1 TracVision HD11 Motor Assembly Replacement Instructions These instructions explain how to replace the azimuth motor assembly in a TracVision HD11 system. Installation Steps 1. Gather Tools and Inspect Parts Disconnect the Power/Data Access the Motor Assembly Remove the Faulty Motor Assembly Install the New Motor Assembly Set the Belt Tension Complete the Procedure... 9 Who Should Perform this Procedure? 2 1 Gather Tools and Inspect Parts Before you begin, follow these steps to make sure you have everything you need to complete the replacement procedure. Figure 1 Antenna Components a. Unpack the box and carefully examine all of the supplied parts to ensure nothing was damaged in shipment. b. Gather the following tools. You will need these tools to complete the procedure. Radome #1 Phillips screwdriver Baseplate 7/16" socket/ratchet (with 1/4" drive) or nut driver 3/8" socket/torque ratchet (for setting 31 in-lbs of torque) Cover s Service Hatch (x2) 3/16" hex wrench 5/32" hex torque wrench (for setting in-lbs of torque) Figure 2 Gates 507C Sonic Tension Meter Sonic tension meter (Gates #507C) (see Figure 2) 3

3 2 Disconnect the Power/Data CAUTION For your own safety, disconnect power from all wired components before you begin. Figure 3 Cover Screws #6-32 Captive Screw and Washer (x6) a. Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, loosen the six #6-32 captive screws and washers securing the cable cover (see Figure 3). c. Remove the cable cover. d. 4 3 Access the Motor Assembly Determine Access Requirements If the antenna is installed on a pedestal, you can replace the azimuth motor assembly through one of the service hatches, but be sure to bring a light source, since the radome will keep your working area dark. However, if the antenna is installed on a flat surface, such as the deck, you will need to remove the radome, instead. Access Option A - Use a Service Hatch Using a 7/16" socket/ratchet (with 1/4" drive) or nut driver, unlock the 3 hex latches securing one of the hatches. Then open the hatch. Access Option B - Remove the Radome a. Using a 5/32" hex wrench, remove the 12 screws and washers securing the radome. Set the washers aside in a safe place and discard the screws. Later, you will reuse these washers with 12 new screws (supplied in the kitpack). b. Remove the radome and set it aside in a safe place. If you keep the radome topside, secure it with a lanyard to prevent it from falling overboard. In addition, do not place the radome on a hot steel deck the heat may warp the radome. 5 4 Remove the Faulty Motor Assembly a. Disconnect the azimuth motor cable (see Figure 7). b. Using a 3/16" hex wrench, remove the jacking screw and washer (see Figure 8). c. Using a 3/8" socket/ratchet, remove the four nuts/washers securing the azimuth motor assembly to the frame (see Figure 7). d. Extract the faulty azimuth motor assembly. 6 5 Install the New Motor Assembly a. Connect the azimuth motor cable to the new azimuth motor assembly (see Figure 9). b. Insert the new motor assembly. Be sure to orient the motor assembly so the jacking screw hole faces the PCB assembly, and place the azimuth motor belt over the drive pulley (see Figure 10). c. Reposition the motor assembly to tension the belt. Then install four new nuts and washers onto the mounting bolts (see Figure 9). d. Since you will fine-tune the belt tension later, only tighten the nuts enough so the motor assembly is secure but can be repositioned using moderate force. e. Reinstall the jacking screw and washer (see Figure 10). Then tighten the jacking screw just enough to add some additional tension to the belt. 7 6 Set the Belt Tension Align the Belt To properly align the belt on the drive, slowly rotate the antenna frame completely from one azimuth mechanical stop to the other, so it rotates completely through its 720 range. To ensure proper operation, the azimuth belt tension must be set precisely, as described below, until the tension at all 12 points is within the acceptable range. a. Rotate the antenna clockwise until it reaches the mechanical stop at the end of its azimuth range. Figure 12 Jacking Screw/Washer b. Configure the sonic tension meter to measure using the following properties: Unit of measure: Frequency (Hz) Mass: 4.1 g/m 1/4"-20 Jacking Screw/Washer Width: 25.0 mm/r Span: 161 mm c. To measure the belt tension, hold a sonic tension meter microphone one inch from the belt, midway between the stationary pulley and the drive (see Figure 11). Then pluck the belt (at the midway point) and note the current belt tension frequency. d. Adjust the jacking screw and remeasure the belt tension until the belt tension frequency measures between Hz (see Figure 12). e. Rotate the antenna clockwise 30 and repeat steps c and d. f. Repeat the steps above until the belt tension measures between Hz at each of the 12 points (see Figure 13). g. To secure the motor in place, tighten the motor nuts to approximately 31 in-lbs of torque. Figure 13 Belt Tension Measuring Points Motor Belt 4 8

8 7 Complete the Procedure Service Hatch Reinstallation If you removed a service hatch, reinstall the hatch and lock it into place. Radome Reinstallation If you removed the radome, follow the steps below to prepare the new screws and reinstall the radome. a. Apply a drop of the supplied Loctite 222MS to the threads of the radome screw inserts. b. Wipe away any excess Loctite 222MS to prevent contact with the radome surface. c. Mount the radome onto the baseplate. d. Resecure the radome using the 12 washers you removed earlier and 12 new 1/4"-20 screws (supplied in the kitpack). Only handtighten the screws for now. e. Once all screws have been started, tighten the screws/washers to approximately in-lbs of torque. Restore Connections a. Reconnect the power/data cable. Then reinstall the cable cover and secure it in place. b. Restore power to the TracVision system and to any wired components you removed power from earlier. The procedure is complete! 9
