1 Gary & Susan Premech Hello Everyone; W ell we are sure that everyone has been taking advantage of the nice weather we have been having over the last while and hoping it continues until at least November. For those of us that attended Bob Van Nes s May long weekend ride, what started out as a rainy ride soon turned into a pleasant weekend enjoyed by all. It is official now that both Ron Myers and myself are certified as Trailering Course instructors. We were certified May 24th after teaching a class of nine members with various types of trailers. The following weekend Kim Coubrough and Fred Rea taught an ARC with 11 members and an ARC 2-UP with 7 pairs of riders. We had our third course June 5 th and 6 th with a number of trike riders taking the Trike Course taught by Terry Burrill. That same weekend Tracy Boyda and Stu Hartt taught an MFA course in Lethbridge. At the end of this week a large contingent of our membership will be leaving for the Reno Rendezvous. Whether you re riding in a group, by yourselves, camping, or staying in hotels/motels; everyone please ride safe and enjoy the event and we would like to have your comments at the July meeting. For those of you that have been thinking of attending the Region J Rally August 1 st - 3 rd in Cranbrook, BC and have not yet registered, please register as soon as possible. The committee organizing this event will need to know how many members will be attending. The information can be found on the following link. Ride safe!!!! 2 Wing Wag June 2015 Page 2 Brian Hooker talked about the recent loss of his friend on the 1A highway near Canmore. Congratulations to Stu and Marie Ellen Hartt Chapter AB-A Couple of the Year for 2015 Brian wanted to share with the members the benefits of belonging to the Calgary Cooperative Memorial Society and how his friend s membership eased a difficult time for his family and friends. See the ad Brian has paid for at the top of Page 7 in this edition of Wing Wag. We recognize Brian s sadness at the loss of a friend and fellow rider and thank him for sharing. Shirley O Brien won a 2015 Honda Calendar as a door prize. Congratulations. May 50/50 Winner Dan Lemke
3 Wing Wag June 2015 Page 3 Con Williams, Region J Director T he riding season is finally in full swing all over Region J. I know here on the coast of BC we ride all year, but the rest of our Region definitely gets four full seasons. So, hooray! This coming month we are going to see even more motorcycles on the road as it is holiday season. Please! Be careful and use appropriate caution while riding now. It is especially challenging when all those "Cage Jockeys" are thinking about happy hour, beaches, and parties! This month we have a huge party for "Gold Wingers" at the Reno Rendezvous. There are now more activities and more vendors. This event is shaping up to be a blast. on August 1, 2, and 3. There will be a lot of education seminars, an MFA course and an ARC course. There will even be a bike show contest if we get enough interest. The poker run encompasses the two best motorcycle roads in BC, and it is all in Canada so you don t need a passport. The band performing at the banquet will be playing half country, half old time rock. Chapter BC-D is having their annual Gold Run Rally on September 5, 6, and 7 in Clinton, BC. This is one of the original places the Gold Run was held. The whole town is getting ready and wants to make sure we all have a great time! There is a cool poker run on all new fresh roads so everyone will be pleased. You can register on-line on the BC- D webpage. While I know we are going to have a great time in Reno, please remember that we have a Region J Rally coming up in Cranbrook, BC I know everybody is ready to ride now! Remember be safe and keep the shiny side up! Morris, an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm. A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, You're really doing great, aren't you? Morris replied, Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.' The doctor said, I didn't say that.. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur; be careful.'
4 Wing Wag June 2015 Page 4 Greeting Cards: If you know of any member, their spouse, or immediate family who would appreciate receiving a greeting card from our Chapter please contact Judy Istvan, address nucleus.com. Judy will arrange to send the appropriate card on behalf of the Calgary Chapter. Veterans Food Bank: Please remember the men and women who committed themselves to ensure the freedoms that all Canadians enjoy every day of our lives. Bring your non-perishable food items or monetary contributions to the Monthly Chapter Meetings and help support the Veteran's Food Bank. Thank you to all who choose to support this worthwhile cause. Used Hemet Donations: Jim Baker is collecting helmets to be sent to Chad, Africa. If you have any helmets that you are no longer using please consider donating these to help protect a person in another country where helmets are not only too expensive for some to buy, but difficult to find. Reno Rendezvous: June Check out the website (renorendezvous.org) to book your accommodations and register for the event. We hope to have a large contingent from the Calgary Chapter Montana Idaho Triangle Ride: Depart Friday, August 14 at 9 a.m. from Petro-Can/A&W at Aldersyde (Hwy 2 & 7) - packed lunch recommended. Return Monday, August 17 at 4 p.m. Book your own accommodation from available list. Please let me know gordstevenson.com) if you plan to go or just want to receive updates. If you include your cell number it will be included in a contact list for the ride. Medic First Aid Course: Interest exceeded our ideal class size and as a result some of you were unable to be included in the most recent session. We will be having another class later in the year, September/October timeframe. Anyone interested can let me know at telus.net Do you know...where this is?: If you have distinctive pictures of places you have visited on your Gold Wing motorcycle or trike we would like to share them with our readers. Submit your picture as an attachment with the specific name and location in the body of the to telus.net. Then watch for your picture to appear in future editions of Wing Wag. Details of the picture and its location will be in the following month s edition. MEETING SCHEDULE DAY/DATE June 8...
