3 We are getting the itch to go for a ride It happens every spring, one warm day and you get the itch to get back on the Wing. The temperature is supposed to hit mid-forties today with lots of sun and no rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be even better with a possible temperature of 55 with some rain but at least it will wash some salt away. Now is the time to get everything ready for the season. I called the closest Honda dealer which is JAF in my case and asked Charlie if he had his inspection stickers. His stickers came late last year but Charlie is ready to go this year and I told him I would be down as soon as some of the salt and sand washed off the road (hopefully tomorrow). Also if you are interested he has a 40 th anniversary Wing in the showroom. My next project is to tackle the installation of the power plate I had planned to install during the winter months. As you know it was just too cold to spend any time out in the garage even with the heater going until now. On occasion during the winter I studied the installation instructions for the power plate and mentally went through the steps so that there would be no hiccups when I started. Now we will see if it were all for naught. Following the power plate which we are adding to make connecting our heated jacket liners easier, I am going to add an accessory switch for my front rotor lights. Yes I said heated jacket liners. It seems that things like a heated seat, heated grips and heated jacket liners are becoming necessities and not luxuries as we get a bit older. The rotor lights are sharp looking at night but no sense running them during the day. I should have added the switch when I installed the lights but it was easier during riding season just to plug them into the accessory connection under the left pocket on the Last but not least is the installation of the hyper lights, stop and directional, that I picked up at Sportline s Honda night. Anything that keeps the four wheelers paying attention as they approach your six is well worth the investment. Their installation, however, is somewhat more complicated than my other two projects since it will require removing the trunk rack and trunk lid liner. But I guess what the heck it s not quite warm enough to take an extended ride so I guess I can afford the time to get everything ready to roll. One last thought I need to grease my drive line and then I am ready to go. After all this is done I am really ready to ride. What did you notice in preceding paragraphs? Not one safety item was being checked, albeit one could argue the addition of the hyper lights is a safety item. Nothing about tire pressure, tire condition, fluids, working lights etc. Don t forget more important than lights, switches and gadgets is your T-Clock check. Yes we all want our bikes to shine and look nice going down the road but more importantly we need to make sure we can do so

4 safely.

5 April /12 GWRRA Rider Education Rider Educators Bob and Kelley Spring is officially here, and just like last year as I sit down to write this newsletter there is fresh snow on the ground. That being said we are still going forward with plans for an April 18 th training session at the Wilton Fire House followed by an ARC class the following weekend of April 25 th & 26 th. The April 18 th training session will include Co-Rider and Road Capain seminars. The Co- Rider seminar will count towards the levels program riding course for Co-Riders but the Road Captain seminar will not count towards a riding course for Riders. The Road Captain seminar does include a riding portion so we hope the weather cooperates. Participants must bring their motorcycle/trikes, riding gear and be prepared to conduct a T_CLOCS checklist and go for a one hour ride. Following the training we will go to lunch at Scotty s Restaurant at exit 16 or another location selected by the group.

6 The ARC Class scheduled for April 25 th /26 th has two openings. Please or call us right away if you are interested in participating in this class. See the attached flyer for signup information. As a reminder the ARC Class if for two wheelers, the equivalent course for Trikes is the TRC Class. Assuming the weather does warm up, and eventually is has to, please be careful when you take that first Spring Ride. There has been a record crop of Pot Holes and Frost Heaves this year. It will take several weeks or even months for the highway crews to get the roads into decent shape. Sand on the roadway will significantly reduce your available traction, particularly in those tight turns. Please start out with moderation in mind. The four wheelers have had the roads to themselves for many months now. They may not be expecting to see motorcycles and trikes on the road yet. Be very alert in traffic and certainly don t expect to be granted the right of way, even if it may be legally yours. And most of all: Don t forget - Dress for the Slide not the Ride.
