1 September 4, 2009 TITLE MODEL 1A162/TCD6754 PROPELLER SERVICE INFORMATION UPDATE TO: FAA-Approved Propeller Repair Stations, Aircraft Manufacturers, Owners and Operators EFFECTIVITY Model 1A162 Propeller, and the McCauley Fixed Pitch Propeller Service Manual. The information transmitted by Service Letter should be added to the McCauley Fixed Pitch Propeller Service Manual until the next revision is issued. REASON To provide service information for the model 1A162 propeller. DESCRIPTION The following service information for the 1A162 model propeller should be added to the McCauley Fixed Pitch Propeller Service Manual. The instructions in the manual apply to the 1A162/TCD6754 propeller except for the differences listed in the following paragraphs. 1. Basic Information: A. The following table provides additional information for the 1A162 model propeller. The propeller is approved for installation on the Cessna model 162 'Skycatcher' model airplane equipped with the Teledyne Continental Motors 0-200D model engine. The diameter range for this propeller installation is 66 to 67 inches ( to mm) with 54 inches pitch (standard). 2 C. Propeller weight (including part number B-7925 Spacer) at maximum diameter (67 inches/ mm) is 24.4 pounds ( kg). D. The propeller is installed with bolt kit B Torque installed bolts 25 to 30 ft. pounds ( to N-m) torque (dry). E. Propeller Installation. WARNING: BE SURE THAT MAGNETO IS GROUNDED BEFORE TURNING PROPELLER OR CONNECTING EXTERNAL POWER. (1) Rotate the engine crankshaft so the number 1 cylinder is Top Dead Center (TDC) on its compression stroke. NOTE: When number 1 cylinder is TDC, the crankshaft finger with the flat spot will be positioned straight up at the 12 O'clock position. (2) Position the propeller on the engine crankshaft so the number 1 blade is clocked 60 degrees in the direction of engine rotation from TDC. NOTE: The number 1 blade will be located at approximately the 10 O'clock position when viewed from in front of the engine looking aft. 2. Hub Dimensions: A. Hub thickness inches (69.85 mm). B. Spacer thickness inches ( mm). C. Dowel engagement in propeller spacer inch (16.5 mm). D. Distance from the hub face (engine side) to blade centerline inches (35.56 mm) (nominal). E. The propeller installation is designed for the Teledyne Continental Motors Model O-200D engine using six 3/8 inch mounting bolts. 3. Blade Dimensions: A. 5 C. Propeller Blade Section Angles NOTE: The model 1A162 propeller is only approved for service with a 54 inch pitch. TABLE 3. Like stations on both blades are not to vary by more than 0.20 degrees. The 1A162 propeller uses a Blackmac style curved face airfoil and inspections of the propeller blade angles should use the two points favoring trailing edge method. D. Propeller balance weights are to be installed by following the instructions in the Standard Procedures Manual, Section , Track and Balance. 4. Paint Specification A. 10 AIRWORTHINESS LIMITATIONS 1. Scope A. This section outlines the mandatory replacement times and inspection intervals for propeller components considered to be life limited, or to require monitoring through scheduled inspections. This section applies to items such as fatigue components and structures that are considered a part of the certification process. NOTE: The Airworthiness Limitations section is FAA Approved and specifies maintenance required under Parts and of the Code of Federal Regulations, unless an alternative program has been FAA approved. 2. Definition A. This section contains two paragraphs as outlined below. (1) Inspection Time Limits describes and lists components that are required to be inspected at specified intervals. The intervals specified represent the maximum time allowable between inspections. (2) Replacement Time Limits describes and lists life limited components that are to be replaced at a specific time. 3. Inspection Time Limits A. General (1) There are no inspection time limits for the model 1A162/TCD6754 propeller. (a) Refer to Service Bulletin 137[X] for McCauley's mandatory specified time between overhaul (TBO) and long term storage inspection requirements. 4. Replacement Time Limits A.
