Current concepts and process innovations concerning all joining technologies that are of relevance in the body shop are therefore highlighted in the three-day Automotive Circle International conference on Joining in Car Body Engineering, which, from 24 to 26 March 2015, again gathers its international network of car body engineers to discuss and evaluate newest progress in joining technology and corresponding considerations. The attraction of magnetic pulse technology lies in its ability to overcome existing limits: It allows to join vastly different material classes, with a zero-gap weld connection, without any filler material, enabling to create meters of weld seams in milliseconds. High- and ultrahigh strength panels may be formed or cut, without a punch tool, at the same velocity. However, magnetic pulse technology is currently not widely known in car body engineering yet, and there are only very few application examples although the technology has been put on the technology roadmaps of many companies. Our Technology Briefing on this topic will acquaint you with today s possibilities of magnetic pulse joining and related technologies and provide you with a profound update on the requirements, potential and limits of this technology.
