1 Information Note Expert Group Meeting on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals with Water-Food-Ecosystem Resilience in the Mid-Latitude Region (MLR) November 2016, Seoul, Republic of Korea The 2016 Expert Group Meeting The 2016 EGM will be convened on November 2016 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, organized by the United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) in collaboration with Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Korea, Korean Ministry of Environment and Korea University. This EGM will bring experts from the developing countries of the mid-latitude regions to better understand the interdependence of water-food-ecosystem in a scientific perspective by sharing respective knowledge, challenges and opportunities to achieve the SDGs in that specific region. It also aims to build a professional network between the participants to promote further study and active debate on cross-sectoral integration and the water-food-ecosystem resilience. Venue The EGM will take place in the multimedia room of the Hana Square at Korea University Science Campus, Seoul, Republic of Korea. More information on transportation to the venue is available below in this note (see the map here). In case further assistance is needed UNOSD and KU contacts are provided at the end of this note. Accommodation The Hotel President is providing rooms at special rates for the participants of EGM. The special room rate of bed and breakfast is at KRW 150,000 (incl. VAT) per night. To make a booking, please fill out the Hotel Reservation Form and send directly to hotel. Airport Transfer Note that UNOSD is not providing transfer from and to Incheon International Airport. 1

2 Transfer is easy and straightforward: By taxi: from the International taxi counter, 1 st (ground) floor, exit 4. It takes 1 hour, and costs about KRW 50,000 ( USD $45). Show the above Korean address to the driver. By Airport Limousine Bus: from the 1 st (ground) floor, Gate #11, take Bust #6701. It takes about 60 to 70 minutes. Get off at Lotte Hotel bus stop. Walk straight for 1 minute after getting off and you can see the entrance of President Hotel. Please start by pressing English, and follow the instructions. The fees can vary depending on the distance. Therefore, we recommend you to give your destination for the exact price. You will have to pay 500 won for a deposit. The deposit will be refunded from special vending machines (usually one per station, orange in the picture right). Electronic payment cards (T-money) can be purchased for about 2,500 won at most convenience stores (CU, GS25, Mini stop etc.). The card can be reloaded for any amount at the same vending machine. Please start by pressing English, and follow the instructions for charging the card. 3

4 Meals and Coffee Breaks Coffee break: Coffee breaks will be provided at the meeting venue. A coffee shop is available on the ground floor for light refreshments and hot/cold drinks. Dining and miscellaneous: Local and foreign cuisine in multiple restaurants and cafes are available in Hotel President. It s a 5 minute walk from the hotel to Gwanghwamun Gate, Changdeokgung Palace and Gyeongbokgung Palace. Dongdaemun Market, the Namsan Tower, Myeong-dong and Cheonggyecheon Stream are also 5 minute walk from the hotel and Insadong Antique Street on 15 minute walk. Immigration Requirements Obtaining a visa is the responsibility of each participant. Please check the visa requirement for your nationality at the following site: Visa support letters can be issued by UNOSD upon request. In such case, please contact Ms. Shelley Choi as soon as possible. Health Travel Insurance All participants are strongly encouraged to buy health travel insurance before travelling. Emergency and hospital claims would not be covered by UNOSD or the public Korean health system would any emergency occur. Please contact your usual insurance provider or travel agency. Local Information Language: while airport and major hotel staff know English, this is not common in Korea, even among taxi drivers or restaurant workers with the exception of downtown Seoul tourist areas. 5 Cash Advance Service: You can withdraw cash from the many ATMs, very common in Korea, for a reasonable fee. Click on Foreign card or English (Often at the bottom right-hand side of the screen) and insert your card to proceed. Debit and Credit Cards: American Express, Diners Club, Master Card, and Visa are widely accepted at stores and restaurants in Korean cities. Weather: November temperatures in Seoul range between a low of -1 C and a high of 10 C. Internet: Wi-fi internet access will be available throughout the hotel for free. Free wi-fi is also common in many cafés and at Korean airports.
