6 A WARNNG The unit must be permanently grounded. A grounding lug is provided. Failure to ground this unit an result in fire or eletrial shok ausing property damage, severe personal injury or death. A WARNNG Only eletri heater kits supplied by this manufaturer as desribed in this publiation have been designed, tested, and evaluated by a nationally reognized safety testing ageny for use with this unit. Use of any other manufatured eletri heaters installed within this unit may ause hazardous onditions resulting in property damage, fire, bodily injury or death. A WARNNG Proposition 65: This appliane ontains fiberglass insulation. Respirable partiles of fiberglass are known to the state of California to ause aner. 1.1 NSPECTON As soon as unit is reeived, it should be inspeted and noted for possible shipping damage during transportation. t is arrier's responsibility to over the ost of shipping damage. Manufaturer or distributor will not aept the laims from dealer for any transportation damage. 1.2 LMTATONS Refer to Fig. 2-2, 2-3 for unit physial data and to Table 7-1 for eletrial dat f omponents are to be added to a unit they must meet loal odes, they are to be installed at the dealer's and /or the ustomer's expense. Size of unit for proposed installation should be based on heat loss heat gain alulations made in aordane with industry reognized proedures identified by the Air onditioning ontrators of Ameri 2. NSTALLATON 2.1 PRE-NSTALLATON Before installation, arefully hek the following: 1. Unit should be installed in aordane with national and loal safety odes, inluding but not limit to ANSNFPS No. 7 or Canadian Eletrial Code Part 1, C22.1, loal plumbing and wastewater odes and any other appliable odes. 2. For rooftop installation, be sure the struture has enough strength to support the weight of unit. Unit should be installed on roof urb and leveled. 3. For ground level installation, a level slab should be used. 4. Condenser airflow should not be restrited. 5. On appliations when a roof urb is used, the unit must be positioned on the urb so the front of the unit is tight against the urb. 4
7 2.2 CLEARANCE All units require ertain learane for proper operation and servie. Refer to Table 2-1 for the learanes required for onstrution, serviing and proper unit operation. 2.3 RGGNG AND HANDNG Exerise are when moving the unit. Do not remove any pakaging until the unit is near the plae of installation. Rig the unit by attahing hain or able slings to the lifting holes provided in the base rails. Spreader bars, whose length exeeds the largest dimension aross the unit, MUST be used aross the top of the unit. A CAUTON Before lifting, make sure the unit weight is distributed equally on the rigging ables so it will lift evenly. Units may be moved or lifted with a forklift. Slotted openings in the base rails are provided for this purpose. A CAUTON All panels must be seured in plae when the unit is lifted. The ondenser oils should be proteted form rigging able damage with plywood or other suitable material. 12 3. DUCTWORK Dukwork should be made and sized by installer and in aordane with Air Manual from Conditioning Contrators of Ameria and loal odes. NOTE On dutwork exposed to outside air onditioning spae, use at least 2" of insulation and a vapor barrier. Flexible joint may be used to redue noise. These units are adaptable to downflow use as well as rear supply and return air dut openings. To onvert to downflow, use the following steps: 1. Remove the dut overs found in the bottom return and supply air dut openings. There are four (4) srews seuring eah dut over (save theses to use in step 2). 2. nstall the dut over (removed in step one) to the rear supply and return air openings. Seure with the four (4) srews used in steps one. 3. Seal dut overs with silione aulk. A losed return dut system shall be used. This shall not prelude use of eonomizers or ventilation air intake. Flexible joints may be used in the supply and return dut work to minimize the transmission of noise. A CAUTON When fastening dut work to the side dut flanges on the unit, insert the srews through the dut flanges only. DO NOT insert the srews through the asing. Outdoor dut work must be insulation and waterproofed. NOTE Be sure to note supply and return openings. Refer to Fig. 3 and 4 for information onerning rear and bottom supply and return air dut openings. 4. CONDENSATE DRAN CONNECTON Consult loal odes for speial requirements. To provide extra protetion from water damage, install an additional drain pan, provided by installer, under the entire unit with a separate drain line. Manufa turer will not be responsible for any damages due to the failure to follow these requirements. 4.1 NSTALL DRAN PPE 1. Use female NPT threaded fitting for outside onnetion and make sure that drain holes are not bloked. 2. nsulation may be needed for drain line to prevent sweating. 3. Drain pan has two drain onnetions on eah side to provide flexibility of onnetion and drainage. Make sure proper pith and plugging if seond onnetion is not used. 4. Use a sealing ompound on male pipe threads. nstall the ondensate drain line (NPT) to spill into an open drain. 1
13 Drain pan B Drain ommutator Drain onnetor tube Fig. 4-1 Removable Condensate Drain Pan And Removal Proedure 4.2 REMOVAL AND CLEAN THE DRAN PAN See above Figure.4-1 B, disonnet the Connetive Tube and Drain Commutator, srew off the two fixed srews of Drain Pan, and then along with the rail pull out the Drain Pan and Connetive Tube from the bottom of evaporator. Using a wet loth or water to wash out the drain pan arefully. 5. FLTERS Units are shipped without a filter or filter raks. t is the responsibility of the installer to seure a filter in the return air dutwork or install a filter/frame Kit. Filter must always be used and must be kept lean. When filter beome dirt laden, insuffiient air will be delivered by the blower, dereasing your units effiieny and inreasing operation osts and wear-and tear on the unit and ontrols. Filters should be heked monthly; this is espeially important sine this unit is used for both heating and ooling. 6. ELECTRCAL WRNG Field wiring must omply with the National Eletri Code (NEG) or Canadian Eletrial Code (CEC) and any appliable loal ordinane. A WARNNG Disonnet all power to unit before installing or serviing. More than one disonnet swith may be required to de-energize the equipment. Hazardous voltage an ause severe personal injury or death. 11
