of positive feedback. We also heard from some of our followers that said they did not realize that we build these type of bodies. We actually have been producing off road bodies for some time now and they come in various configurations depending on customers specifications and application. We can build anything from a 1 to 100 ton for all makes of off-road chassis including CAT, Komatsu, Dart, Western Star, Kenworth, etc. Additional optional components include heated bodies, auto assist tailgates, rock guard bumpers, and more. J&J Truck Equipment recently completed this heavy-duty work truck for Amerikohl Mining who will use it to repair and service equipment at their mining and quarry operations. The truck also features a 14,000 lb. capacity power rotation crane that can be extended to 30 feet. 2 A Letter from Joe O nce the ball drops and the New Year begins, many folks, myself included, begin to look toward Spring. In my professional life, the beginning of the New Year is a sign to prepare for J&J s busy season. As my team (more on them later) and I prepare for the busy season, we closely focus on one of our key activities: scheduling upcoming work. An accurate build schedule is necessary in any manufacturing company, however, accurate scheduling is especially critical during busy times. Love your dump bodies. Travis Gault Customer Photos Gault Trucking and Excavating, sent us this picture of their Peterbilt with a J&J Ultra Light (LWC UL) dump body. The company is located in Woodstock, VT. J&J is using a new algorithm to create and maintain the build schedule. The algorithm consists of available labor, material availability, estimated hours to build the unit, and chassis arrival. A miscalculation involving any of these items can cause the schedule to become unachievable. Accurate chassis arrival dates are critical to ensure your product is built on time. The more accurate we are with our schedules, the quicker we ll turn around your finished, quality product. If you become aware of a change in your chassis arrival date, please contact your salesperson and we ll make the necessary adjustments on our end. The build process is a partnership and we appreciate customer feedback on changes in arrival dates or anything else that may affect the schedule. In this issue of The Long Hauler, we will highlight our experienced team of foremen who lead the dedicated men and women building your J&J product. With over 274 years of combined truck and trailer knowledge, you can be sure we strive to build nothing but quality as we manufacture your new J&J body, trailer, tanker, and/or custom truck equipment. As I look forward to Spring, the start of baseball season, and golf, I also look forward to J&J s booming manufacturing season. 4 Ford Trucks latest generation of the available 6.7L Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V8 delivers 330 Medium Duty Aluminum horsepower and 750 lb.-ft. of torque the highest power and torque ratings ever in a Super Duty Class 3-5 chassis cab. The Power Stroke features a unique inverse-flow configuration, with the turbocharger between the cylinder heads on top of the block, and the exhaust manifold inboard and close to the turbocharger for fast air intake and more power. Freightliner Trucks new Cascadia model was selected for a recent 2017 GOOD DE- Material Hauler SIGN award. The prestigious competition selects product designs and graphics from more than 46 nations for design excellence. By combining innovative technology with ergonomic design, the new Cascadia s interior includes advancements in comfort, flexibility and safety. The exterior styling of the new Cascadia focuses on sleek aerodynamic features, offering Aero or AeroX exterior packages to maximize fuel efficiency. The onepane windshield and sloped hood offer superior visibility and the elliptical-shaped mirrors also contribute to fuel efficiency. Kenworth s T270 and T370 are now available with the Dana Spicer S140 series of single-reduction, Pressure Vacuum Tank single-drive axles, ranging from 16,000-lb to 21,000-lb gross axle weight rating. The new S140 axle design also features GenTech extra-quiet gearing to reduce noise levels by up to 12dB versus standard gear designs and provide a smoother vehicle ride. News Bytes From Our OEM Partners Heavy Construction Mack Trucks introduced a new split-shaft functionality for its Mack m- DRIVE HD automated manual transmission (AMT), giving customers with high-demand power take off (PTO) needs a fully integrated solution. The new feature is standard on all Mack mdrive HD AMTs. Avaliable in direct or overdrive configurations, the 13- and 14-speed Mack mdrive HD AMTs offer low reduction creeper gar ratios designed for easier startability on steep grades or when the truck is carrying a heavy load. With this improved startability customers are able to select a faster rear axle ratio, which decreases engine rpm at highway speeds, saving fuel as the truck travels between job sites. Half Round Navistar, Inc. International unveiled the International HV Series Mid-Range Diesel (MRD) at the World of Concrete 2018 North American Commercial Vehicle Show that includes a bridge formula truck for the concrete industry. The HV507 and HV607 models are powered by a choice of the Cummins B6.7 or L9 engines and have a 107 BBC dimension, which makes them shorter than the HV513 and HV613 models they complement. The new HV507 and HV607 models are available to order from your local International dealer today, and complete the transition from our previous International WorkStar models to the new HV Series. Peterbilt Motors Company announced that rear disc brakes are now available on Peterbilt Semi Elliptical Model 579 completing the standardization of disc brakes for this model. The inclusion of rear disc brakes further exemplifies Peterbilt s dedication to safety and superior drive performance through meeting its customers various application needs. Air disc brakes offer precise brake adjustment, better force distribution, even pad wear, and reduced brake fade. In addition to exemplary performance, air disc brakes are ideal for fleets that require light-weight, fuel efficient vehicles. In addition to the disc brake standardization, Peterbilt has made significant investments and commitments to safety, such as, adding standard options that include electronic stability control, Bendix Wingman and first in class lighting systems that increase visibility and headlamp coverage. Volvo Trucks introduced new LED headlights for VOLVO VHD series vocational trucks. The new UltraLight LED headlights will be offered as standard equipment on the VHD 300 daycab and VHD 400 regional sleeper models to help reduce eye strain, increase visibility and improve safety on roads and job sites. The new headlights also provide an estimated 10,000 operating hours, ten times greater than previous incandescent headlights. LED headlights mark the latest enhancement to the VHD series, which recently received a new interior to further enhance driver comfort and productivity, including all-led interior lighting. Western Star showcased several of its custom-built vocational trucks at World of Concrete s Bronze Lot. Show Material attendees Hauler were able to participate in the eighth annual Western Star Trucks Get Tough Challenge, which allowed contestants to drive their choice of Western Star trucks on a short course while being scored on a 50-point scale. One grand prize a 65-inch LED smart 4K Ultra HD TV was awarded to the top contestant, while prizes such as an ipad with 128GB storage capacity, Beats Studio3 Wireless headphones and an Amazon Echo Plus were awarded to daily winners.
