15 1. General SIDELEDGE PASSENGER TABLE - ADJUSTMENT/TEST A. This section gives the procedure to adjust the spring tension in the sideledge passenger table, Executive table (containing two springs) and the Slimline table (containing one spring) to vary the amount of force required to deploy the tables. 2. Sideledge Passenger Table Spring Tension Test A. Tools and Equipment Refer to Equipment/Furnishings - General for Tools and Equipment. (1) Tools and Equipment Extech Force Gauge Model or equivalent. (2) Special Consumables None. (3) Reference Material None B. Prepare the Airplane (1) Put protective tape over the area of the table that is in contact with the gauge. (2) Open the sideledge passenger table lid and manually deploy the table. Airplanes thru Incorporating SB680A and Airplanes and On use a handle to deploy and stow the passenger table. (a) (b) (c) Make sure that the springs are attached and are under tension. Make sure that the table operates freely and that the internal mechanism is free of unwanted material. Stow the table completely. Airplanes thru Incorporating SB680A and Airplanes and On use a handle to deploy and stow the passenger table. C. Test the Sideledge Passenger Table Spring Tension. The table must not be deployed and stowed more than once per minute. This will overheat the damper and change the performance until the damper can cool down to an ambient temperature. (1) On the Extech Force Gauge Model , select the POWER switch to "PEAK" position. (a) Make sure that "LB" is selected on the force gauge. (b) Select "ZERO" on the Force Gauge before taking any new measurements. (c) Install the hook attachment to the force gauge. (2) Attach the hook to the inger slot on the table. Refer to Figure 501, and Figure 502. (3) Measure the Sideledge Passenger Table Peak Deploy Force as follows: (a) With a force gauge attached, slowly raise the table to the highest vertical position. Stop before the 90 degree break over point. Refer to Figure 503, and Figure 504. Avoid sharp accelerations during the pull test Page 501

16 (b) Record the value indicated by the force gauge as Peak Deploy Force Value 1. Refer to Table 501 for Forward or Aft Table Deploy Force Values. 1 If the recorded peak deploy force value is out of tolerance with Table 501, adjust the sideledge passenger table spring tension(s). Refer to Adjust the Sideledge Passenger Table Spring Tension in this section. The Executive table style has two adjustment springs. The Slimline table style has one adjustment spring. (c) (d) a If the table spring tension(s) was/were adjusted, do steps 2.C.(1) thru 2.C.(3). Record this value as Peak Deploy Force Value 1. Stow the table completely. Do steps 2.C.(1) thru 2.C.(3) two more times and record Peak Deploy Force Value 2 and Peak Deploy Force Value 3. The table must not be deployed and stowed more than once per minute. This will overheat the damper and change the performance until the damper can cool down to an ambient temperature. (e) (f) Calculate the average of the three peak deploy force values using the formula as follows: 1 Add (Peak Deploy Force Value 1) + (Peak Deploy Force Value 2) + (Peak Deploy Force Value 3) together. a The sum is called the Total Peak Deploy Force Sum. 2 Divide the Total Peak Deploy Force Sum by three. a The resulting number is called the Peak Deploy Force Value Average. Compare the calculated Peak Deploy Force Value Average with the Peak Deploy Force Values Average Values given in Table 501. Table 501. Sideledge Table Peak Deploy Force Tolerances Table Style Peak Deploy Force Values Peak Deploy Force Value Average Executive 8.0 Pounds, + 1 Pound, - 2 Pounds (35.6 N, N, N) Slimline 4.0 Pounds, + 2 Pound, - 0 Pound (17.8 N, N, N) NOTE 1: NOTE 2: NOTE 3: Calculated average of (Peak Deploy Force Value 1) + (Peak Deploy Force Value 2) + (Peak Deploy Force Value 3). The Left and Right Peak Deploy Force Values must be within 1 Pound (4.4 N) of each other. You may need to disable the torsion spring to get a nominal value within the tolerance for the Slimline. (g) (h) It is necessary to do the Test the Sideledge Passenger Table Spring Tension for the other Executive or Slimline table styles in order to compare the values as given in Table 501. Remove the protective tape from the tables that have been tested Page 502

17 3. Sideledge Passenger Table Spring Tension Adjustment A. Adjust the Sideledge Passenger Tables: Executive Table (Two Springs). Adding tension increases spring assistance, making the table easier to lift. Reducing tension decreases spring assistance, making the table more dificult to lift. (1) Add tension to the Executive table (two springs) as follows: (a) Access the executive table and the springs as follows: 1 Pull the table shroud inboard to remove the table shroud. (b) Lift the table up about half way to three quarters to help release some spring tension. 1 Place a block of wood under the table to hold the table in place. (c) Locate the table spring ends that are inserted into the horizontal axle. The table spring ends are located near the middle table block of executive table. Shrink wrap is placed around table springs to protect the springs and table. 1 The shrink wrap may need to be cut back slightly to access spring ends. WARNING: Take care when pulling the spring end from the horizontal axle as the spring is under tension. The spring can uncoil quickly and cause damage to the person or the table. (d) Firmly grasp one spring end and pull spring end from horizontal axle with a pair of pliers. 1 Do not release spring end. Spring tension is added one revolution at a time and is done to one spring at a time. If one spring uncoils, both springs will need to be uncoiled and tension added to both springs equally. (e) (f) (g) (h) With the spring end irmly grasped with pliers, lift the table until the spring insertion hole in the rod turns one revolution. Put the spring end back into the horizontal axle. Lower the table to the previous location on the wood block. Repeat steps 3.A.(1)(d) thru 3.A.(1)(f) for the second spring. Make sure that both springs are adjusted equally, making sure that both springs have the same amount of tension. (i) Remove the block of wood. (j) Test the Sideledge Passenger Table Spring Tension.