14 6.1 POWER WRNG 1. Proper eletrial power should be available at unit. Voltage tolerane should not be over 1% from rating voltage. 2. f any of the wire must be replaed, replaement wire must be the same type as shown in nameplate, wiring diagram and eletrial data sheet. 3. nstall a branh iruit disonnet of adequate size to handle starting urrent, loated within sight of, and readily aessible to the unit. 4. ELECTRC HEATER - f the Eletri Heater is installed, unit may be equipped with 3-6A. iruit breakers or fuse. These breaker{s} protet the internal wiring in the event of a short iruit and serve as a disonnet. Ciruit breakers installed within the unit do not provide over-urrent protetion of the supply wiring and therefore may be sized larger than the branh iruit protetion. Supply iruit power wiring must be 221 of minimum opper ondutors only. See Eletrial Data in this setion for ampaity, wire size and iruit protetor requirements. Supply iruit protetive devies may be either fuses or "HAOR" type iruit breakers. An 1-3/8" knokouts inside abinet is provided for onnetion of power wiring to eletri heater. Power wiring is onneted to the power terminal blok in unit eletri abinet. See Eletrial Heater nstallation nstrution for details. 6.2 GROUNDNG A WARNNG The unit must be permanently grounded. Failure to do so an result in eletrial shok ausing personal injury or death. Grounding may be aomplished by grounding metal onduit when installed in aordane with eletrial odes to the unit abinet. Grounding may also be aomplished by attahing ground wire{s} to ground lug{s} provided in the unit wiring ompartment. 6.3 CONTROL WRNG MPORTANT: Class 2 low voltage ontrol wiring SHOULD NOT be run in onduit with main power wiring and must be separated from power wiring, unless lass 1 wire of proper voltage rating is used. Low voltage ontrol wiring should be 18 AWG olor-oded. For lengths longer than 5ft, 16 AWG wire should be used. Two 7/8" holes an be used for ontrol wires going into the unit, one on left side and one at the bottom. Make sure, after installation, separation of ontrol wiring and power wiring has been maintained. Thermostat should be mounted on an inside wall about 58" from floor and will not be affeted by unonditioned air, sun and/or heat exposure. Follow the instrution arefully beause there are many wiring requirements. See Fig , Table

21 7. ARFLOW PERFORMANCE Airflow performane data is based on ooling performane with a oil and no filter in plae. 23 *The above airflow data for referene only. The air distribution system has the greatest effet on airflow. The dut system is totally ontrolled by the ontrator. For this reason, the ontrator should use only industry-reognized proedures. Heat pump systems require a speified airflow. Eah ton of ooling requires between 35 and 45 ubi feet of air per minute (CFM), or 4 CFM nominally. Dut design and onstrution should be arefully done. System performane an be lowered dramatially through bad planning or workmanship. Air supply diffusers must be seleted and loated arefully. They must be sized and positoined to deliver treated air along the perimerter of the spae. f they are too small for their intended airflow, they beome noisy. f they are not loated properly, they ause drafts. Reture air grilles must be properly sized to arry air bak to the blower. f they are too small, they also ause noise. The installers should balane the air distribution system to ensure proper quiet airflow to all rooms in the home. This ensures a omfortable living spae. An air veloity meter or airflow hood an give a reading of system CFM. When installation, installer should selet the air speed aording to the atual setting stati pressure. 33 8. SYSTEM OPERATON 8.1 COMPRESSOR CRANKCASE HEATER(FOR HP SYSTEM ONLY) Refrigerant migration during the off yle an result in a noisy start up. Add a rankase heater to minimize refrigeration migration, and to help eliminate any start up noise or bearing "wash out". All heaters are loated on the lower half of the ompressor shell. ts purpose is to drive refrigerant from the ompressor shell during long off yles, thus preventing damage to the ompressor during start-up. At initial start-up or after extended shutdown periods, make sure the heater is energized for at least 12 hours before the ompressor is started. (Disonnet swith on and wall thermostat off.} The rankase heater start-up onditions: f the outdoor ambient temp. is <37.4 F and the ompressor stopped for more than three hours or the unit powered on one more, the rank heater will be on. Crankase heater shut-down onditions: fthe outdoor ambient temp. is >44.6 F or the ompressor start running,the rank heater will be off. 8.2 Protetion Protetion for AC system Disharge temperature protetion {for the unit whih adopt Toshiba ompressor): When disharge temp. is >275 F,the ompressor will be off, When disharge temp. is <194 F,the ompressor will start running. Compressor keeps running, when T4 is> 28.4 of and T3 is< 32 of and last for 4 minutes; 2. Compressor keeps running, when T4 is< 28.4 of and T3 is< 32 of and last for 5 minutes. *When defrosting ations, if the eletrial heater kit is installed, the unit would deliver the Aux. heater operation signal to the eletrial heater kit. When JUMP swith is set to "": Compressor keeps running, when T3 is < 32 of and last for 3 minutes. Ending onditions of defrost mode: The mode will end if one of following onditions is satisfied: 1.
