3 ACO Clara Technology description The ACO Clara sewage treatment plant consists of a mechanical pre-treatment part and a biological compartment. The biological part of the ACO Clara consists of an activation tank and a built-in final sedimentation tank. Surplus sludge is stored in the storage area, which in fully loaded plants is capable of holding about days capacity. The mechanical pre-treatment part is formed of a sedimentation tank with a high buffer area volume. The sewage water enters the ACO Clara unit via the inlet pipe and flows into the buffer area of the common buffer and storage tank. Settlable solids fall to the bottom of the tank and floating matter is caught by a scum board, thus protecting the raw sewage air lift pump against blockage. Hydraulic peaks at the inlet of ACO Clara sewage treatment plants are absorbed in the buffer area. The pre-treated water is then pumped at a uniform flow rate from the buffer area into the biological part of the plant. Hydraulic peak equalising considerably increases the stable purification efficiency. The activation tank is aerated by micro-bubble aeration. The water goes from the activation tank into the final sedimentation tank, which enables treated water to be separated gravitationally from activated sludge. The treated water flows out of the sewage treatment plant through the outlet connection. The activated sludge falls to the bottom of the final sedimentation tank, from where it is pumped back as return sludge and also partly into the storage area as surplus sludge. The final sedimentation tank is optionally equipped with a skimmer for the automatic collection and removal of floating sludge from the water surface. This device can reduce maintenance work during operation. The pumping of sewage water and return and surplus sludge is achieved using air lifts in the ACO Clara. These air lifts need no maintenance and are resistant to clogging. The hydraulic capacity of the air lifts is continuously adjustable, even at very low flow rates. This helps to ensure a uniform purification process and thus achieve stable purification efficiency. 7 ACO Clara Standard/Light Adapters of ACO Clara Increasing the installation depth is possible without any expensive construction work. The main tanks of the AC Clara can be extended with adapters, enabling the height of the main tank to be increased quickly and easily. The access cover(s) is (are) identical, either for use with the main tank or with the adapter(s). The adapter position is secured by screws. 11 ACO Clara Season ACO Clara Season ACO Clara Season is based on the Clara Plastic/Concrete technology and it is designed for all applications with big differences in the loading during a year when the biological load is too low to be able to feed the activation of a standard unit in the out-of-season period. These applications can be hotels at the seaside, hotel resorts, or hotels in the mountains as well as schools, cottage areas, and summer camps. ACO Clara Season is going to be always designed by ACO Clara team individually according to: Maximal hydraulic and biological load in full season period Minimal hydraulic and biological load out of season period Characteristic of the period between periods ACO Clara Season waste water treatment plants can operate in several operating modes. 1. 14 ACO CLARA Installation depth The ACO Clara waste water treatment plants are designed as a self-supporting plastic/concrete tank for installation in a ground bed without any concrete encasement up to depth of inlet pipe 4 m. The static resistance against ground pressure is depend on a type and size of the of the ACO Clara unit. The concrete encasement shall be carried on in cases if the depth of inlet pipe is higher than Hmax. 15 Additional equipment Automatic removing of surplus sludge To reduce the amount of maintenance work it is possible to equip the ACO Clara with a control unit which enables surplus sludge to be removed automatically and floating sludge in the final sedimentation tank to be removed automatically. START Pack If the plant cannot be filled with activated sludge upon start-up, we recommend using the START Pack, which contains substances that support fast formation of organic components in the plant, which significantly speeds up the initiation of the treatment process. When added regularly, it helps to keep the biological system of the wastewater treatment plant in excellent condition.
