2 EMOTIONAL MODULES The customer s feel for a car is strongly conveyed through its hang-on parts the doors and closures. They govern the handling of the non-moving and much of the NVH of the moving car, they are largely responsible for the outer design, they accommodate in an extremely confined space a multitude of highly customer-relevant functionalities. Plus, less customer-relevant, but highly important: They can very significantly contribute to an efficient lightweight vehicle design. To help advancing the construction and series production of automobile hang-on parts therefore is the goal of the annual Automotive Circle conference Doors and Closures in Car Body Engineering in Bad Nauheim. Featuring nine door, hood and tailgate hardware presentations from leading international OEM, reporting on very recent series developments, as well as latest development results from important system suppliers, the conference again gathers its global network and audience of automotive experts in Bad Nauheim on 15 and 16 November 2016 an audience that very actively takes part in the conference proceedings, through evaluation and benchmarking activities. 8 TECHNOLOGY BRIEFING MODERN LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN DOOR CONCEPTS IN ENGLISH 14 NOVEMBER H H Dr. Axel Förderreuther, Novelis Deutschland GmbH, DE Innovative automotive door concepts currently are much under discussion and significantly contribute to an efficient lightweight design in today s vehicle engineering. This concerns both new material concepts and often closely interrelated innovative door construction. In addition, unconventional ingress/egress systems have recently experienced closer attention, e.g. rear-hinged back doors, B-pillar integration, gull-wing doors or sliding doors, enhancing the viable options for modern door concepts. Which concepts best lend themselves for different material concepts and why? How do different concepts compare in terms of technological and economic performance; what are their pros and cons; which concepts can be applied in which vehicle segments? Using current examples, Dr. Axel Förderreuther analyses and discusses these questions in our Technology Briefing and also prepares you, in this way, for the presentations of newest developments in the main conference. 9 SPEAKER: Dr. Axel Förderreuther studied Physical Metallurgy in Stuttgart and Oxford/UK and received his Doctorate at the Max-Planck-Institute for Metal Research. He started his professional career in 2000 as a development engineer with Alcoa Automotive, where he mainly conducted aluminium car body projects, among others for Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Renault and Volvo to 2015, he was Lead Engineer Lightweight Design and New Materials at the engineering service provider RLE Mobility, where he was responsible for both technical and economic aspects of OEM car body and lightweight design development projects. In May 2015, he joined aluminium producer Novelis as Senior Manager, Global Automotive Technology Strategy. Dr. Axel Förderreuther s particular expertise is in all aspects of lightweight car body design and the practical application of new materials, such as light metals and fibre-reinforced composites. In his work, door projects very often have been at the focus of his attention. CANCELLATIONS Fees will be refunded in full if notice of cancellation is received by 17 October % of the conference fees will be refunded in case notifi cation of cancellation is received later, but not later than 31 October Delegates who fail to attend without notifying the organiser will be liable for the whole conference fees. Substitutions of delegates may be made at any time. Cancellations and changes should be notified in writing. In all cases date of postmark shall apply.
