1 Instructions for changing bearings on all B&C Technologies SP and HP models Tools and material required: 30 mm socket Socket handle with extension or air impact wrench Regular Screwdriver Phillips head screwdriver (#3) 2 threaded rods, M20x2.5 x 30in long Loctite type 242 (blue) Clear silicone sealant Hydraulic push off unit (optional), can be rented from B&C Straight edge to align pulley Metal hammer Torque Wrench or Torque control air impact wrench 1. Disconnect all power to the machine 2. Remove rear cover to the machine 3. Remove Belts by first loosening the bolts that hold the motor plate. This will loosen the tension of the belts and allow the belts to be easily removed. 4 places

2 4. Remove main Pulley by removing the 3 screws in the bushing and then using 2 of them in the threaded holes provided to push the pulley off the bushing. After the pulley is loose, the bushing can be slid off the shaft by wedging a flat head screwdriver in the slot to pry it apart. 5. Disconnect grease lines and drain line from bearing housing 6. Remove Bolt, Cover and Washer in the back of the cylinder

3 7. If not using the hydraulic push off tool, skip to step 10 The hydraulic tool can be rented from B&C. Contact us at for availability Rental is $ including shipping both ways. We do require an $ deposit that will be refunded when the tool is returned. Tool must be returned within 21 days. 8. Hydraulic tool method: Attach the removal disk, the round washer, and the small hydraulic cylinder to the shaft and center hub of the washer tub as shown. Make sure that the hydraulic cylinder is centered. The two bolts attaching the removal disk should be threaded in as deep as possible (holes are M14x2, 25mm deep).

4 9. Close the release valve on the hydraulic pump by turning it clockwise and slowly pump the pressure up to 10,000 psi maximum. Stay clear of the cylinder as it can come off with a loud pop and jump forward until it hits the shell front. Keep all fingers and other body part away. Also do not stand directly in front of the door opening. If the pressure reaches 10,000 psi and the cylinder still has not popped off, then keep the pressure on the shaft and tap the shaft at the rear of the machine with a metal hammer. 10. Remove all bolts holding the bearing housing to the shellback. Reinsert 3 of the bolts in the threaded holes of the housing flange. Also attach 2 threaded rods into 2 of the holes from where the housing bolts were removed. These will be used to slide the bearing housing to the back of the machine where it can be lifted off. Tighten the 3 bolts against the shell back to push the bearing housing out of it pilot hole. Then slide it back on the rods and lift it to the ground. The weight of the housing is over 100lbs so be careful and used two people if necessary

5 11. Removal of shaft from cylinder by Push off method: a. To remove the shaft from the cylinder, continue to engage the jack bolts. When the bearing housing is about 1 inch for the shell back, then the cylinder of the machine will come in contact with the inside of the shell back. Continue to tighten the jack bolt by alternating between all three until the shaft separates from the cylinder hub. A loud pop may sound when the shaft is released. It might be necessary to add spacers between the shell back and the jack bolt to keep the bolt from bottoming out against the bearing housing flange. 12. Clean off silicone from the pilot hole area and reapply as shown. Do not get any silicone in the area between the shell back and the bolt flange of the housing. 13. Make sure the O-rings are installed on the shaft grooves on the new shaft stub. Slide the new bearing housing onto the rods and push it up against the shell back

6 14. Lift the cylinder of the machine by placing a spacer at the bottom of the door opening and clamping the cylinder against the shell front at the top. A tool handle works well as a spacer, however, make sure that it does not fall down between the cylinder and the shell front. They are not fun to try to get out. 15. Apply loctite 242 (blue) to the bolts to keep them from vibrating loose and fasten the new bearing housing to the shell back by tightening the bolts to 250 ft-lb using a torque wrench or a torque control air impact wrench. 16. Install washer, cover plate and bolt in the back of the cylinder. Tighten to 300 ftlb while slowly rotating the cylinder.

7 17. Reattach the grease lined and the drain hose to the bearing housing 18. Install pulley onto shaft. Align with motor pulley using a straight edge 19. Install belts: tighten belts by pushing down on motor while tightening the motor plate bolts. Belts should have a 5/16 deflection when pushed at the center span by a force of 4.5 lbs. This will give a belt tension of 62 lbs 20. Attach rear cover to machine and restore power. After a few hours of run time, retorque all bolts to the torque values specified above.
