5 1 General Information on Application of ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o. o. Preinsulated Tubes and Fittings Preinsulated tubes and fittings by ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o. o. are to be used in the construction of thermal distribution networks, whose function is to transmit a heating medium from its source up to the reception point. Preinsulated tubes and fittings are resistant to the medium of a maximal thirty- year working temperature of 152 o C. The function of preinsulated tubes and fittings manufactured by ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o. o. is to transmit a heating medium, characterised either by high or low working parameters, hot water or other media used for process or construction purposes. Preinsulated tubes and fittings by ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o. o. are composed of a steel line tube coaxially fitted in a casing pipe made of hard polyethylene of high density (PED) and a layer of thermal insulation either standard or standard plus, made of rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) filling up the space between the pipes. ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o. o. preinsulated pipes, used in the transmission of hot water, are manufactured within the nominal diameters of 20 to 1000 mm, in standard lengths of 6 or 12 m. Preinsulated products with galvanized steel carrier pipe are 6 m long, while the diameter range varies between 20 and 200 mm. The ends of preinsulated pipes and fittings are not insulated over a length of mm at diameters op to 200 mm, and over a length of mm for diameters 250 mm and more. ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o. o. preinsulated pipes and fittings meet the requirements set down by standards PN-EN 253, PN-EN- 448, PN-EN 488, PN-EN The suitability of the construction element referred to as ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o. o. preinsulated pipes and fittings with galvanised steel carrier pipe for buried heat networks is confirmed by Technical Certificate of Approval No AT/ expiring on 17 August, 2005, and issued by the Centre for Systems Engineering Research and Development INSTAL, Warsaw. 2 Properties of Materials Used in Preinsulated Pipes and Fittings by ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o.o. CARRIER PIPE Carrier pipe is a certified steel seamless pipe manufactured in compliance with standard from steel R-35, or in accordance with DIN-1629, steel grade St 37.0, or steel grade P235G, or certified seamed steel pipe in compliance with DIN-1626, steel St 37.0, or per PN-EN and PN-EN from steel P235G. If these pipes are to be used in the transmission of potable hot water, then seamless pipe is to be used, manufactured in compliance with steel grade R-35, for steel grade St 37.0 material according to DIN-1629, or for pipes from steel grade P235G per PN-EN galvanised in accordance with PE-EN upper yield stress 235 MPa; tensile strength MPa; density 7850 kg/m 3 ; guaranteed tightness 5 MPa 1

6 To increase the adhesion of rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) to steel pipe, the external surface of the steel pipe is shot blasted till it attains grade one cleanliness. Pipe ends are bevelled and ready to be welded. TERMAL (EAT) INSULATION Insulation is made of rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) homogenously filling the space between the pipes over the total length and in compliance with standard PN-EN CO 2 (no freon) CFC thermal conductivity coefficient λ w/mk 0,0302 0,0268 minimal core mass density kg/m 3 60,00 60,00 radial compression strength MPa 0,30 0,30 thermal resistance ºC 142,00 152,00 CASING PIPE Casing pipe is made in compliance with standard PN-EN- 253 in hard density polyethylene (PED): density 950 kg/m 3 ; upper yield stress 19 MPa; ultimation at rupture at least 350%; expected life at least 50 years The external surface of polyethylene pipe is activated by induced electrons. 3 Pipe Insulation Moisture Detection System ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o. o. preinsulated pipes and fittings can be equipped with any system detecting PUR insulation moisture. Such a system comprises wires embedded in the insulation layer. The system signals moisture spots in any place of the pipeline. 4 General Principles of Laying Preinsulated Pipe in Soil Preinsulated pipes and fittings are laid directly in ground in narrow trenches on a sand subgrade at least 10 cm thick. Prior to welding steel carrier pipes, in each common joint or a heat shrinkable one, a sleeve has to be pushed on, which will protect the joint heat insulation. Once the pipes have been welded and leak tests are over, a heat insulation layer has to be laid down and the joint tightness tested. A completed preinsulated pipeline is then subject to a technical acceptance, and then is backfilled with sand up to 10 cm above the upper pipe surface. oth the subgrade and backfilling layers have to be compacted, so that the line is placed in homogenous conditions. Once the backfilling layer has been stabilised, the remaining part is replenished with virgin soil. A minimal thickness of the covering layer is 40 cm. 2

Specifications of preinsulated products should state carrier pipe steel grade (R-35 or St 37.0, and P 235G seamless or seamed), type of thermal insulation, type of moisture detection embedded system or its lack, and for pipes their length and quote symbols used throughout the catalogue. 3

8 6 Quality Assurance System ZPU Międzyrzecz Sp. z o. o. preinsulated materials and products manufactured presently are based on the Integrated Quality Management System *Environment, compliant with PN-ISO- 9001:2001 and Certificate No JSA-124/3/2008 issued by the Polish Centre for Research and Certification (Polskie Centrum adań i Certyfikacji), Warsaw.
