2 THE RIGHT JOINING TECHNOLOGY Material concepts in modern car body lightweight design are explicitly governed by the demand for the right material in the right place. Whatever solution is considered right, however, immediately raises the subsequent question: Do we have all the right joining technologies available, at all relevant production sites, for all required joining geometries, for all necessary material combinations, offering sufficient mechanical strength, excellent process reliability and cost efficiency? The three-day Automotive Circle conference Joining in Car Body Engineering 2016 is again dedicated to addressing exactly this question, discussing newest technological solutions presented by international OEM, trailblazing system suppliers and leading research institutions. Following its proven structure with two overlapping modules on Adhesive Bonding and Hybrid Bonding (Module 1) and Thermal and Mechanical Joining (Module 2), the conference once more sets out to assemble its global network of expert engineers to exchange their views and experiences and to benchmark the current state of the art in car body joining technologies.
