1 Tandridge Nhw Bulletin 18 This message has specifically been sent to Coordinators and not other members of the community or your scheme members. Please share as you feel is appropriate using the Share button below. Tandridge Neighbourhood Watch Newsletter Bulletin 18 August 16 th August 29 th 2018 Dear Neighbourhood Watch Members The summer is not yet over and many of you are still going away on holidays. So we want to remind you to keep your homes secure, as there is nothing worse than returning from hard earned vacation to find your house has been burgled. You will read of a number of cases in this Bulletin. Burglars will look for easy targets, so it doesn't take a lot of effort to make your home less attractive to thieves. Simple steps like keeping doors and windows locked and having a light on a timer switch can go a long way to deterring burglars. This also applies to those staying at home as well. Many burglaries happen when people are at home during the day, with thieves only taking a few seconds to nip in through open and unlocked doors to steal valuables like phones, tablets and even car keys to steal cars parked on driveways. People with UPVC doors are particularly vulnerable to this as they often shut the door and pull the handle up, believing the door is secure. However, thieves can use a simple lever through the letterbox to open the door from the inside, so we'd urge people to lock their doors with a key, whether they are at home or out and about.

2 It s also that time of year when country shows and fetes are in full swing and so are criminal opportunists. Please remember do not leave any item of value on show and make sure all vehicles are locked. Finally, we recently appealed for the whereabouts of a set of bespoke wooden gates (valued at 4,500), that were stolen in Tandridge. Within no time at all, it will have become obvious to the thief that this particular booty was now just too hot to handle, lo and behold, they were then found in a skip for us to collect. Dan Gutierrez Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Inspector If your area is not referred to below it is because we have not been informed of the crime or it has not been affected by reported crime in the categories below. Feedback from you will help to achieve the most appropriate circulation of information.
