1 Gary & Susan Premech Hello everyone, W e are now well into the new year with January passing by us like a flash. Already we have seen some of our members able to put some kilometers on their bikes. At the January 25 th Sunday breakfast, Kim Coubrough and Allan Orr drove in from Airdrie and although the road was good driving in, once they came down the hill at Fox Hollow they were greeted with patches of ice. Thankfully they took it easy and were able to keep their bikes upright. Hopefully spring comes early and the rest of us will be able to join them. Our Rider Education Coordinator has started to look at dates for the upcoming MFA, ARC, and other courses that are offered and should have things setup in the next few months. There is also talk about another Bunko night in the near future. The information for the Region J Rally 2015 in Cranbrook, BC from August 1 st to 3 rd is available at the following link. Also, there is the Reno Rendezvous June and although we know of a number of members that will be attending, we have only received a couple of s confirming your attendance. Susan received her Senior Master Tour Rider Level. Well done! Sue Chilcott and Richard Sharp both won Door Prizes of sunglasses provided by Tracy Boyda January 50/50 Winner Terry Burrill Notes 1. Gary shared a story about the importance of sharing medical information with riding partners such as if you have an epipen, where it is and what you are allergic to. Also relevant would be use of inhalers, nitroglycerin, diabetes meds and location of same on your bike. 2. Bob Van nes would like member input about weekly rides, perhaps scheduling only two rides per month. Also suggestions for destinations and activities. 3. Updated GPS maps for the integrated Honda Gold Wing device may be available from GPS Central in Calgary.

3 Wing Wag February 2015 Page 3 FUN!!!! Fun, Activities that are Enjoyable. Verbal Wit. Pleasantly Entertaining. (Webster s Dictionary) Fun is the reason we come out and Participate in our gatherings! The above definition puts into simple words what we are trying to accomplish. We all need to have fun at our Chapter Activities! Even the Education Seminars can and should be FUN. I know we are all having a great time with our Chapters and I know we are all appreciative of the Officers working to make our Gatherings so much fun. Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to improve our activities. The Bike Show season is under way and we have been very progressive in our efforts at the shows. I would like to thank the Alberta and British Columbia Chapters for their efforts and all the hard work involved to organize a booth at the shows. I know that even with all the work we still had time to admire all the new bikes and chrome. I hope all had a great time. This year is the 40 th anniversary of the Gold Wing motorcycle. Honda Canada has produced an advertising handout extolling the GWRRA Association here in Canada. Honda is distributing the Handout in the Gold Wing Booths at the Motorcycle shows across Canada. This is a great plus for us in Gold Wing Road Riders Association. The exposure we will get to new Prospective members will lead us to a larger membership and MORE Friends. Next month I hope to have our Region Rider Education group bring you an article on the Happenings in the Region. I hope we see you this summer on the Road or at our Region Rally in Cranbrook BC. Reno Rendezvous: June Check out the website (renorendezvous.org) to book your accommodations and register for the event. We hope to have a large contingent from the Calgary Chapter Region J Rally: This year s rally will not be hosted by a single chapter, but rather all chapters will be contributing towards this years rally. Dates, locations and venues have all been set. This years rally will take place August 1, 2 & 3 in Cranbrook, BC. The host hotel is The Heritage Inn and the host campground (only a 15-minute walk away) is the Cranbrook Mount Baker RV Park. Both locations have a bank of rooms and sites blocked off for a few months on a first come first serve basis. Since almost all attendees will be visitors to Cranbrook, blocked rooms and sites could go quickly, so book early. Following is a link containing further details and registration information. High Mileage Challenge for 2014: Standings and Plaque will be presented at the March monthly meeting. Courses: A MFA course is being planned for May 9th, 2015 from 8:30am to 4:30pm at the Calgary Co-op on North Hill (Community Room). The cost for this course is $35 per member, and is only available for GWRRA members. A Trike course on May 23. The classroom portion would be on the evening of the 22nd. An ARC course and a 2-Up course open to GWRRA members only from May at a cost of $35 per member. Class size for each is limited to 6 bikes. A Trailering course is planned for the evening of June 5th, and all day June 6th. Day 1 we left Calgary in late June with my 1982, my son s 1983, and my brother s 1984 vintage Gold Wings. We rode to Cardston with a stop in Vulcan. Day 2 took us to Waterton, Frank Slide and ended in Radium, BC. On day 4 my brother and his wife left Golden, BC and returned to Sylvan Lake, AB and work. Meanwhile my son and I carried on to Kamloops, BC. Along the way we stopped at the Dreamcycle Museum in Sorrento and had a great We ended day 3 in Golden, BC. time. The owner stayed open late to show us more stuff. Day 4 ended with us in Kamloops where we ended up spending 2 nights as my rear (Continued on page 7)

Day 6 we rode from Kamloops on Route 99 to Island to Tofino, BC another beautiful highway even though the weather was still wet. Day 10 we rode back across the island and down to Victoria, BC where finally got some sunshine. In Victoria we had to replace the rear brakes on my son s bike as they were worn out. Day 11 after checking out Mile 0 we rode to the ferry and into Vancouver. Day 12 we picked up parts to rebuild my son s rear caliper as the brakes were dragging, we rode on to Hope, BC and did the rebuild at our hotel. Whistler, BC what a nice ride. Day 7 took us from Whistler to Gibson's, BC in the rain. Day 8 found us riding all day in the rain on the Sunshine Coast highway to Lund and back down to take the ferry to Comox, BC, sunshine Day 13 we headed to Osoyoos. not so much. On day 9 we rode from Comox across Vancouver We met my brother again just east of Osoyoos on Day 14 and rode together to Radium Hot Springs, BC. Day 15 we left my brother and his wife in Radium and rode back to Calgary, AB. My speedometer cable broke just after we crossed into Alberta but my son says we did 3994kms.
