2 ACO MultiDrain MD System Product Overview Introduction to ACO MultiDrain MD System Throughout the world, the ACO brand is recognised as a leading supplier in the design, development and manufacture of surface water drainage. An extensive portfolio offers the market quality solutions for every application, whether light domestic or heavy duty use. The group has over 40 years experience of channel drainage installation, with more than 5 million metres of ACO products installed in the UK - and more than 100 million metres worldwide. Building on this expertise, ACO MultiDrain MD System benchmarks a new approach in the planning, delivery and installation of general purpose channel drainage systems. Designed to provide an effective solution for a wide variety of applications, the ACO MultiDrain MD System maximises functionality whilst using the minimum number of components. The ACO MultiDrain MD System is available in both sloping and constant depths and has a range of channel widths; 100mm, 150mm and 200mm. The channel unit forms the main component of the system which can then be combined with a grating to suit the required application. You can choose from a range of traditional and discreet slot drainage gratings, solid covers and cross footpath drainage units to ensure a wide variety of applications are catered for. The system s gratings are fitted with ACO Drainlock, a bar-less locking device which reduces the risk of blockages and improves hydraulic capacity. Manufactured from polymer concrete, ACO MultiDrain MD System is tough and robust and provides high chemical resistance. The lightweight design ensures quick and easy installation. As standard, channels are manufactured with UltraSTEEL protective edge rails. The UltraSTEEL rails, with their unique patented design, provide optimum channel protection and improved bonding between channel sides and the surrounding pavement material. The system is fully certificated and CE marked to BS EN 1433:2002 from Load Class A 15 pedestrian areas, up to and including Load Class D 400 suitable for parking of all types of road vehicles*. *Not suitable for carriageways of roads. Maximum functionality using minimum components 2 ACO MultiDrain MD System simplifies the specification of drainage channels. Simply select the appropriate channel depth and the grating to suit your application. The ACO MultiDrain MD System accessories such as the sump unit, end cap and gully have been designed to be used with any channel in the system. All of which reduces the number of components required simplifying installation, specification and logistics. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS All materials used in the manufacture and packaging of this system are 100% recyclable. In using the latest finite element analysis design packages, ACO have ensured minimum materials have been used for maximum performance. By minimising the amount of material used in the manufacture of this system, the environmental impact is kept to a minimum. Not only has the product been developed with the environment in mind, the whole packaging and distribution of the product has been optimised to help meet your sustainable construction targets. The lightweight design not only aids installation but reduces carbon emission linked with the transportation of this product. 3 Applications ACO MultiDrain MD System can provide a channel drainage solution for many applications by simply selecting the appropriate channel depth and grating type. The off-set grating can be used as a solution for threshold drainage and also against buildings eliminating difficult installations. The gratings are suitable for BS EN 1433: 2002 Load Class C 250 and D 400 applications. ACO Brickslot gratings are available for 100mm and 150mm wide channels, in both galvanized or stainless steel. Services ducts The ACO MultiDrain MD System includes a solid cover grating which when applied to the main channel unit provides a secure shallow trench with easy access to services and cabling. Cross footpath drainage Where roof drainage from down pipes is required to cross the footpath into the road gutter, a range of down pipes connectors, kerb outlets and shallow channels are available within the ACO MultiDrain MD System range. This system is only available in the ACO MultiDrain M100D System. Threshold drainage The ACO MultiDrain MD System can be used to provide unobtrusive drainage around building entrances, compliant with the building regulations (England and Wales Part M, Scotland Section 4, Northern Ireland Part R). Simply select the appropriate grating to meet your aesthetic requirements. 3

4 ACO MultiDrain MD System Product Overview System overview ACCESSORIES AND OPTIONS Multifunctional end cap The ACO MultiDrain MD System has a single plastic endcap for each channel width, which can be used for closing or as an outlet for all channels within the range. Standard features include outlet connection for Ø110mm (for M100D channels) and Ø160mm (for M150D and M200D channels) U-PVC pipes and cutting guides for easy height adjustment. Sump Unit ACO MultiDrain MD System sumps provide a compact outlet for all channels within the system. Standard features include improved channel connection detail, silt bucket and triple lipped seals for watertight connections to Ø110mm and Ø160mm U-PVC pipes. Outlet and access points The ACO Universal Gully can be used with all ACO MultiDrain MD channels to provide an outfall. Standard features include ductile cast iron hinged cover, silt bucket and roddable foul air trap for connection to Ø160mm U-PVC pipe. Anti-shunt prevents grating movement once installed. ACO Drainlock gratings - this bar-less locking device improves hydraulic capacity and provides for quick and simple installation of gratings. 4 Sealant groove for simple watertight installations. V shaped channel bore improves speed of water flow and promotes self cleansing. Male and female channel connections to aid fast installation. Improved knockout for connection to Ø110mm (for M100D channels) and Ø160mm (for M150D and M200D channels) U-PVC pipes. 5 Cross footpath drainage unit A range of downpipe connectors for the 75mm and 100mm deep channels are available, along with two styles of kerb outlets for use with bullnose and HB kerbs. These accessories are suitable for use with the ACO MultiDrain M100D system only. Gratings ACO MultiDrain MD System has a wide variety of gratings available that include cast iron, stainless steel and plastic slotted gratings, heelguard options, solid covers and brickslot gratings. Protective UltraSTEEL galvanised edge rails for improved strength and bonding between channel and surface materials. Also available in stainless steel. Minimum concrete level markings to aid installation. Strong and light weight polymer concrete design improves stability and anchors product into concrete surround. The ACO MultiDrain MD system is available in three channel widths; 100mm, 150mm and 200mm. LOAD CLASSES A 15 Pedestrian, cycleways and domestic drives. B 125 Pedestrian precincts, light vehicles, private car parks and drives. Internal channel marking for easy identification once installed. The appropriate channel to suit your application, which will depend on the length to outfall, the gradient and the design rainfall intensity, can be selected from the tables in the ACO MultiDrain MD System technical brochure The shallow channels in the range can drain between 50m 2 and about 1000m 2. These units particularly benefit from the bar-less ACO Drainlock grating fixing, which allows unrestricted water flow. For full installation details, see the ACO MultiDrain MD System technical brochure or download recommendations from In summary, the ACO MultiDrain MD System channels, M100D, M150D and M200D, can be installed with a minimum of 150mm (200mm for a Load Class D 400 installation) bed and haunch of 25N/mm2 compressive strength concrete. The surrounding pavement should finish nominally 3 to 5mm above the grating level to prevent damage from rollers and ensure positive drainage. Concrete pavement slabs must include full movement expansion joints to prevent compressive stresses on the sides of the channels. *Further information on ACO MultiDrain MD System hydraulic and installation details can be found in the technical brochure.
